Hi Liam, thanks for such another outstanding video. I have recommended your channel to quite a few of my friends and I know they also enjoying your content. Please keep putting new videos out as they are a must see for me as soon as I notice a notification. You were rather brave to do that trek in such an isolated place without some sort of GPS rescue device. You might have had one on you but it may be worth getting one as a slip on one of the boulders could have broken your ankle etc. It was so isolated there I'm guessing that you only encountered other people at mountain huts.

I've always enjoyed your videos! I like your relaxed style and approach to both life and hiking. This time I had a bit of a friendly laugh when you att 2:57 say "cant go wrong, can you" and eat what you think is a blueberry :D The lighter ones of the two are in fact blueberries, but the darker ones you picked are called crowberries. They are fortunately perfectly fine to eat and taste a lot like blueberries. There are a number of eatable berries that are very similar to blueberries and also usually grow at the same place. Another quick unimportant fact: The reindeer in Sweden/Norway/Finland are actually never completely wild (since about 150 years), they are held by the indigenous Sami people. They roam freely but are are regularly collected by their owners and used for the meet, skin etc. No need to filter running water in the nordic high mountains, but it never hurts of course. Cheers from Sweden and keep up the good work!

Great video Liam. Have you considered walking the Nordkalottleden trail. A good stretch would be from Kilpisjarvi Finland to Abisko Sweden, 190km. There are non serviced wonderful Norwegian huts every night, 30 euros for a bed or 3 euros for day use if a member. Great wild scenery, few walker's, relatively easy walking. From Abisko where theres a supermarket and large Swedish tourist station you could continue to Kvikkjok on the Kungsleden, gorgeous scenery, huts every night if you wanted, some selling food supplies. You could also continue on another 300 km till the end of the Kungsleden or from Abisko continue on the Nordkalottleden which gets wilder, has some formidable river crossings, huts every night, following Swedish Norwegian border. I hiked it from August 24 till September 16, gorgeous fall colors, tree's, tundra, canyons. You'd like it. There's so many options including into wild Sarek National Park, the best scenery up north but no huts, few bridges, no marked trails.

Norwegian here. You’re clothes and shoes got me worried from the first second. Even though it was summer, you can get below freezing temperature and snow, storms and heavy rain. When hiking in the norwegian mountains for days, you need solid mountain shoes with support and water resistance, and layers of clothing with water proof jacket. When hiking alone you should have a GPS connection. If you break you’re leg or get ill in some way, there is noone there to help you. Just some crusial tips. Other than that enjoy the norwegian wilderness and mountains. Welcome back.

Which shoes do you recommend ?
@okklidokkli
@okklidokkli 4 ай бұрын
@@layerupNL If you are looking for shoes for the Norwegian mountains I would suggest hiking boots from brands like Scarpa, La Sportiva, Alfa, Crispi, Mammut and similar. Expect to pay between 250-500 Euros for a good pair of shoes. Remember good socks and blister protection. Good gear is not only life saving, but also the difference between a fantastic and a miserable experience.

Liam, have you been doing any study of all the plants and wildlife and geology of the areas you are hiking through? I picked up a certain amount of info through an adulthood with lots of outdoor adventures. But now in retirement I am studying what I am seeing on my walks in much more depth- trees, flowering plans, woody plants, birds, insects, amphibians, reptiles, etc and it is giving even more enjoyment on my walks to know much more of what I am seeing. I am even taking a naturalist class and will probably take more classes in the future! There are apps now that can tell you the names of flowers, trees, etc. In the US we have one called “Seek.” Don’t know what you might have in the UK/Europe. I am sure there must be something!

Beautiful scenery. It’s quite possible that the reindeer are farmed like the sheep. You can buy reindeer meat in Scandinavia. Although nervous of getting too close, unless they were regularly taken to a children’s petting centre where they are regularly touched (like some in the Cairngorms in the UK). It is quite possible that the farmer periodically puts supplementary food out for them, eg. mineral blocks, and might periodically round them up for health checks, so at least if not tame, used to having people near them, hence walking away rather than running away. I’ve had Cairngorms ones sat on the path as I walk by, as they are tame due to being rounded up and taken to the Reindeer Centre, petted by children and take their turn at being Rudolf and pulling the Santa’s sleigh at Christmas at events.

Reindeer eat mosses, herbs, ferns, grasses, and the shoots and leaves of shrubs and trees, especially willow and birch. In winter, they make do with lichen (also called reindeer moss) and fungi, scraping the snow away with their hooves to get it.
