Lord, I would pay SO much money for a sandbox version of the Sims: Medieval. Like, a full on, proper version that had the style of Medieval, but where you have the same amount of freedom as in the Sims 3. Sadly, that won't ever happen. But I would be more than willing to pay full price for it; which for EA games, is rare for me. I like their games, but I fucking DESPISE them as a business; enough that it makes me not want to buy their games.

The customization options, from the color wheel to the custom patterns, were really great in Sims Medieval. It was the first time I saw the create style option, and I thought it was a great idea. I will say this about the game. I can't quite put my finger on it, but something about the way the sims are animated here seems much more appealing to me than it does in any of the main games. Or maybe it's that the animations are the same but the aesthetics are different...I dunno. Truth is the aesthetics of the sims themselves have always quietly bothered me. They just moved too jankily for my liking; too cartoonish. Granted they move cartoonily here too, but something about it here just works in my eyes. I dunno.

If you don't like it that's perfectly fine; but there's really nothing you can do, unless you wanna go ahead and make an overhaul mod. The Sims is not meant to be a realistic game; it's designed to be cartoonish and silly in every single aspect. it makes sense the sims themselves look that way. if you want a more realistic game, you really should be looking elsewhere.

For clarification, since he refers to the Kingdom goal and the quests as Quests. When you start a new game, you pick a Kingdom goal, based on the goals you've unlocked. (the initial goal is more of a tutorial and merely requires you to build all possible buildings in a kingdom to Win). There is no free-play mode initially, and anytime you're actually using Sims you will be on a quest. These quests have clear goals and a time-limit (though usually pretty generous), and determine which classes you can play as. (some quests allow multiple heroes to be used, or change how to reach the goal depending on the hero chosen) and cost quest points of which you only have a limited amount. The initial Kingdom has a simple goal and is basically impossible to fail, so you don't have to worry about what quests you choose to play. Completing quests gives the chosen character/s an amount of xp/gold based on your performance, as well as modifying your Kingdom in various ways, and adds Kingdom points for unlocking new buildings. Fulfilling the goal unlocks free-play mode for that Kingdom, which allows you to pick 1-4 heroes to manage with no particular goal to work towards, aside their personal daily duties. Once you've completed the initial Kingdom goal, you'll have unlocked other goals for new Kingdoms, which have more specific requirements and require you to choose your quests more carefully to ensure that you don't run out of quest points before achieving the goal. If you want the more free-form sandbox experience, this game REALLY isn't for you. But if your the type who needs goals to work towards but aren't good at making your own, this may be a good purchase.

Sims Medieval is my favorite Sims game, specifically because of the narrative structure - the way you had specific questlines and stories to complete made it feel a lot more... I hesitate to say Focused... than Sims 3. While I enjoyed Sims 3 and 4, I often get burned out playing them, because they get very repetitive after awhile, doing the same chores, jobs, school, etc. often off-screen - in Sims Medieval each "Quest" was it's own story, and involved a variety of events and characters to interact with. It was also coincidentally the first Sims game I ever played, although I owned Sims 3 at the time, I could not run Sims 3 on my PC.

I still think this game was great for what it was. I sank tons of hours into it, however, unfortunately it is lacking on greater depth. There's a progression system where you can continue to create new kingdoms and play them with different goals in mind, but after while they all play so samey there isn't much incentive to keep going beyond a few levels deep. It would have been excellent had it been expanded upon. Or maybe they could have beefed up their "free play" mode allowing for multiple generations and dynasties while still having a separate mission based play. Oh well. "What Could Have Been" could be applied at this point to dozens and dozens of EA games....

Actually, for what it’s worth, it’s a lot more fun than Sims 4. Sure there are rabbit holes, but there are more locations to WALK to and explore, and it actually feels like there are less rabbit holes than Sims 4. The Sims Medieval doesn’t bombard with load screens. Maybe because I’m goin through the ‘honeymoon’ phase with this game, but it’s actually really fun IMHO. No. The graphics are not Sims 4, but they are livable. I would have enjoyed CC made by people for this, but as a whole it makes a worthy stand alone game in general.

Huh. The religion thing got me thinking. Aren't characters from any game which doesn't interact with the fourth wall effectively agnostic, since they aren't aware of you manipulating their actions and environment?
@carysbebard36906 жыл бұрын
ZorotheGallade well, the characters could full well be atheist or believe in a different all powerful force, they'd just be wrong! Lol

This is the earliest review video on youtube I have ever seen. I thought people only post funny videos of random moments of their lives back in 2011 or I was just living under the stone.

I didn't find in the FAQ if the game can actually be inserted to my CD drive, so I put it in my oven. Didn't work at all, in fact I can't find the disc in the oven, only a gooey silver mess at the bottom.

I just recently and i gotta say i really love the your videos. I've never been someone who played or particularily enjoyed sims games or anything-building games (say simcity, roller coaster tycoon, etc, etc) but hearing you talk about them in your usual style of reviews (which surprisingly hasn't really changed over the years and i mean that in a good way) is so interesting to listen to and watch, i've been binge watching a whole bunch of your sims games reviews today. (city XXL, simcity stuff, etc, etc) i'm barely barely scratching the surface of everything sims related you've reviewed over the years. Your channel is easily escalating as one of the best one for me.

It's pretty awesome. Especially, with the Pirates and Nobles expansion. Speaking of which, LGR PLEASE review Pirates and Nobles. I understand if you don't have the time, but I just wanted to put in a request. It's a great pack and I'd love to hear your thoughts on it. Thanks! :)

While this game could have been better, I still think its amazing an absolutely unique, and I still continue to play it every now and again. I think my biggest disappointment, is how as you level up and start new kingdoms, there's not new quests.

i play mainly ts4 with a bit of ts3 mixed in, and i always come back to this game. it’s such a fun disruption from the monotony that can come from a traditional sims game. i love having quests to complete, characters (heroes) who are quite distinct, and a visually lovely aesthetic. while medieval is nowhere near complete (and i wish they had been able to expand on it), i inevitably return to it at least once a year. there’s limited gameplay, and once you reach the threshold it’s not nearly as fun, but until then, i always have a blast. i love this game and i so wish they had expanded on it more than just with pirates & nobles

I think it is a fair review of a game I really spent a lot of time on. Like others in the comment-section I really want a new Sims Medieval-game and maybe a more open version with build mode and aging. What I think your review was missing was the part that for every "game" you unlock you have to restart entirely, which was one of the few things that annoyed me in the game. That and the view-angle when your sim is in a building.

if you have a familly and your hero died. your son can continue with your stuff. also, get married and have a love one get your caracter a lot of boost like the sims. in sword fighting have a few choices who make more damage, play more safe for stamina or heath, you have to concern with both. you lose battle if you're tierd too. you can do a lot of stuff. don't need to do only stuff for quest. you can take 3 days to do a little step of the quest with no penalty in your happiness, after some time the caracter will feel lost of the way. the writting of the stories also is very good. you can get a lot of fun

Shame, I was hoping for a Sims 3 style game set in a Medieval style, where you can behold castles and houses and kingdoms and stuff, and with Ambitions or Get-to-Work style careers like being a monarch, where you actually have to run a kingdom by talking with advisors, and commanding your servants, like blacksmiths and bakers.

The battle system is lacking, yes, but there are fun ways to role play your way around it. Keep losing duels to this one sim? Poison their drink at the tavern! Combustion cordial prevent them from using armor, but that could makes them attack faster. Still losing? Team up with the wizard. Spells like magic arrow and inferno damages people, and the damage stacks. Other spells like telepathy and flare would help buff your sim focus. More of a bird person? Sic your pet on them instead. Take the opponent's fatal flaw into account too. Puny sims get worse with every fight. Sims with hubris get worse every time they won. Don't mess with the bloodthirsty ones, be underhanded with those. Got mugged, walking back from the tavern? Try tired your sims out to escape, instead of fighting them, especially at low level. Spam moves to tired yourself out. During a duel (not to death), when stamina runs out, combat stop. Otherwise, your sim will get KO for a couple hours, which kinda sucks. Be strategic with your moves and modes: Hilt smash is a fun move, it reduces a lot of the opponent's stamina when connect. Great for pacifist types. Whirling takedown is a gambling move, it doesn't hit often, but is devastating when do. Mortal blow is a guaranteed finisher when you whittle them down enough, and it's pretty cathartic when hits.
