You have no idea how happy I am. I was six playing this game at school. When it went away, all I could remember was the weapons and the layout and the purple blue background with artic in the name. I finally found this! I'm so drunken stoned and happy d(:

I love the attention you pay to these early PC sidescrollers. PT and AA are pretty primitive even compared to some of their contemporaries, but they were enjoyable games. There's something cool about containing an entire level in one screen.

Apparently Nevada Smith dreams in CGA. That's kinda weird; I wonder if his subconscious ever upgraded to Tandy.

This game is much better than Pharaoh's Tomb. I mean not in terms of the hit detection obviously but in terms of the level design. I remember many hours spent dying on this one level because i couldn't make one jump and fell down a pit collecting many diamonds before I died. I actually went back and downloaded the freeware; it turns out you now get 4x the levels!

Great video!! :) You do know by now that there's a third game in the Nevada Smith series called "Monuments Of Mars", don't you? I'd love to see a review of that one, too! :)
@grassulo9 жыл бұрын
You should do a review of "Monuments of Mars" the third game with this sort of style, and it is just as evil as the rest of them, I had all 3 of them on a 1.2MB pirated floppy as a kid and enjoyed them a lot, even though they are frustrating and almost sadistic in how often your character will get killed. Monuments of Mars was my favorite though, cool looking enemies and levels, and logic puzzles, one of the best CGA games in my opinion along with Mach 3 by Loriciels.
@predcon19 жыл бұрын
+grassulo Yeah, odd that he covered these two and not MoM. I guess Mars was just too much of a 'Re-skin' game to be worth reviewing.
@grassulo9 жыл бұрын
it was a lot more fun, less evil, cooler looking and with a better puzzle element, It was the one of the three I enjoyed most as a kid, Pharoah's Tomb and Arctic Adventure were just too frustrating, Broussard got it right with Monuments of Mars.

This game was great - and quite hard to play as a child. I remember there was a level which you could replay over and over, and leave the level with a surplus of pick axes allowing you to crack all the ice blocks in the map screen. All you had to do was play that level as many times as the amount of ice blocks you needed broken. I guess they didn't think about that bit. Also, I think that was a snowball rolling toward you, not a stone. It's a magic snowball, because it doesn't require a gradient

This game overall isn't as evil as its predecessor - ammo is considerably more plentiful, you don't have to be stingy. No more lives, so you can die as many times as you wish... but on the other hand, there are more gameplay mechanics, including ice, which can make for harder puzzles.
