Before anyone asks, the shirt came from www.popuptee.com/ They sell unique designs for a limited-time only at a lower price point. Then the designs are often retired or sold at a higher price later. The Duke/Fallout one was from a couple months back.

I played the heck out of this game on my father's DX4 PC back in 1995-1996 and completed all the episodes and the difficulty levels! It has its charms, though it's difficult to explain now that I haven't played it in more than 20 years! Thanks LGR for making me feel nostalgic and miss the old DX4 (which eventually became mine in 1999). Keep up the good work!

I distinctly remember downloading the shareware version of this off of the one local BBS that was in my area as a kid. Such good times back then, a lot of the old Apogee games were the staples of my game collection back then. I would mow lawns in the neighborhood for a few dollars and my grandma would convert the cash into a check that I could mail in to the company and get the full retail versions in the mail. I miss those days...
@LGR10 жыл бұрын
Used to do very much the same :) Had a friend with a "fast" 9600 baud modem and no problem racking up long distance charges for BBS access. Got all sorts of Apogee and Epic Megagames shareware, would mow lawns and weed gardens for all the money I could to get full versions!

Oh. My. God. This is the 1st ever PC game I ever played when I was 9 in 1995 on my very first pc, handed down to me by a neighbourgh who decided he didn't need Windows 3.1 anymore and upgraded to Windows 95.... He just gave me the machine, and left me to figure out everything about this newfangled komputor I'd just acquired... including the screensaver password... which I did! I stumbled upon the files for the game, I don't exactly know how but... I guess it musta been saved somewhere in DOS or whatever... This HAS to be the 1st pc game I ever played, Solitaire and Minesweeper notwithstanding. I only had a passing memory of it and didn't remember what it was called... So many memories just came flooding back... I'd almost cry... Thanks for the nostalgia, man, it's amazing!

Hey, _Hocus Pocus_; one of the few shareware games we actually owned the full version of. Still have the CD containing it, complete with jewel case and manual (although the game is so small that it's a bit of a waste of CD real estate, but whatever, means I can still install it on computers lacking floppy drives)! Really liked the game, although it dawned on me later that there are only 3-4 types of enemies in the entire game (bosses notwithstanding): ones that walk but charge you when you're the same plane as them, ones that walk but shoot at you, ones that fly and shoot at you, and ones that fly and drop things on your head. The graphics for each change from world to world, but the behavior doesn't, really. Also, the game would randomly give me turbo-fire (white bottle) or laser-fire (the limited fireball things) completely out of the blue, not from any bottle but for just walking around, which was more than a little weird (although not unappreciated). I wonder if that's tied to playing on Easy or something...? I know the game has cheat codes to give yourself them at any time, but they're not entered using Ctrl/Alt, so I doubt I entered them accidentally. Ah, well, it was stilll a moderately big part of my childhood, so I can't really complain. Never heard of _Clyde's Adventure_, nor noticed "BROIL CHQ", so yay, learning something new! (Also, somebody's attempting to remake the game in ZDoom, which is pretty impressive: forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?t=45804)

This is actually one of the first PC games I ever played. When we got our first PC in 1993/94, a Compaq Presario 486, my sister and I were each allowed to pick one shareware CD to go along with it. I chose the one with Raptor: Call of the Shadows, my sister chose the one with Hocus Pocus. Both turned out to be excellent picks, despite neither of us knowing the first thing about playing PC games yet.

this game came pre-loaded on a computer i got as a kid and completely forgot about it until now...i had the craziest nostalgia flashback thing. i remembered that computer, and the details of the room and even the smell. there was a simple game i loved on that pc that i cant remember the name of. a bunch of balls bounced around a screen and you had to draw a line across the screen to separate them but the balls couldn't touch the line as you were making it. it's a common concept, but i want the version i played. it must be from the same era as Hocus Pocus...anyway, thanks for this review...it surprisingly meant a lot to me

I have actually a good deal of nostalgia for Hocus Pocus, since it's one of the first games I ever played. Only the shareware version, though. Later, my father got the full version from the internet and many, many years later (as in, last year), I finally got it legally from GOG. I think it holds up quite nicely. It's not stellar, but very solid and provides quite a good amount of fun. I also never found the combat annoying, repetitive and button-mashy as it may be. I just think that enemies tend to spawn to late, as it's very easy to just run into them, if you are not careful.
