The Richardsons were far more powerful and successful than the Krays. They had most of the West End sewn up and as well as Charlie and Eddie they had serious hombres like Jimmy Moody, George Cornell, Jimmy Clark, and Frank Fraser on their firm.

hi, david, i saw a documentary about london gangsters a few years ago where an ex metropolitan police detective from the 60s who had experience of the richardsons and the krays stated himself that the richardsons gang were much more organized , successful and powerfull than the krays, the krays wanted a piece of the action in the west end of london with the richardsons but charlie and eddie said no. have a nice day from the batman.

Fantastic champ John H stracey, I got to meet him as a lad along with Charlie Magri and John L Gardner because my uncle Charlie Charlton painted their portraits back in the 80s, he was royal academy trained and did a summer exhibition which included a series of some of our best boxers 👍🏻, I wonder if John remembers???

If it weren't for the Krays would Eddie be on stage doing what he's doing? The same as Freddie Foreman, Dave Courtney etc etc, in my opinion they started the whole gangster boom in the 90"s and paved the way for all the other high profile career criminals to do books, movies, after dinner talks / shows etc.

The Krays never made any real money till they went to prison, one of their Fan boys won the lottery and gave Reggie £100,000 that kicked things off and they then franchised the kray name for books , doorman/bouncer associations and the like. A lot of people pay well to be associated with notoriety.

Eddie hit the nail on the head regarding the long sentences. Yes they knocked a few people about but all that torture nonsense was just that. Charlie got out of his depth with the South African secret service and his card was marked by the British state. Him and everyone associated with him was going down for a long stretch. I like Eddie. John McVicar had a lot of good things to say about him in his book. But him & Fraser get out of their depth as well with the Hayward firm that night in Catford. They had already tried to muscle their way into Billy Hayward’s gambling clubs and got told where to go. That was the cause of the big fight in Mr Smith’s.
