I'm 52 and I can tell you life rarely ever works out the way you think it will. I never imagined my mom would get dementia and pass before my dad, who is 6 years older. I never imagined my dad would outlive not only my mom, but all 5 of his younger siblings. There are other things I could list. I just don't make expectations and I roll with it. Life can still be enjoyable.

It sounds like you have lots of exciting things planned ahead. I'm sure you are going to have a blast in NY. I'm glad you have a band that will help entertain everyone because sometimes being the bride and groom you spend so much time making sure everyone is happy that you miss the enjoyment of your own wedding. Having a nice spa weekend with close friends sounds like a fantastic hen party to me. Especially if you have it with those little sandwiches and puddings with a little prosecco :) Mani/pedi's, facials, massages, the works. Wedding planning, btw, is a full time job for six months! I only had 32 guests but the details of wedding prep are ginormous! Living with the two most important men of your life right now is amazing, so happy for you. One day when you get your house I hope it won't be too far away from your dad...but for now cherish every moment. I so wish I could go back to when I got married at 29 when my dad was still alive. Sometimes old before becoming a parent can be a good thing. Especially if you're still in good health. I was a little bit older than most before becoming a parent and have zero regrets. I did lots of fun things at younger ages that you can't really do when you have children. I wasn't limited on time by needing to get back to my kids. At the time I would have preferred to have had kids younger but since it just didn't happen I decided to enjoy life.

I love every bit of it, especially the creative and "off script " bits where you're just loose. But all of it is great. So glad you're getting such positive in life right now. I think we have come full circle. When I was young I couldn't wait to live on my own, and now lots of young people live with their parents. My parents got married right after WWII and lived in a small apartment in my grandmother's house for quite a few years while my father went to law school, and later while he was getting established. A lot of it depends on the economy.

Do you have salt caves in England? They are amazing! So you sit on a gravity chair and they give you a light blanket and just breath in the Himalayan salty air. It’s great for respiratory for your skin for arthritis and some places offer a reflexology while your relaxing. Just idea for you to do with your friends before your wedding 😊

most important is that people THERE at the wedding are close friends and family. not work people, or neighbors (unless they are close friends) please do calm down. YOU have to enjoy "your day". the hen party plans ....yep manicures and a nice dinner. the bridal shower.....I actually went to a joint shower. it was for the bride AND groom. quite unique, and it was fun.

Nothing wrong with having kids in your 30s! I didn't have my first until I was 31 (just had my second at 35), and my husband was 36 almost 37. Having kids when you're older allows you to be more stable, emotionally & financially. I think it's great that your dad has allowed you to live with him and save money- that's huge! And I can't imagine having 350 people at my wedding. 75 felt huge to me lol.

Cherish time with your dad. I had to bury my father last week. I was not ready to let him go. It’s hard to get into the holiday season and I feel like staying home alone and doing nothing. To combat that, I’m having lunch with good friends in a couple days and in a few weeks I’m going to an art exhibit with a different friend. Keep busy, but take some time for yourself.

People and their age fixations. My mom had my sister and me at 39 and 41 and my dad was 36 & 38. They did MORE than all the other parents around us that were younger--camped with us, biked, Girl Scout troop leader, swim team treasurer, drove us to a zillion activities all while working full time. Older parents have gotten out their wiggles and are often more financially secure, all of which make child rearing easier. Take your time.
