Even more gracious is how he covers george- after george trashed Liam in the press in their early days. I’m a Beatles fan first and foremost- but what george said was wide of the mark and unfair. Must have hurt to have you hero say that. But he took it well and didn’t seem to hold it against him.
@grrr.99983 жыл бұрын
@@RaidersDnB It was cruel how George ripped into Liam. He (George) was responding to Liam walking off stage during a gig and refusing to return. George thought Liam was letting fans down and spoke out in anger.

Every time I watch someone covering a Beatles song I realize how superior the Beatles are to anyone covering their songs.
@ferabra89396 жыл бұрын
The Beatles, both as a band and individually, were deceptively simple, as all geniuses are. It's only when you analyse what they are doing that you realise how complex and nuanced their work was. It was not just the songwriting, it was how they performed those songs. Take Yesterday, covered thousands of times...Paul McCartney, guitar and string quartet, right? well, that guitar and vocal hasn't been improved upon. It's downright impossible. The magic of that performance is amazing, how he phrases the words, sings the melody, how the guitar works perfectly with each note that he sings, all instinctively. Norwegian Wood, another one. Apparently simple, mostly Lennon and his guitar. Impossible to match. It's quite uncanny at times.
@thomastavernor41565 жыл бұрын
I agree. It's not a Beatles song though...

I can see the late and great George Harrison up in the sky saying, "What the (BLEEP) is he doing to my song?" He doesn't put any feeling in the song at all. He keeps putting his hands behind his back and bending over slightly just to sing in the mic, like he doesn't seem to care at all. At least the background vocalists sounded better.

This was my first favorite song. I was three or four and my mom went to the store and purchased as 45 and played it over and over for me. I believe it came out in 70. I never agreed with the phil specter copyright suit that this was a conscious rip-off of the Chiffon's he's so fine (had that 45 to:). Yes the chords are the same but its a completely different song. This suit was brought up at a time when the current environment of music production could not even have been conceived. Now it's a given that there are certain musically agreed upon chord sequences that go together, fall one after another, are sonically and psychological expected to go together. It has been that way for as long as anyone can remember, case in point r&b, jazz, blues. That music is built around a collective of chord progressions that are intrinsic to the genre. You could literally sing the melody of one song, over the chord progressions of another. Or pick up a guitar and jam providing you are a guitarist and know the chords - and if not quickly pick them up. That case should have been decided with George Harrisson's back catalog of music taken into consideration. He had a catalog of all original music, so why would he start immediately after the dissolution of The Beatles copping someones else's tune; especially on his first solo album?
@pleasepermitmetospeakohgre15044 жыл бұрын
Data Two Fair point, I think certain chord sequences often follow a pattern so you can't plagiarise there but it's when people copy a melody directly (whether that's consciously or unconsciously, producers don't seem to have the knowledge or background in music of the past to say "that's the same melody as such n such". I hear that a lot in modern music.
@datatwo74054 жыл бұрын
@@pleasepermitmetospeakohgre1504 Yes I believe that is true as well. I have sometimes wondered if perhaps popular music having been produced in the sheer quantity that it has been over the past seventy or so years, has begun to run out of truly original chord progressions, harmonies, and melodies. As an art student, we learned quite early that there is nothing new under the sun, and that most often someone is borrowing and hopefully taking in a new direction, the innovations of a predecessors work. In the visual arts, we see that all the time. And in the music world, I have heard various melody lines and harmonies reinvented time and time again. I really don't know at this point what great innovation is going to emerge or when. It would seem that popular music in its entirety has been the greatest change largely as a result of the most radical change in human history which was the industrial revolution. Everything we are today stems from that, from our livelihoods to our entertainment. Regarding music though, I am being very inclusive here. Everything from acid rock through country on into trance and club music. I wonder what music will be like in 300 years? Will it continue to progress towards computer-generated music? Will it revert back towards acoustic instrumentation as a backlash? But even more so, what will music mean and who will it be aimed at primarily and what chordal harmonies will be considered in the centuries to come and who will be the next great artist that creates the next major shift or change? What is the next new frontier in music that can compare to the emergence of rock and pop as we understand it? I really do believe that at the moment great sweeping changes in popular music styles have slowed considerably and maybe have begun to stagnate. It was an amazing era to live through when pop music went from crooners, to swing, to r&B to rock, to southern rock, to the California sound, to disco, to punk, to nuwave, to grunge, to club, to rap, to hip-hop. And yes I know I have skipped a few, but I was trying to demonstrate the greatest changes in pop music. But, where are we going from here? I have heard reemergences of previous genres like new-folk, disco, 80's pop, and nuwave styles over the past two decades. But now we are at a time where pop music as we know it has had a fairly lengthy history to draw from itself. It's not like the '60s or '70s or even the '80s where it was much less common to try and reignite a former genre. Have we hit a wall? Is there no new genre that truly means anything left to discover or invent? I will finish my coffee on that note lol. I wish I had a time machine for five minutes to peruse a radio dial (or its equivalent), three or four centuries from now.
