Worth noting that as the OP mentioned the soundbar to be connected via optical where Dolby Atmos won't be available, something that I've found to add that extra depth in some scenes (games and films alike), LG DSP9YA+Xbox Series+Philips OLED806 user here.

You seem like intelligent guy why does lg call this sound bar 5.1.2 when I know middle number is sub woofer the final 2 number is with rear speakers which u buy seppretly I was gonna get this but sound doesn't seem the best few people mentioned not the best plus I don't like false advertising

Hows the soundstage? I currently have a samsung s60b soundbar, and I feel like the sound is coming directly from the soundbar rather than a bit more of a surround experience. How does this do?

What setting will give you true surround sound? I have the surround speakers but they don’t sound like they are playing in stereo. Any suggestions?

have you noticed any lag if you connect your laptop to a projector or TV via HDMI but connect to the soundbar via BT? I am getting lag with BT on another model and want to know if that works.

I've noticed with this soundbar when viewing Dolby atmos/4k Dolby Vision content using eARC from my Sony A8H the audio will cut out every 15-20 mins.

I used to have that issue rather frequently tho resolved for the most after the latest TV firmware upgrade, worth checking out if not done so already. HDMI2.1 chipsets/standard has turned out quite the mess.

Recently picked this one up. When watching an Atmos movie on Disney Plus, I noticed that the soundbar displayed ‘Dolby Atmos’. However when watching a 4K disc (with Dolby Atmos selected on the disc), nothing is displayed. Should the display change? How do I know for sure that I’m getting Atmos?

You may want to check if there's a audio passthrough option available within your Blu-Ray player. Make sure as well to use HDMI for audio transport instead of optical as that will not support the bandwidth required for Dolby Atmos.

to add, HDMI arc, plays Dolby Atmos but more compressed. HDMI eArc is what plays Dolby Atmos fully

Just 4k 60fps, I couldn't get 120fps VRR through the passthrough.

Btw did you notice an improvement sound quality wise compared to last years model the sn9yd? Spec wise both seem to be identical however last years model is a lot cheaper

It's quite similar between model versions audio wise. Just the extra supported options are nice, and passthrough options. That aside, I recall this one being ever so slightly smaller size wise while getting slightly more out of it. Soundbars don't typically get massive leaps in tech specs.

Hi mate thx for the review. I'm looking into buying this model over here in Germany. Were you able to plug in the series x directly into the soundbar? Does it have real 2.1 pass through features (ie vrr 4k120 hdr allm)? Cause I was reading in a review of this soundbar that it doesn't support all of the 2.1 gaming features. Thx in advance already)

I couldn't get 120fps VRR through the passthrough when connected to the Xbox Series X. Unless there's a work around I'm not aware of.

@@suaverp2170 Series X conects to the hdmi 2.1 port on your TV then you connect the soundbar to the ARC/eARC port on the TV with a 2.1 cable. The best way to know if it is a 2.1 hdmi cable(the series x cable is a 2.1) is to check the packaging of the cable you purchase, it should be 48Gbps.

Based on this video's evaluation, I purchased the SP9YA LG Sound Bar. While the sound was good, I found that a person's speech lagged to their lip movement on the screen, otherwise known as "Latency". When a person spoke slowly, it wasn't too noticeable, but when a person spoke more quickly, there was a definite lag on the words coming across the speaker versus the movement of their lips. They were not in sync. Since, I found this out, through research, I have found this LG Sound Bar has a "Positive Latency Value" which indicates that the visuals come before the sound. This was using the eArc (Enchanced - Audio Return Channel) connection on a LG Oled 65" G1 series tv. When the results are more (or less) than -55 ms to 75 ms, you start to experience noticeable latency. The SP9YA Latency using ARC is measured at 82ms which is slightly outside the tolerable measurements for lip-syncing. That said, some apps and some TVs compensate for latency differently, so your experience may vary. Hope this helps.
