LOL I just made my own comment with your EXACT same quote... but I swear I didn't copy you :P I did also suggest to her "Miracle in Cell No. 7"... have you ever tried that? I just saw that one a few nights ago and let's just say that one is... in a total class of its own.

@@13jasonvoorhees Total understatement lol. Well, for ME it gets more complicated than that, but hear me out: I saw the Korean version a few nights ago (there's many versions apparently). And... relevant to its famous tearjerker status and why I said it "gets complicated for me"... Here's something I've noticed about myself: Although I usually enjoy tearjerker movies (ever since "Inside Out", when I noticed that feel-good brain endorphins can often come along with tears)... BUT if there are ANY significant feelings of anxiety OR anger in me, it usually has the effect of suppressing external tear shedding from me for some reason. And there was DEFINITELY a lot of certain other emotions from me during that film. There was ALSO a lot of extreme sadness in me, and those two different emotions were competing and fighting like crazy... the sadness was fighting to get out, to let the tears make an escape (and I consciously was WILLING to let them...) but the [other emotion] was NOT letting them. I've never had such an epic battle of two different emotions in my head like that before... I literally felt emotionally constipated [lol]. But... after I watched some reactions of the same movie... MOST people who see it have a much easier time letting it out!

The "UP" waterfall is real. The inspiration for Disney/Pixar's 'Up'. With a drop of about 1,000m the " Angel Falls" in Southern Venezuela falling from a flat top mountain is the highest waterfall in the world . Pictures of it I'm sure don't do it Justice. It's Located in South America. that's like America, but it's South !

The fact that there aren't any words in some of the opening scenes about their relationship is called the silent film paradigm. It creates an extra bit of connection with the audience because you don't have to hear what they say. You can just see how much they love each other.

I totally hear you regarding the "doesn't happen very often" thing- I've noticed that about myself ESPECIALLY since I've actually been TRYING to seek out tearjerkers for myself. Some may wonder, "WHY" would I do that on PURPOSE? Well, it did take until about age 30, but with a viewing of "Inside Out", for the first time in my life I actually noticeably felt those feel-good brain endorphins that can come along with tears. But it was ironically frustrating how, once I WANTED to find more movies that would make me cry... it was notoriously difficult to find them, lol. A few YEARS after Inside Out... "Interstellar" and "My Girl" both got me (moderately), then "The Land Before Time," and "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" both tied for most intensely tearful reactions from me in my LIFE. Those two were a long 7 months apart from each other. So yeah... quite frustrating lol.

There are so many movies that try to be emotional, although they fail. "Up" is like so many animated movies, where they pull on your heartstrings because they allow us to invest in their characters so deeply, if not for a short time. It doesn't matter how many times I watch this movie, it gets me every time.

Love the reaction. Some of the scenes are so unexpected and completely knock you sideways. The best for me is towards the end when Carl has been dreading the end of Ellies's Adventure book and he's never wanted to turn the page of Ellie's new adventure because he thinks it's blank and he's failed her. He then finds she's filled the book with the rest of her life with him and her "adventure" and her life have already been fulfilled. Just simple happy pictures. Oh man that hit me like a train when I saw it.

I never cried on the first 10 minutes when this came out because I was relatively young and didn’t understand the overall premise of the true love these two had for each other only for the love to be cut short in their old age. Now that I’m older I cry every time and I’m a 24 year old man. This movie just yanks at my heart strings which no other movie does. Truly a masterpiece and a definite go to movie if you need to shed some tears and laugh.

My family and I grew up with Pixar, but this film in particular is one of my mom’s favorites. She likes to rewatch this particular film every now and then. Paradise Falls is based on the real-life Angel Falls in southeastern Venezuela, which continues to be the tallest uninterrupted waterfall in the world. Ed Asner, the voice behind Carl Fredricksen, has sadly passed away in 2021. Before he passed though, he was able to lend his voice as Carl one last time in the sequel series titled Dug Days.

There is an exceptional piece of fan art out there of Russell as an adult, still wearing the Ellie Badge on his lapel, holding a balloon, while Carl, Ellie and Doug look down on him from the afterlife. It GETS the movie so clearly - how much the relationship with Carl - something he didn't have with his own father - shaped him and helped him grow up but never grow old.
