Wow! My mum is Maltese and when I was a child we spent every summer holiday in Malta with my nan, and I would go up to the roof of her apartment where I could see the runway and watch the planes come in and take off. Never, ever flew this approach though. Stunning!

I was fortunate to fly in this way in my only trip to Malta; I didn't know this approach wasn't common and I was on the left side window. It was a stunning view indeed. The Azure Window was still there (Nov. 2016)

@@cherangtube2479 hi, no in Qormi, which is not far from the airport. Well we could see the runway from my nana's roof which we would play on when it wasn't too hot! Lovely memories, but Malta has changed alot since then (70s) xx

Beautiful video D-AIRX. Ive never seen this approach before, and never experienced it. I loved that final turn so close to the runway! That wide long strip of concrete at 6:30 is actually an old military runway used in WWII and before. Now it is used as a drag racing strip.

Richy Ħal-Far! I just love Malta

Richy :. It's what remains of RNAS Hal Far. The station had 2 runways in the shape of a St Andrew's cross. I flew in there once when the runway at Luqa was being re-surfaced. I love Malta too but I do miss the buses!

Seems to be a pretty unique approach. I fly from the UK to Malta around six time a year, and I too have never been on that approach. As Mangion says, it's normally down the East coast, then a right hand turn, and straight over the Freeport. Occasionally I've gone straight down the middle of the Island, and landed in the opposite direction, but never west coast, Got a place in Paola, I too love the place

Last July we came in this way,totally threw me as we were on the right side of the plane
@jackcole31468 ай бұрын
@@paulgoode5245 Strangely enough I've just returned from Malta and flew in north to south, straight down the middle of the island. And all the time I was in Paola planes were passing overhead, so obviously using the same approach. As I say in the past, 9 times out of 10 it was down the east coast and landing from the south.

Typically the approach would be from Malta's East coast not that area. Normally also pilots not familiar with Luqa Airport take a longer approach and go out further at sea before the final turn. Interesting. I've been on tens of flights into Malta and never had this approach
@doveronefoxtrot44176 жыл бұрын
They use both ends of the runway dependant on wind factor, that approach is actually fairly common.
@philbryant624610 жыл бұрын
Nice smooth landing. Like always with LSH or Swiss A... But very complicated way for the runnway... left sloap from the ocean would have saved at least 10 minutes...
