Outrun is still so much fun to play, it never gets old. Great review!

I would simply love to play all the old Arcade Games, sadly there is no place that has any machines over here (Germany) that I know of. I remember a lot of my pocket money going into OutRunners, Revenge of Shinobi and others I don´t remember the name of. It would be a fantastic trip back to childhood to play any of those in an arcade again. I can still remember the sense of occasion, the smile of my dad when I played, that there was a bratwurst seller just round the corner, that I kept watching the older kids play, open-mouthed, in awe of how good they were... and so forth.

@Shiqna1 Thanks dude, glad you enjoyed! I wish I could have showed more footage too, but my phone didn't pick it up very well and the cabinet was constantly moving back and forth so it was hard to get clear footage. For future arcade games, I hope to have more monitor footage.

@blablupp77 It really is a shame so many OutRun cabs were killed for this game, including this one I played one as far as I know. I really have a love/hate relationship with conversion kits for arcade machines. It's still a fun game, but yeah, more often than not I prefer the original OR to TOR.

@JMMREVIEW It actually does the game a surprising amount of justice! It's got a new drifting and slipstream system, but it fits into the whole OutRun feel rather well. A very fun game, I'd very much recommend downloading it before its license to be on XBLA runs out this December.

I grew up in an era before Outrun 1/Turbo, but the arcade version of Outrun 2 was amazing.

@Shiqna1 It was simply more convenient, but the FOV issue and inadequate lighting issues did come into play somewhat. Might try with my camera next time to see how it works.

@Digitrax83 I have played those and I enjoy them! They are more like the original Outrun, with forks in the road and such, and are a ton of fun so I highly approve.

I love the Outrun series! The music alone sets me in a state of nostalgia! Thanks for an awesome review! And I can't wait to see more arcade reviews! Do some really obscure games! They are usually the best!

I've actually played the original Outrun on the arcade model where it was in the shape of a car and would move about as you go left or right. Probably one of the best games I played in the arcade.
@LGR13 жыл бұрын
@JMMREVIEW Pretty sure you're referring to OutRun Online Arcade, which is on XBLA and used to be on PSN. It's more of a remake/sequel to the original OutRun, with forks in the road, radio station selection and no turbo button or anything specific to Turbo Outrun.
@LGR13 жыл бұрын
@stickmansamsmith The game came out in 1989, a full six years before the F-50 was produced. So yeah, the F-40 is what the car is based on quite clearly :D

Yeah, that's a converted OutRun, dedicated Turbo OutRun machines were all white, they're also rare as hen's teeth. Seriously, there's only about 10 on record!
@CommodoreFan6411 жыл бұрын
I was honestly lucky enough to have played a dedicated Turbo Outrun as a kid in a defunked arcade here in Augusta GA USA and it had the turbo button on the stick, but i was about 6 the the last time I remember playing it. Seriously did not know they where that rare.
@Larry11 жыл бұрын
Commodorefan64 I think they're rare because the original OutRun was so popular, and if any operators did want turbo outrun, it was cheaper for them to buy a used outrun cab and buy the upgrade kit. But they are one of the holy grails of arcade collectors. That and the pneumatic Chase HQ machines, only five of them and the last one went on eBay for $300,000 !!!
@CommodoreFan6411 жыл бұрын
***** Yep as you know just like a lot of the play choice 10 cabs where upgrade kits to Punch Out. I'm in the process now of building a Mini Table top MAME Machine, just need too find someone with the tools to route out my wood cabinet on the cheap lol!

Great review. I have never seen the arcade version shown in such detail before with a few of its levels. A nice follow-up to Outrun I do think it is a shame about no forks in the road but as long as the gameplay is still there then I guess it is all good. I like the touch of your girlfriend leaving your car for your opponents. Quite amusing.

Great Review!! Love Out Run and the Turbo version is pretty good too. It's a shame they did away with the multiple routes as that was one of my favourite things about the original. I used to like replaying it just to see what those other endings were like. You're really lucky having an arcade close by where you can play these kinds of classic titles. All of the ones near me tend to have newer and less interesting titles. What's more, most of the units are slot machines. Urrgh!!

I went to an arcade that had a Guilty Gear machine, and the cabinet was shoddily converted, the cabinet still said Mortal Kombat, not sure which version if it, and had holes for missing buttons that Guilty Gear didn't use. Oh well, that place was actually selling them as well for 2,000 dollars, even the ones that looked like they'd seen hell. Some even had messed up monitors in them, so I doubt anyone would buy them unless they could fix them up. Still cool, I miss arcades...

I once came across a Turbo Outrun cabinet like the one this guy played in this video review, but I don't think it had the Turbo Outrun instruction bezel right above the screen like in this video. BTW i didn't play this cabinet when i saw it because I remember playing it back in the early 90s once at a skating rink, and the music used on the first 4 stages in the game (Rush A Difficulty) made me not wanna play it anymore back in the early and mid 90s. Which was kind of sad because I was a big fan of racing games back then.
@matthewrivera59236 жыл бұрын
However, I observed by watching some Turbo Outrun gameplay videos here on YT that most Turbo Outrun cabinets that were either the cabaret or dedicated cockpit machines had a different music order, which featured "Shake The Street" as the BGM in the game's first section instead. I'm guessing that the early versions of this arcade game had this music order: Shake the Street (Stages 1-4) Rush a Difficulty (Stages 5-8) Who Are You? (Stages 9-12) Keep Your Heart (Stages 13-16) And then later versions had revised the music order as follows: Rush a Difficulty (Stages 1-4) Keep Your Heart (Stages 5-8) Shake the Street (Stages 9-12) Who Are You? (Stages 13-16)
