Not only the greatest pound-for-pound boxer that ever lived but he's a good friend of mine! We've been good friends since 1996 we played on the Jacksonville Barracuda basketball team together even though he's ten years older than I am(R.I.P. our coach Rex Morgan and our assistant coach that is still alive Artis Gilmore)! Now we live three houses down from each other and as you can tell by my channel we both collect high-end cars. He's a Good old country boy loves to fish loves to ride horses! That's awesome, yeah he seems like a good dude too in life. About a year ago on a different boxing video Roy was in with a few others, I called him the best pound 4 pound boxer ever, and someone told me I was crazy and didn't know anything about boxing (couldn't argue much with him there but). After just finishing this I thought back to that person's comment and said you know, they might have been right. I didnt realize how many weight classes Roy fought in over his career. That is absolutely bananas to me 🤷🏾‍♂️. To even have the cahones to even think about doing that (as well as having short times between fights gaining or dropping huge steps in weight) but to go ahead and then do that, having belts in multiple weight classes 🤯. I also never knew he didn't really use the jab at all hardly ever really and started with a crushing left hook and was just out there throwing bombs with precision, quick as lighting, and unhumanlike reflexes that helped him on both outfielder offense and defense. I hope he is doing well these days, proud of himself, and please thank him for all of the great fights over the years!

@@AUDIOANDWHIPS2 Yeah that is amazing. People don't realize how tough it is in any pro fighting arena to deal with weight. Some guys have a REALLY tough time even cutting a couple pounds (especially at the tail end of training when they already have been cutting) but to move weight classes is just unheard of. And to bounce back and forth which had to be really tough mentally, but TAXING on his body. My guess is that he regrets the weight class jumps in the latter part of his career but only he would know. He has quick hands, powerful punches, and some dexterity like no other. How in the world do you go from sacrificing weight and power, to getting stronger but losing quickness, vice versa, up, down, left, and right and expect to be the same fighter? It's physically impossible 🤷🏾‍♂️.

The only fighter who was ever able to duplicate, and maybe even surpass Roy is the Boston fighter Joe Calzaghe. He actually beat Roy Jones and made him look average. Hats off to Joe as well. He was just as sick as Roy if not better. He retired undefeated if I remember correctly. Still Roy's skill and ability was one of the best ever.

His decline happened when he was 35, for a fighter who depends on them you just drop off around that age. Seen it in Australian rugby league (NRL), seen it in cricket. Seen it heaps in MMA. Roy is the poster child for it because his reflexes were so much better than everyone else's, the man was a genetic freak. He got me ifrom being a casual fight fan to a lover of boxing, then MMA. My favourite fighter by a country mile, will always be a Roy fan, he's my vote for goat.

True, but Glover Texeira won the LHW title, I think he is 44 I believe. He is definitely an outlier, this doesn't happen often at all, but just pointing out that some people can last longer than others. But it's not usually a good idea to fight past that point even if you CAN still fight. It would be better for your brain and body to retire, at least before you actually get seriously hurt, or make the CTE worse than it has to be.

Again IMO as a (former) lifelong FB fan, #16 is, for me personally, another f’n GOAT and another one just as genuine as Jones. Was a fan since his ASU days, lived in Phx then, and his Rose Bowl game was straight-up legend shit, even in a loss. I’m a CO native and when #7 retired I dreamt about seeing “The Snake” in orange & blue, when that finally happened I can’t even describe the emotions. I hadn’t ever even cared much about that side of the ball until Jake, he brought a defensive intensity to the offense. Maybe not the most skilled QB ever but he GENUINELY wanted to WIN and didn’t give a shit if it looked pretty or not! Favre & Elway are really the only close comparisons. Those seasons were the summit for me and really the demise as well, wasn’t ever the same after that. The contempt I developed for Mike Shanahan over that situation boiled over to the rest of the game and essentially ruined it from within for me. It stayed fun thru the Manning years but that was the end for me, they’re all just a pack of showboating, money fueled whores now. No more ‘TEAMs’, just a bunch of ‘I’s. Apologies for the ‘life story’ comment but Roy Jones Jr. and Jake Plummer are 2 men that I hold in equally high regard, not just in their respective fields but also in life. He's right up there with Sugar Ray Robinson and his skillset was amazing. He had a Middleweights body and fought mostly at Light Heavyweight towards the end. He just wasn't the same when he came back down in weight. Once you go up you have to stay, he lost too much muscle and was around 35 which is getting up there for a fighter. Still one of the all time greats in my book.

He fought for Light Heavyweight title but was mostly regarded as a Middleweight. Salvador Sanchez was a Featherweight. Ray Robinson was taller, faster and could punch. So you obviously never seen Robinson.

No doubt Sanchez could be rated as one of the all time great Boxers and top pound for pound. Yes, He's in any conversation because he was a special fighter. Where your argument fails though is when you start saying he would rip Ray Robinson apart ? I mean that's laughable because Robinson was 160 and I don't remember any 126 guys ripping apart any 160 guys. He was also around 5'10, 11 longer reach. He was way too big for Sanchez. I mean you are trying to make an argument that you have nothing to support it with. Ray Robinson fought bigger stronger men and Sanchez fought primarily as a Featherweight and was pretty much always fighting guys 126 and under.

Easily my favorite boxer of all time. I remember watching the Y'all must've forgot "Can't be touched" boxing highlights well over 1000 times. I first saw it on youtube around 2008/2009 and it was the most jaw dropping spectacle I've ever seen. Hands down, hands behind his back, Dancing, spinning around, bob and weave.. Roy Jones Jr was an absolutely astonishing boxer! I watched his bouts in the '88 Olympic Games and thought that nothing could stop him winning the gold, he was so dominant in every fight. Then that fucking shambles of a robbery occurred and I was gobsmacked. The thing about your man Roy Jones Jr was that, throughout his career, he invariably fought top-notch, quality boxers and not only beat them but made them look like amateurs. Furthermore, there wasn't a single journeyman among his opponents. Which can't be said for many world champions of any era. A boxer with such supreme skill and punching power comes along about every 50 - 60 years or so. It's small wonder that he's become a true legend. He absolutely deserves it! MsG

I remember Tarver giving Roy a hard time about how losing the weight didn't matter but when Tarver bulked up to heavyweight for the Rocky movie he was in then had to get back down to 175 lbs to fight Hopkins he finally admitted the weight loss really set him back. Chris Byrd experienced the same thing as he was a legitimately competitive heavyweight for a few years but tried to get back down to light heavyweight and got destroyed. It's one thing to lose 5-10 pounds for a fight but once you start losing over that, especially muscle weight, your body isn't in good shape when you're fighting at an elite level. Yes, in terms of health compared to a normal person you're in great shape but not in MMA or boxing, that kind of loss is really damaging and it sealed Jones fate. Tarver eventually moved up because he also just wasn't the same. It's a lesson future boxers hopefully learn.

RJJ had a major issue, in that he had no rival. nobody was even remotely competitive. so he kept going up in weight, to find new challengers. shouldn't have gone up to hw though.

He was smart, he should have known eventually his physical skill would decline and started adding things to his repertoire. Sucks because he is my all-time favorite fighter and watching him unable to adjust was rough. In his prime though, the man was a sight to behold.

Best pound for pound boxer ever and it's not even close. The guy was bred for boxing, literally. Intensely trained since childhood. I've never seen a combination of hands and power and movement like him. He made opponents look foolish. He toyed with opponents at times, fighting an opponent was like a joke to him. My favorite boxer ever. Doesn't matter what weight class you put this guy in during his prime, he could dominate them all. He was just on another level.

Prime RJJ was simply inhuman, a thing straight out of an anime/superhero movie. Imho TBE, he was simply unbeatable. When he jumped down from HW his body was too compromised by the fact that he went up, he just wasn't himy anymore. But up until that point, there was only one thing, and it was total domination.

Not only was his speed amazing , the power and timing and footwork with the faints is just a thing of beauty. He made it look so easy . but his style of fighting was not easy to duplicate , just pure natural god given talents with hours of working on his craft to get better. When you love boxing so much , it's hard to pick a favorite. But 100% Roy is on my top 10 list of all time greats !

I was about 20 at that time so I saw alot of Leonard too. The way I see it is there was only a few boxers that have a certain level of quickness and reflexes...I mean cat-like. There was Roy, Leonard, Floyd, Ali, Whitaker and even Tyson. I guess Manny, Naseem and from what I seen from video, Robinson had that too. All the other guys like Hearns, Hagler, B-hop, De la hoya, Mosley, Trinidad and some others were real close but not quite that quick. Out of that group only Naseem is not seen as a great I think. lol, I forgot about Toney before he got fat. Matter fact he was in terrible shape for the Jones fight compared to what he was. I bet yall didn't know that fight night champions started all the way from Toney's EA sports boxing. Yall don't understand that dude was untouchable at one time like Floyd was.
