This video is the real deal, saved me money and time with not needing to wait on an appliance guy. Warning, drain as much of the tub as possible as when you disconnect the hose to the pump you are going to have a gallon or so pour out. I emptied the tub completely and still had this problem. Culprit was a bobby pin.....

This video is 6 years old but our washing machine has lasted us a long time and I have almost this exact model. It just finally stopped pumping and I was able to use this video to extract and replace the pump. I found this video more useful than the other ones that exist because of how you filmed exactly what was going on. Thanks for the help! I was able to fix my washer using this video. I found three nails in the pump. **Only word of advice: even though I got all the water out of the tub - make sure you have another small bucket and a bunch of towels available when you remove the hoses from the pump. I had another gallon of water come out as soon as I popped off the hose pump.

Hey Jake, thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I had the OE error so I took a look at the pump. Interestingly, the pump was clear but when I removed the blue wire, the wire just came off of the connector. It was corroded where the wire attaches to the connector under a plastic hood. Rusted through. (My washer is 10 yrs old and the wire connector is different than yours) I soldered it back on replaced the plastic hood and sealed it with a dab of silicone. I also needed to put a little sealant on the hose connections to the pump. The factory had some kind of sealer there that was dried up and preventing a waterproof seal when I put them back on. All is well now. Thank you!

An added note for anyone unable to drain their washer all the way: Because the short hoses connecting to the pumps are soft, I was able to hand pump most of the water out of the system by squeezing the drain hose rapidly, like CPR. The little that remained in the system wasn't hard to clean off my floor.

THANKS BIG TIME !!! I didn't know what I was going to do. When my 3 year old LG top loader stop in the middle of a wash cycle, left me with an error code "OE" and a 1/2 tub of water. I got out the manual and realized the code had to do with draining. I am fairly handy but I've never worked on a washing machine and I had a feeling this was a major deal. Regardless, I figured the first thing I had to do was get the water out of the tub. One thing I'd like to mention is that my washer is located right next to the door into my house 2 steps up from the garage. I put a 5 gallon bucket on the garage floor, took the drain tube out of the wall, I put the palm of my hand over the end of the tube as I lowered it into the bucket and the machine started to drain. As the bucket got close to filling I put my hand back over the tube end and put the drain hose back in the wall while I dumped the bucket. I repeated this process 3 more times and the all but about a cup of water had drained from the machine. I found your video and thought I'd try to make the repair and amazingly I found a 3 inch aluminum removable nose bridge from a COVID MASK that I had neglected to take out when I washed the mask stuck and wedged in the pump. I pulled it out and the impeller free so I reconnected everything and put the clothes back in and started a new wash cycle and the machine worked perfectly. Something I'd like to add is from the manual I learned about the "tub clean" feature that LG recommends everyone does once a month. It is a simple and easy cycle to run. Heck, I didn't know about this and I felt this was probably the reason for the drain issue but actually the pump and the hoses looked really clean. I am amazed the nose bridge piece made it out of the tub. Thanks again for your great video jakeguitar01.

Very helpful video. Thanks! I could not see an obstruction in mine, so I had to take the pump apart. It was very easy - lift a plastic "clip" on the side of the pump and then turn it clockwise. Upon doing that, a sewing needle fell out. I put everything back together and was good to go. To drain the tub, I mostly dipped it out. I think what might have worked better and quicker would be to remove the plastic piece that holds the hose as it leaves the washer, then just lower the drain end of the drain hose into a bucket (or whatever). It can be raised again to stop the flow. I did this to get the last of the water out of the tub/pump. There was quite a lot of water remaining after dipping it out.

Thanks so much for your video, especially since you talked a little faster and more directly to the problem than some videos people post. I have the same machine and I bought the dryer that matches. They never gave me a problem until they were a few years old. My problem was a little more difficult due to the fact I didn't measure the width of my laundry room when I purchased the washer and dryer so therefore I had to arrange them in my laundry room a certain way. There was no easy way to remove the washer in order to get the back off. I had to remove the exhaust to my dryer and move it over and then pull out the washer to work on it. Anyway I kept getting the same OE code and once before I had cleaned the drain pipe thinking I had fixed the problem. It worked for about 3 washer loads and then the OE code pops up again. Your video is exactly what I needed to view because our machines are identical. I will now go a little further and remove the back of my machine to get to the pump itself and hopefully have my problem solved. Thanks again!

Thanks for making the video, which gave me the confidence to do this fix (there was a sock in the pump). Thanks also to the commenters for the tip on using a shop vac first to suck the remaining water out of the tub and then to suck the water up when you detach the hose (from the tub) to the pump. Using the vacuum there was very little water on the floor. Like other commenters, the pump on my particular model was different than the video, and was held down with screws, not bolts. Still it was in the same location with the same hose positions. I did not have to detach the pump from the machine to pull the hose off and take out the sock. If your machine is sitting in a drain pan, be sure to search for the videos that show how to use PVC pipe to easily and safely lift the machine out of the pan to where you can work on it. About 35 years ago I had a washer that regularly sucked little socks into the pump. I got really good at extracting them. I can't believe 35 years later they have not solved this problem!

Great video and insight. I did not have to remove the pump BUT even though the tub was empty of water there was a lot still in the bottom area below the tub and in the lines. So soak up towels are a must especially if your in a condo like me. A small screw was logged in the pump and I was able to get it without removing the pump. Thanks again.

Accessed the pump, an ankle sock found its way through and was blocking the pump. Removed and it worked. Note : The washer when reloading with wet clothes, it senses ALOT of water is needed , way more than necessary . If reloading wet clothes, be sure to use about 1/4 of the original load or it will be a nail biter watching the water fill to the top .

Edit: Turns out our Samsung set up was almost exactly the same, right down to the flexible plastic cover. Same blue and white connectors in exactly the same spot. Got it all apart and initially I was disappointed that there was no blockage nor did it appear anything was interfering with the pump. On closer inspection I was happy to see what I thought was a piece of wire. Turns out it was one of my daughter's earrings! It fell out easily and the pump spun as expected. Nice video thanks. I have a few things to add. As far as draining the machine is concerned, if you have a floor drain or door to the outside you can just place a small shop vac hose on the washers outlet pipe and when you lower the washers outlet pipe it will flow freely until the tub is almost empty, You can then just suck out the rest with the shop vac. Also my machine was a little different when the pump was supposed to run I could hear a motor running but nothing pumped out.I looked in the pump suction but the impeller was free and could easily spin, but I went ahead and bought a replacement pump. When the pump arrived I had to turn the washer on the side because instead of bolts holding the motor there were 2 screws that could only be reached from the bottom, this actually made the job easier and it took less than 15 minutes start to finish to remove and reinstall the pump. It worked perfectly. I was curious about what was wrong with the pump. I disassembled the pump and found that the impeller was spinning freely because the motor shaft had corroded and broke.

I wanted to take the time to thank you for this video tutorial. I have a very similar machine, model WT5680HWA, that starting throwing this error code tonight during a wash. I dove into the pump and found a small sock just before the pump inlet fitting. When the hose came off it was right there. It was difficult to get all the water out of the tub, so to those that will do this, expect to get some water (I got A LOT) when you pull the hoses, even if our tub is almost empty. I had plenty of towels ready just in case, and I'm glad I did. Again, thank you!

Thanks for the GREAT post. It put us back in action. The details with which tools to have on hand was awesome. I went through the motions and I removed the discharge line 1st and I could clearly see a blockage at 1st it looked like a wet wipe, or a fabric softener sheet. Cleared a Bobby pin from the pump without even removing it thanks to this video. Just pulled off the hose leading to the pump, felt around with my finger and used a magnet to remove the pin. Took me longer to drain the tub than anything else. Using the drain hose to siphon out the water worked well for me. Thanks so much for this video!!!

Thank you for that posting this. You sir, are a legend! :D. It gave me the confidence to take on my LG WT-H750. I did not see an error message as I generally ignore it's mid wash beeping. Would not drain. Buzzed. After water removed in tub, it still spun so I narrowed it down to a likely pump issue. Anyway, did the following. Unplugged from power and disconnected hoses. Then bucketed out the water from inside and then I chocked up the washing machine (bricks would do) so I could fit a deep baking tray under the pump area of the machine. I only part opened the pump filter so I was able to shut as I filled the baking tray. 7 trays worth emptied (about 28L). Then fully removed and filter checked. No obstruction. I removed the water removal hose to check for any obstructions there too - none found. Removed the back off the washing machine using philips head screwdriver. The pump is different to yours but same principle. Took photos of pump and wiring. Removed 2 x wires from pump. Removed hose from pump (sat a tray under edge of washing machine and pump to catch any extra water) by squeezing clamp and moving then pulling hose off. Removed screws x3 from outlet of pump on outside of machine. Removed pump from machine. White casing does not seem to come off. Still, longer flat head screwdriver managed to facilitate removal of 3 screws (photo where screws sitting/orientation of pump magnet area to impeller area). Access to impeller area gained. Wiped clean inc washer. Removed lime green zip end that had been lost in the machine for 8 months but only caused issue 2 nights ago. Put everything back together. Machine now works perfectly again. My next step, prior to putting it back together if there was no obstruction found in the impeller, was to take the pump unit over to the local appliance guy and borrow his ohmmeter for a few mins to check if the pump electricals were stuffed as to whether or not to order a new pump. LG live chat had been utterly useless in even telling me how much water the second barrel would hold (1-2L = no, try 28). 45 mins to be told of the pump filter location and then told to get a technician. Utterly useless. I watched your video during the inordinate waiting times I was experiencing with these useless sods. So, thank you from Australia. This gave me the confidence to take on the machine. Otherwise would have cost me about $100 call out fee and then labour and, if they were not thorough then I would have been up for about $90 more on a new pump.

Had same issue...removed the incoming line hose on the pump...nothing...prop moved freely...checked outgoing...nothing..reassembled and ran just fine...for now. I think I will still have repair guy check it out. At least I can get a load or two done in the meantime. Thanks for the video.

Thank you, this helped me clear the drain pump of a piece of metal. Although I did learn a lesson that even though the tub looks empty, that hose and tub will still contain 3 to 5 gallons of water.

+crossmenjeff ---> YES! There is definitely still water in the tub that you cannot see. Also, the hose contains a decent amount of water, so if u disconnect it, water will be on your floor.

Great video. Thanks. When I first encountered the code I sucked the water out through the discharge hose with a shop vac and thought all was good (man, there was a lot of water in there - very deceptive). So, I started another cycle and the code returned. I then knew it was either jammed or a bad pump. So, I turned to youtube and found this very helpful video. I'm glad I did because I was going in for the kill and this video provided some insight. The culprit - a small lock key in the pump. Here's what's funny. When I checked my key ring, I noticed a key was missing; it's one of those keys that attached to some cheap plastic and it broke off - now I know it broke off in my pocket. I thought I lost it in the yard somewhere as I was doing some landscaping. I was like damn, I lost the key. I was the last one to wash (my work clothes) and all was good until my daughter starting washing her clothes, so I assumed she left something in her pockets. Well, I was to blame, but not intentionally though - haha! All is good now and no money spent.

I am glad I stumbled upon your video. Did exactly what you said and low and behold I found three rice tends that I had in my pocket so none would run it over. They found their way down to the pump and it is running perfecto now. THANKS!

I probably say this every day. Get a cordless ratchet. It's very nice. Especially if the swing room isn't very big. This is a great video btw. I do the exact same thing. I open things up, use some deduction to figure out why it's not working as it should.

I followed along with your video and I was able to remove the pump motor out...... and low and behold, a small nail was in the same area that you found the paperclip. I reassembled everything and ran a "spin only" and it was so heavenly hearing that water drain out of my machine. Thank you, thank you, thank you :)

I just had the same issue with the washer machine the drain pump not turning on and getting the OE code. You might want to check the wires going to the pump and check each wire to make sure you are getting power to the pump. The issue that I had with mine is one of the wires that connects to the pump burnt up and I was not getting the required voltage to the pump. I replaced both wires and that solved the problem.
