I had Fatality headset year back and it had similiar scratchy sound when adjusting volume. It didn't take too long for other side of headphone go completely silent, too. I think in total I used that headset maybe 5 months... haven't touched creative's headsets since. Shame because before fatality I used other creative headset which was like 20 e and lasted for years.

I remember buying these years ago, because I used to own the old Fatal1ty pair and remember really liking those, so my hopes were up for what seemed like a re-tooling and "improvement" over that old pair... and MAN I was disappointed. The sound was not as punchy, and felt just more lifeless. The headband was awful, and the comfort was NOWHERE near the same. On top of it, my headset came out of the box with a defect, the left speaker was broken and would buzz loudly on high volumes, infact stress testing it caused it to become completely broken. Creative Labs REALLY made a stinker with this pair. Mercifully, it seems like they knew that the best thing going forward was to just keep making what worked in the first place. They've since started re-selling the Fatal1ty, as the "SB Blaze" (I'm guessing the license deal to have Jonathan Wendel's branding must've expired). Apart from minor cosmetic changes, its still the same old headset. It was obvious Creative had hit it right back in the day, to still be selling a near 15-year old headset design even today! Meanwhile this Inferno is now dead in the water, you can't find it anywhere anymore!

Hey mate this is exactly the comment i was looking for. I also had a fatality back in the days as my very first gaming headset and the sound quality was really damn good for the 30 euros i paid. So you are saying the sb blaze is the fatality? in that case i sure as hell gonna pick one up. it has great bass, super underrated headset if you ask me

It does have all the problems you mentioned, but I still use it to this day, because when wearing glasses regular headsets get painful since they are too heavy and/or use hard leather instead the soft foam earphones this one does.

Sounds like the volume knob has a bad/dirty potentiometer and the interference noise sounds like a ground loop problem caused by the mike and earphones sharing the same ground connection through the cable.

Honestly, I'd recommend everyone just stay away from gaming headphones and go for music headphones, unless of course you NEED to have a built-in microphone. I've been using a pair of Audio-Technica's ATH-M30 headphones for the past 2-3 years, and I've been quite pleased with them. I believe that I got them for $35, but that's because I knew a guy who knew a guy at a Guitar Center and they got me a discount. If I remember correctly, the original price was about $60.They have very good sound quality, they go up to a very high volume, so much so that I can actually use them as speakers if what I plug them into goes to that volume without the audio quality deteriorating too much. On top of that, I've been told I have big ears and these fit comfortably over my ears with only my ear-lobes falling out, which feels pretty natural. Honestly, I'd recommend these over a pair of Turtle Beach headphones any day, or any music-based headphones, because they tend to be a lot cheaper with a higher attention to quality. I mean, they have to be, there's a lot more audiophiles in the music industry than the game industry.

That noise is a feedback loop created from bleed of the headphones going into the mic that's why it only happens when the volume is turned up.

lol, i got $7 head phone set from dollar general , perfect quality, perfect bass, treble, and mid-range, and the foam ear cushions feel great on my ears, the problems are, they have no microphone, there not noise canceling, they don't go around your ear, they just sit on them. but im happy, so whatever.

I do NOT trust built in cotnrols (inline). On any headset/headphones. They re always the first thing to go. Always. I don't care how great a pair might be, I don't buy it. As for this review, well, I can't say I am a Creative's fan any more (since my crackling crickling SB Live! Fatality card in 2005. Zero support from Creative, issues never resolved. They lost a long time customer. I am not surprised there are issues with this set. Thank you for the review.

That 4-band 3.5mm jack would be a great idea, since nowadays laptops tend to use the 4-pin headset plug ( 3.5mm female jack, which has both l/r audio and the mic in the same plug). At least all the ultrabooks I've seen use it. And of course - not a damn clue where to get the 4-band to 2x 2-band (the connector this thing has, but the other way around.

I had the Fatality for quite some time and then went to the Tactic3D alpha. The microphone pretty much sucks, but the headphones are decent. I'm now using a Logitech C615 webcam as my main mic for Skype etc. and the headphones by themselves. With my laptop built-in sound card there are te same issues with losing the bass by turning up the volume wheel, but I circumvent that by turning the wheel to low and the soundcard to max. The USB sound card that came with the headset is decent to say the least, but I only have four USB ports available of which one is constantly used for the mouse.

this is always my recommendation to friends when they ask me about headsets: just buy any sennheiser lol. im not an audiophile by any means, but i like good headsets that work well with music production, djing, gaming,etc...and senns are some of the best. ive had $80+ headsets sound worst than the cheapest $20 entry level sennheisers i got (HD 201S).theyre tanks and theyre staples in my gear, just like logitech is for my mouse/keyboard/pc speakers. plus even though i like headphones, i wouldnt spend that much on them lol
@ducciboi
@ducciboi 9 жыл бұрын
You're missing out on good headphones then since headsets tend to lack a sound stage and not having very great highs and lows. I also tend to hear Sennheisers lacking in bass.
@Alegzander1990
@Alegzander1990 9 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry but i dissagree with this part in particular : "just buy any sennheiser lol.ive had $80+ headsets sound worst than the cheapest $20 entry level sennheisers i got (HD 201S)" I got a pair of HD 201 as a backup headset, in case my Roccat Kave Solid 5.1 (real 5.1.there are 3 speakers in each earcup arranged at a 12 degree angle + a vibration unit-subwoofer) break or something, and i've got to say, the HD 201 sounds terrible...And they were 30 euros.While my roccat kaves were around 80 euros.While ppl say they don't sound good when playing music, i found they sound great in my case.I just turned on my bass management in the Realtek control panel.And if you have a dedicated soundcard, they would sound even better.Not to mention that for gaming puproses, the roccat kave solid 5.1 destroys those cheap hd 201.And i don't mean cheap in terms of pricing, but the headset itself feels cheap to me.Build quality is also much much better on the roccat kaves etc.The hd 201 feel like they could break at any time lol.There is however a thing that most people will consider.And that's weight.The kaves weigh just shy of 1kg.For a lot of people that's a problem.For me it isn't tho, they're fairly comfortable (or i got used to them) even in long gaming sessions (like 8 hours or more lol). Just my 2 cents.

i use audioteknika m50 i got stuck for the longest time in the gaming zone of headsets. But then i got one of these lovely headsets and i might be set for life. I will get the same one next time. And you can replace the ear pices. I had to replace 2 headsets before, both from logitech for the simple fact that the ear piece got worn down. I always manages to kill a set every 1,5 years. It got lovely bass both low and mid. The audio quality is all around great. But for true basse you will need a sound amp. But they are lovely if you simply plugg them in to your pc tho with a bit less low basse. The second best headset i own is logitech 930.

I have turtle beach X12s £45ish which are fantastic(particularly with the DSS2 which improves the sound quality 10 fold and adds surround sound), also have some N11s (should of been £30 but was £9.99) which works like a dream with my XB1 headset adapter, they are the lightest most comfortable headset i've ever tried. I have really taken with the turtle beach brand, i also have the M3s for on the go they have a surprisingly heavy bass but its way to heavy for most music... and some games. Despite what people say about the TBs build quality in my experice they offer mostly great sound and have a decent build quality providing you dont throw them around or sit on them, yes i know i sound like an ad for TB, just wanted to say to anyone looking for a sensibly priced gaming headset then TB are the way to go

Crap like this is why I got the Plantronics .Audio 355 Multimedia Headset, and for $13, when paired with a decent sound card that has a built in Headphone amp like my ASUS Xonar DG even with volume turned up I never loose bass(in fact the bass is so hard it can vibrate my ears). The only real complaints I have are the fact I had to stretch out the plastic headband as it can be a bit tight, and the cord I've had too patch with electrical tape because it's somewhat thin. Anyways good review on these, and glad I did not get them.

Ugh, I hate headphones that have volume dials like that. They are almost always scratchy, plus I had a set where it would randomly drop a stereo channel depending on the position of the dial! Most "over ear" headphones are really "on top of ear", I wish companies would change their ad copy to reflect that. Unless they are ear muff sized, they aren't going to fit completely around your ear!

Hm, Creative is weird. They've put out some terrible stuff where it really looks like you're paying for their badge more than anything, and who even cares about Creative these days. Speaking of paying for a badge, I'm currently using a Sennheiser PC 151, that's around the same price but actually sounds quite good (if you're okay with not having a subwoofer strapped to your head), build quality is fine as well. My only criticisms are that the volume wheel doesn't have a lot of range and the cables seem a bit thin.

Lazy Game Reviews You weren't have noticed that mic input noise on an ISA Soundblaster since the card's noisy input stage would mask it. That or you discovered a hidden SB16 emulation mode in your headset.;) Creative didn't put much effort into clean sound until the AWE64 came out.

Hey, great video and insight for these headsets, but I want to know something. What's a decent headset around the 60-80$ Pricemark? Decent sound,mic quality and all that jazz., I've been looking and I can't really seem to find one, so help would be appreciated!

My Gamecom 780 is a nice 7.1 surround sound headset, got mine for 60 euros at the time and since then they've come out with an improved commander headset. It's got a good noise canceling mic, large earcups, padded rather nicely too, although the cable shouldn't be allowed to get cold or the rubber casing will crack, harmless but not aesthetically pleasing. Oh yea, and it's 7.1 surround sound thanks to special Dolby drivers, just to hammer that point in there.

in my opinion the better solution is a condensator microphone with a desk stand, yo`ll get that for about 60€ @ thomann, just check for the sc440 you´ll get that pretty cheap and its better than any headset. now you just need good headphones, which you can also use to listen to music on the bus or something. you`ll get everything for about 100€ max and not even the best headset could have the same overall quality especially the microphone ;). if you already have good headphones then you would be set with just the t-bone sc440

Matt Barger My personal recommendation would be the Steelseries Siberia RAW Prism. They feel fantastic and I haven't had any of the quality issues. And in my everyday gaming/Skype use, I use their Siberia V2 headset.

You have a faulty headset there, sounds like a dodgy potentiometer. I'd return and get a replacement.

I totally thought it was a Needle Drop reference too and almost spit out my beer that my two favorite channels were suddenly (almost...) referenced within one. Fantano is the best (besides LGR...).

Review the Logitech g930. It's what I use, but it has some major issues that you should tell people, because this headset should be avoided.

Are you sure Creative sent these to you and not someone who bought these and thought they suck and it could be a cool idea to send them to you to review them, so you'll point the flaws?

Lazy Game Reviews So obviously Creatives official channels are sending headsets without a box accompanied with a handwritten blue post it asking for reviews. Makes u think... I thought the computer part buisness was triving.

Ahh yes. The fatality line. The mic is AWFUL on those, and the headset cables broke after about 6 months, I had to wiggle it about to get proper stereo sound.
