I agree with the community is always on fire. I have been reading that its supposed to be "inclusive" ... Supposed to be is key word. Its like high school (expect most of us can legally drink and have degrees) except for much worse. Each letter is its on clique and within that are its own cliques, cabals, camps, conspiracies, plots, gossip, etc.

@@somethingclever8916 I definitely agree with this. I tend to be very individualistic, so I typically miss out on what some might call LGBTQIA+ cliques, and instead just get to know people for who they are instead of what sexuality or gender they might have. I just try to live out my best life and do what I love, and at the same time I really don't have access to the same resources as all of these people who cause so many issues. Like most of the people that I've met like that are so toxic/entitled and have been more of a burden on my life then someone I'd like to be around. I've been stocked and emotionally abused by people who couldn't just let me not be into them, like just because I'm gay, it doesn't mean that I'm automatically every gay person's soulmate. Then they push me to the curb as a friend and call me scum for not being with them. I hate the idea of being pushed into a corner like that because it's happened to me so many times before. I just don't get what there is to even argue about in the first place anyways. If something doesn't affect me, I stay out of it because it's none of my business, so why do others just not know how to do that? It might be because I came from a place where saying anything about that stuff wasn't tolerated, maybe there are other things that force me to focus on my actual life, it could be because I've been abused harsher for other reasons, and I could be just jaded, but I guess I just can't see why it's such a big deal what other people are doing. Let live and let live.

I was ranting to my dad (who’s over 60) about “transtrender” discourse. And he was like “what are all the trans ppl suppose to email each other? Of course ppl will come up with a lot of different names for how they feel. There weren’t names for these feelings before.” Yes every trans person is valid, every gender is valid, we can even make up a name for our own personal gender and feelings. There being a lot of different names for trans identity isn’t a trend it’s people trying to put their identity into words now that we’re finally learning a language to be able to express our sexual and gender identity when before we had to be all hush hush about it.

This is an old comment and I don't know if I'll get an answer but I was just curious. I have a few trans friends that do say they are ill and it came from unfortunate childhood trauma. I've also read a lot of the same thing in other LGBTQ places. I do think that people are trans without trauma but it also seems like a lot of it is because of it. In the end even if it is an illness it's still valid and honestly it's best to help those people be happy imo, I'm just curious as to I guess what each side has to say about this. I'm queer myself and I just want a better understanding, no bad intent and if it is taken that way then I apologize.

You have no idea how much I needed this video. Even though I am a lesbian, I know so little about the LGBTQ+ community. And transgender people especially. They are denied existence in my country (Poland). There is literally no information. And on top of that, the Polish language doesn't have gender-neutral pronoun 'they'. It's either masculine 'oni' or feminine 'one' and it only refers to a group of people. So due to our lacking language, there's no way to describe non-binary folks. I'm trying to educate myself in English, but I don't know where to look for legitimate information. And Tumblr tends to confuse me even more. Your video is filled with facts and logical arguments- exactly what I wanted. THANK YOU SO MUCH FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART!! william lieske One point was that in order to diagnose someone with dysphoria, it needs to be intense distress and disconnect. Let's say someone has zero or very little distress and disconnect because in their community, gender isn't something people are categorised by in social situations and the only place where our sex matters is when we go see a doctor. They won't get diagnosed because there's no intense distress and disconnect, but they still are the gender they are, right?

I felt like i needed to be certain way to be valid in my identity and it caused me more anxiety and stress then my initial gender dysphoria. When I came out my parents made a point of me not showing any signs of gender dysphoria before I was eight, which I actually agree with but through them accepting my dyshorias existence helped me except it myself.

This is the argument I always try to make, and sometimes I'm listened to, but rarely. I've always had to fight for my right to exist: because, while I have dysphoria, I'm Non-binary and genderfluid. This automatically makes me a "transtrender" in the eyes of some. Anyways, thanks for making this y'all, it was really good and covered all of the important arguments! Nice work.

Omg when you brought up PCOS it all clicked for me. A cisgender woman who has PCOS could possibly feel more distress over how her features or other aspects caused by her condition effect how she is perceived. But that doesn’t mean she’s in a male body and is in distress because she doesn’t have breasts or a vagina. Not everyone who is trans has to change their sex organs in order to be trans whether they have not done it or simply do not feel the desire to. One woman with above average testosterone levels could be perfectly happy in her body and identifying as a woman and another may not. Idk if I explained that right but it made so much sense when Eli brought it up.

As a non-binary former trans medicalist, the main reason I believed in it was because I wanted to be able to explain gender somehow. I am a person who hates not having all the answers, and gender being so weird and nondescript frustrated me. It still does. I wanted to have everyone in there little orderly boxes, and have everything make sense. But gender doesn’t make sense. So I grabbed onto the closest explanation that fit into what I already knew from my experiences as a non-binary person with a truckload of dysphoria. I still find it difficult to understand those who do not experience gender dysphoria, but I’m trying my best.

Like dude. Do YOu evEn KnOw Me, BAck OFf! I feel like in order to not be treated that way, I need to wear clothes all the time that maybe I don’t really feel like wearing that day, and I can’t act the way it’s natural to me because then I won’t be taken seriously. Not only is it not actually backed up, but it also can cause a lot of fear for people like me who do experience dysphoria. If we started demanding brain scans from people to determine if they were trans, then that would most certainly cause people like me intense stress and dysphoria if they got the "wrong" answer.

Question for the non-binary folks, why do you identify as non-binary? I ask because the people I've come across who identify as some non-binary gender typically cite their levels of femininity and masculinity and/or how they fit into gender roles as their reasoning for identifying as such, but that doesn't make sense to me because woman=/=feminine, man=/=masculine. Women can be masculine, feminine, both, neither, etc, and men can be feminine, masculine, both, neither, etc. Women and men should be able to do whatever they want to do in life and shouldn't be restricted to any set of roles. Yeah, there are stereotypes, but that's all they are, stereotypes, and we should just laugh at them and treat them as the stupid things they are. It seems to me that the reason most non-binary people identify the way they do is because they view the words "girl/woman (etc)" and "boy/man (etc)" as social labels and have rigid ideas about what it means to be in those social labels, as opposed to viewing the words as physical labels and simply not giving a crap about all the social nonsense.

But this video really cleared it up. I have PMDD, premenstrual dysphoric disorder. Key word: DYSPHORIC. People with a menstrual cycle experience mood swings with their periods, it's just part of having a period. PMDD is a mental illness where we feel severely depressed and anxious in the weeks before and during your menstrual cycle. Yes your period can make you depressed, but not to the point of feeling suicidal. Yes you can experience anxiety during your period, but it shouldn't be debilitating to the point of being unable to function. That's the difference between PMS and PMDD. And I feel like it's sort of similar with trand people. You don't have to be severely anxious and depressed about your assigned gender, it's just about knowing who you are.

As someone with gender dysphoria, I can confirm, to be trans, you do not have to have gender dysphoria. I have no desire to identify as trans nor change my biological gender. Gender dysphoria is just one's discomfort about one's own body accompanied by discomfort of one's own gender. I really appreciate this video

I'm pretty bloody late to this video, but hearing about how dysphoria isn't needed finally made me sure of my identity. I am a nonbinary person who very rarely experiences dysphoria. Due to my little amount of dysphoria, I felt invalid. For years, I had always suspected, but I never acted upon my hunches. That was mainly due to the whole dysphoria thing. So, all I can say is thank you.

Why are you and your friends the most Woke individuals I have ever seen? I learn so much from this channel. Also I laughed every time Eli called Hormones soup and I want to call them soup now as well. Just the levels of sass and intolerance for bullshit you two gave in this video is bordering on godlike. Thank you so much for teaching the peeps who don't yet know all this important stuff. It's so important to help people understand these things. I really appreciate it.

How did I not know any of that? You probably had to research of ages, its amazing. Thank you for sharing this whole thing with us, it changes basically everything and might even help questioning trans people (including me). Idk how to explain, anyway I already said it once and I'll say it again: Thank you

This was awesome, thank you!! The more I learn about LGBTQ+ issues the more I realize how complex and difficult to define gender and sexuality are. I've always felt uncomfortable when my trans friends criticize trans people without dysphoria, and the way they present. And now I understand that no matter what way trans people present or feel, they are still valid trans people.

i wish more cis people would educate themselves on trans people. it bothers me to hear uneducated people talk about trans people like they know soo much about them and the community and then say incorrect and offensive things right after that.

Alright, this video is actually really good. I have transmedicalist friends. They are really passionate about their beliefs that there are two genders and to be trans, you need to feel dysphoria. I don't know as of right now my identity, or if I will ever know. I would say I agreed on the thoughts of transmedicalists. I was worried, that people who do not have dysphoria take away resources from trans people that do experience dysphoria. But you two showed that it's not that simple, and I thank you for that. Basically this video kind of changed how i percieve the world and people. I was really sceptic at first and I'm glad I sticked around for the whole video. Transmedicalists, please watch the whole video from beginning to end. Gender might be much more than it seems. This also gave me space to rethink my gender again. I reverted back to being cis over and over, because I felt I would never be valid. Now I can allow myself to rethink it more. Thank you again. You're really wise individuals, both of you. 💕

Brain scans can't "prove" or "validate" trans-ness because there's not much of a difference between "male" and "female" brains! While studying neuroscience in undergrad one of my professors said that there are more differences between one random person to the next than between women's brains and men's brains. So most neuroscientists would rather study individual differences than gender differences. Also HATE the idea of male and female hormone levels changing the brain- first off male bodies have estrogen and female bodies have testosterone, secondly again there are so many individual differences in hormones that it can't be considered causal for any differences in the brain. Ugh people are dumb thanks for educating them

I wanted to come back to this video cuz i watched it while back and wanted to share it with ppl and i typed some of the keywords in my youtube history and youtube would not show it. I then typed it in youtube search and again youtube would not show. I then manually went through the vids on the channel to find it. Thanks KZbin

Btw a great video to watch in conjunction with this one is Transtrenders by Contrapoints. She makes points similar to these but with a bit of a different point of view and it is stunning

As a person with severe body dysmorphia (like to the point I think about it everytime I see another human being or myself, fun fun fun), nothing makes me more annoyed than people invalidating the real symptoms and gender dysphoria is SIGNIFICANTLY more awful. Bitch like if they're experiencing things or they feel something about their gender that feels like it doesn't align, then that's a sort of dysphoria. It's not you. You don't get to decide which symptoms are valid.

This is an extremely important video, and even if transphobic and people without an open mind don't care or listen, this video will help trans people and any one else who truly want to learn more about it and want to support the community, and those who are willing to at least listen. Thank you Eli and Nick, this is an amazing video.
