Update - the latest update to macOS Catalina (10.15.2) contains a fix so that this monitor will now work with a MacBook Pro at 5120x1440. I've been using this monitor for a couple of months in dual monitor mode (2 side by side monitors) with my Mac and I highly recommend it, especially as it now runs the full resolution.

Did you have to use the scaled setting ? If I put it at default, it is zoomed in totally and on scaled, I feel it’s blurred and fonts are not smooth.

@@PEqualsN.P I have it on scaled with the 'More Space' setting. The display is not at all blurry. If you Option+click on the scaled settings, you get a list of resolutions, with the topmost being 5120x1440 - which is the native resolution of the monitor.

I just bought one of these monitors and I can confirm that both my 2019 16 inch MacBook Pro Intel graphics and my MacBook Air M1 8gb both run this monitor at native resolution with no problem. Both are running Mac OS Big Sur.

FWIW I believe this was specifically addressed with Big Sur, if you can't get the native res, upgrading will resolve this.

Works absolutely fine here at full native resolution with a 2016 15" MacBook Pro Touch Bar. You might have to upgrade the firmware on your monitor. It did that for me when I installed LGs Onscreen control for Mac.

I am using this monitor with a fairly new MacBook Pro (2019), and was able to drive the display at 5120 x 1440 over USB-C without any issues.

Some docking stations & graphics cards of some machines may not recognize Dual QHD (5120 x 1440) as a valid monitor resolution. My DELL x Windows machine doesn't offer this resolution, but I am able to run it as 2 virtual monitors arranged side-by-side via HDMI and/or DisplayPort). I also frequently run it "split" with the Mac on one side, and a PC on the other (PIP), or with one machine on one side, and an HDMI Roku on the other. If you are running PIP/Dual-Input Split Display, you need to specify which source gets the display's speakers. (No option to have one machine on left-speaker, and one on the right). So far, fairly happy with it. Only nagging issues: (1) No remote to flip inputs (have to keep reaching to the back to switch input-modes); (2) When switching from half-screen to full, I need to pull up my Mac Display settings to "remind" it of my preferred resolution & display re-arrangement.

My LG 49WL95C works perfect at 5120x1440 / 60Hz resolution on my new iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2019). I have it connected from the monitor's USB-C port to the iMac's 2nd Thunderbolt 3 port. I'm a filmmaker and have the iMac wall-mounted just above the LG 49" beast, serving as my "preview monitor" and extra screen real estate when not in Premiere, etc. It's a whole new world to experience as a creator. Love it.

Excuse the disturbance but I really hope that you answer these questions of mine because I am super willing to buy one of these two LG 49WL95C or Samsung C49RG90 for ps4 and xbox one x monitors. I also own an imac 27 monitor and hope to connect it. LG re-releases this model every few yrs. It originally had suffix "-W" in 2019, then "-WE" in Jan 2021, now "-WY" in Feb 2022. The -WE is currently selling for $900 on Amazon. The -WY is currently $1k. Those might just be special 2022 Christmas season prices because MSRP still says $1500 LG says it's the exact same model regardless of suffix and they only updated the suffix for tracking model yrs.

Hi, I have just bought this monitor and it looks to support the 5120 x 1440 resolution when plugged into my M1 Max MPB. I have about 15 - 20 dead pixels but when you consider how many there are it's still fantastic for me and I barely notice them. I work primarily in Adobe PS, InDesign and Illustrator and I love it so far!!

The problems you describe are not unique to the 49" display, they are the Mac. You returned it for nothing.

I have the 2018 Macbook Air and can confirm the issue with 1080p resolution. I have to use the PBP mode with a USB-C and DP cable to get 2x 2560x1440 displays. I have updated the OnScreen controller and the monitor's firmware but still no luck. I am going to purchase one of the Razer Core eGPU Chassis and throw a spare 1080ti in it to see if that will fix the issue. On some of the forums that I have read the MBA with Bootcamp and W10 installed will display at the correct resolution. I have also experienced blackouts and issues with the USB-C port not charging my MBA. I am outside of my Amazon return window or I would return. Really hoping this issue gets fixed.

I didn’t return it. I actually just ordered a eGPU chassis. Waiting on it to come in now. The monitor works great on my PC and also when I run it on Bootcamp. I am hoping an update fixes this.

Hello, can you please explain how can I use the same wacom tablet + keyboard with 2 computers? I have a Windows desktop and a Macbook Pro. I connected both peripherals directly on the back of the monitor, but only the Macbook pro recognize the keyboard and Wacom tablet. What am I doing wrong? I used the USB-C port to connect the Mac and the HDMI port to connect the PC Desktop to the monitor. Shouldn't it be working? Do I need to download/install any software from LG to make it work? thank you

VERY interesting - especially the part about using it with a macbook pro... I have a late 2016 touchbar MBP (with AMD Radeon Pro 460 4GB VRAM GPU and Intel HD Graphics 530 1536 MB VRAM) - do you think that this monitor would work well/look good with my MBP? Would mostly like to use it for Final Cut video editing (and some 3D rendering in it via mO2 plugin) and also Affinity Photo photo editing. But maybe this screen would not be the best fit for my MBP? **If it wouldn't, then maybe you can suggest another wide monitor that would be best for my use and MBP? Maybe not a 49" (if that's too big)?

I can't setup my 5120x1440p resolution on mac mini 2018 ( The higher i can get is 3840x1080 and it's terrible! However, i've installed Windows 10 using boot camp on same mac mini and Windows gives me 5120x1440p from the start!! How it's possible and how to setup 5120x1440p on MAC OS - any ideas?

The highest resolution you can get from this monitor on your Mac purely depends on the compatibility of the Mac & cables & settings. 5120*1440 @60Hz actually requires a lower bandwidth than 4K @60Hz, so the hardware should support it without problems. If all the cables (e.g. HDMI 2.0, DisplayPort 1.2+) are compatible, then try the app Display Menu (from Mac App Store), it should be able to show you all the available resolution & ratio options which you won't find in System Preference->Display.

I would actually like to use this with my 27” iMac. I m buying that IKEA 74” countertop so it would prob fit both fine. I was planning to actually have 2 27” LG monitors with the iMac. This would make it cleaner with just 2 monitors Does that make me selfish? Lol I m used to an iMac and a second 27” monitor. I don’t understand why companies and reviewers call these monitors 5K. They are not. Total pixel count determines the resolution and classification. 5K has a total pixel count is about 14,741,134.

I miss the white they used to use for there oled TVs so this was nice to see just makes the whole TV look amazing but this seems pretty good but then again its image quality just cant match others that arent wrgb because it's impossible to get a true 4k image in an led wrgb panel and to top it off it's not 5k sry but it's a no go for me I would rather get the qled gaming monitor explain how can 5120x1440p isnt 5k buddy just saying lg does have one that is 5120x2160 that's pretty much 5k I get that it's an ultra wide but that truely means it cant be 5k anyways

Looks like no cable will help yout to get the full resolution. As medtioned in the video you can only get the full resolution on a iMac or a Mac Pro.
