Great video. You were spot on. Our washer and dryer are 12 years old. Washer was grinding and wouldn’t drain. We were about to go purchase a new set but I wanted to try replacing the drain motor first. Thanks for the Amazon link, as well. I spent $20 and the washer runs like it’s brand new. Thanks so much!

Really good job with this. I'm about to do this for the third time in seven years. Sigh. It's been about four years since the last one died, so I've kind of forgotten the routine, and this was super helpful. I do remember the only really PITA thing is getting that spring back on when putting it all back together.

Yup 6 or 7 years sounds about right for drain pump replacement. I have a LG combo washer/dryer and have replaced it twice in 15 years. I strap my machine to a hand cart and tip it on its back. Most of the bottom is open so it's easy to access it.

He never showed how to replace the washer door gasket ring. That's the hardest step in this repair. LG makes a special pliers to widen the ring so you can snap it back on.
@ScottTheFixItGuyChannel4 жыл бұрын
Just lubricate it with liquid laundry soap and then stretch it over.
@scrunchymacscruff12444 жыл бұрын
It won't go into SPIN until the pump moves the water out, right? (I pulled the back cover and the disc thing, expecting to find scorched splines, them were ok..started it again on spin, and pinpointed the pump-motor's, muffled, plaintive cries. I still have to check the object filter and drain-hose for restrictions, also.)

I tried all lg recommended fixes and had the same issue with my LG front loader OE error code. This is the fix. MAKE SURE THE 3 AIRWAYS INTO THE TUB ARE NOT CLOGGED WITH YEARS OF USE. Specifically, I pulled the hose off between the tub and pump, looked at the inside of the far back connection of that hose, and the inside is white plastic tube about 1.5 inches in diameter and it had crud blocking the small air hole that connects to the hose to the water level pressure switch. Apparently, the Water Level Pressure Switch determines if water has been expelled. The crud was mostly lint and dirt. You can look up the white tube from the front of the washing machine, with the front panel removed, with a mirror and clean it out with some spray cleaner and a couple paper towels crammed into the 1.5 in diameter hole and twisting the towels around with needle nose pliers. Then use a paper clip straitened to clean out the small hole inside that tube. Get all the crud out. If you do this, you may as well clean the top center of the tub air inlet by taking out the black hose pulling out the mushroom looking device and cleaning it. Then to the left of that is a small black hose from the exit water hose. Pull that from the tub and clean that by using the straightened paper clip. Stick it in the little hole at lease 2 inches and wiggle it around to loosen up any crud buildup. There is nothing on the internet about this so, good luck.

Nice job Billy, There’s 2 pumps side by side. Make sure you replace the one to the left. That’s the drain pump. The one to the right is a circulation pump.
@bat197 Жыл бұрын
I'm a little confused why you're bothering with the top and front panel when all you need to do is tilt the washer back and remove 5 screws. Two in the filter area ad three holding the motor. I replaced the motor in 20 minutes more for the setup and tool choice. Putting that rubber wrap back on is a pain. Last time I replaced the rubber I had to make a tool to expand the spring.

Yep, Coming in from underneath is a great way to go. I’ve even done that with the dryer still stacked on top by moving it 4 feet away from the wall and leaning the washer and dryer both back together 👍

Put the 3 screws in with a screwdriver. A drill has too much torque to it and you might damage the pump. Also tighten the 3 screws evenly. Tightening 1 screw at a time with a drill is asking for trouble. Your hand using a screwdriver has the sensation needed to stop giving torque, where as a drill just keeps going.

I have the identical washer to the video, no errors or bad sounds. Mine is leaking out of the bottom and the water seems to be backed up inside the machine, I've drained probably 2 gallons out of it so far. If the drain pump stops working will it start to leak ? I noticed a small puddle the other day but didn't think anything of it. There was a much larger puddle today.
@dapar1006 жыл бұрын
it will start to smell and may damage the other pump and it sounds like it could be one of the rubber pipes is leaking to if its dripping inside the machine and i would take the pump of and replace it and clean all the pipes inside to and check to see if there any holes in them

I just did exact same procedure on wm2301hr and after replacing drain pump it was flooding with water when I tried to run a cycle. I checked and both the drain hose and main hose all hooked up not sure why it's leaking so bad

I wonder if the new Drsin motor didn’t get screwed down tight enough?
@kevinfrench20476 жыл бұрын
Just finished the pump exchange and found a different mounting system. Initially, I tried to get the final screw in the front out and found it to be buried behind the front frame. Long Sad Story Short, the whole assembly is mounted to a vibration plate with 3 bolts with 10mm heads. I used a 3" socket extension to remove the Right and Rear one, and a 6" Ext for the Left one. You can then pull this Assembly out and there are 2 sheet metal screws on the bottom holding the pump to the plate.
@lucianosmurf703711 ай бұрын
4 years later and you are a hero Sir. I was about to drill out that front to get to screw I saw since mine also isn't quite like the one in the video. I'm glad you mentioned the bolts as I saw one but didn't think much about it. Sadly this vibration plate and added complexity didn't fix these pumps going bad.
@dandenham31393 ай бұрын
On my machine there are two pumps, the washing pump and drain pump, which are both mounted on a vibration plate. I also found that I had to remove the three 10mm bolts on the vibration plate to remove the whole assembly. To get the two-pump assembly out, you also have to disconnect four hoses instead of just two and disconnect two electrical connectors on each pump. I didn't see a YT video with this pump combo. I just had to figure out that removing the three 10mm bolts was the key.

Great video for the instruction. My only advice would be to not buy the cheap pump on Amazon. I watched this video about a year ago and ordered the cheap Amazon pump. It's already dead so I'm off to a local appliance store to spend $50 on a genuine part.

What else would cause the OE error? I replaced the pump and it worked for 2 loads of wash and then went OE again. I made sure the drain hose was not clogged with anything. It almost seems like the pump is running and never stops and triggers the spin cycle but just keeps trying to pump out water that isn't there. The tub has no water in it but the clothes are soaking wet since there was no spin cycle. Any thoughts?

Sometimes coins lodge on top of the drain hose fitting inside the tub, remove heater element, and have a look inside the drum trough the element opening while shining a torch through the drum holes.
