I agree about the taste. I like them and want to eat more, there's something addictive about the taste, though friends don't think they are appetizing. I was so excited it produced the first year, so I was grateful to have some fruit of any kind.

I tried a dried Li Jujube and it was delicious! I'm considering adding this to my yard, perhaps in a container to prevent the runners, and maybe espalier this tree to reach all the fruit. It's Jan 2024, how is your tree doing now?
@dirtygnomesgardens16679 ай бұрын
I decided to take the tree out. As much as I love it, it is just a little too invasive for my yard. I captured one and put it in a pot. It is doing ok, but the growth rate is much slower in a pot.

I have a Li Jujubee. Doing so poorly last year, had one fruit last season In 10a. Hope it will do better this year. Bought a new Jujubee called Sugar Cane. I LOVE THIS FRUIT SO SO MUCH!

I hope it does better for you this year. These are so good. Maybe the Suger Cane will do better for you too.

Could you trim all the growth up to the 5ft so that the spikes are not child height?
@dirtygnomesgardens16673 жыл бұрын
You probably could you would have to prune it a few times over the summer and the tree would have a tendancy to be taller and fruit higher.

Yes. The birds love these.
@calebproductions59703 жыл бұрын
Why you let it get so tall? Harder to pick fruit
@dirtygnomesgardens16673 жыл бұрын
Mainly because I don't prune much in the summer. I also prefer this tree growing straight up. I don't want it to bush out much. Most of my other trees I keep shorter.

Do you have issues with roots damaging foundation n water pipes?
@dirtygnomesgardens16673 жыл бұрын
I have only had 1 sucker so far. I have this far away from the foundation and haven't had any damage to the water pipes or wall next to it. I water deep to encourage the roots to go downward. Time will tell.
@lemontea1283 жыл бұрын
@@dirtygnomesgardens1667 thanks. I really want to grow this tree but I’m hesitant because the furthest I can plant it is 15ft away. And I’ve read about the damages it can do, so I’m like paranoid 😩🤣

I hear you. I heard the same things. You could always try growing it in a large pot.

can we prune to only 1 feet? instead of 5 or 6 feet in winter?
@dirtygnomesgardens16673 жыл бұрын
That might work. I'm sure it would grow back if you did but you would have to be selective with your cuts. Another option might be trying it in a container if you don't want a large tree.
@spandir3 жыл бұрын
@@dirtygnomesgardens1667 not a fan of container gardening specifically fruit trees... I saw in ind they grow these and cur to almost ground in winter and than only keep 4...6 shoots when it wakes up from dormancy out of many
@dirtygnomesgardens16673 жыл бұрын
Yeah It should work out and the mulberries are very tasty. I've seen similar strategies with Moringa trees.

I know these are supposed to be self fertile, but another video remarked that the production is better with a second tree for fertilization. What do you think?
@dirtygnomesgardens16672 жыл бұрын
I think it would be better with a 2nd tree but you probably won't need it. I get plenty of fruit. I would start with one and if you feel like you need it you can easily add a 2nd.
