The brutal truth with no holds barred. Nigel's kept quiet about the brain bleed - his choice which has to be respected; I reckon he must have got that in the Gerald McClellan fight. Great interview - thanks for uploading.

I read Nigel’s book and when i realised that after one of the Eubank fights he was sitting in the bath for days pissing blood cos his body had been bashed just like in a bad car accident it opened my eyes to him damaging a hard fight is to someone. Great champion and I loved watching him fight 👏

Nigel Benn is undoubtedly one of the greatest British fighters, nobody had more heart and tenacity than Nigel. He always gave his all, and it was obvious he served in the infantry in the British Army. "The role of the infantry man is close with the enemy, engage him, and kill him." That undoubtedly influenced his fighting style- he always pressed forwards and put opponents under relentless pressure. He was a real warrior and people love him for that. Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank created a golden era in British boxing, it was a zenith which hasn't been matched, let alone exceeded. The thing I admire most about Nigel is that he had the intelligence and strength of character to realise that his life was chaotic and going in the wrong direction. He fixed himself, embraced Christianity and leads a really clean life. Imagine turning up at a marriage guidance meeting and discovering that Nigel Benn would be advising you!

Good to hear him say this. At the time it was obvious that the Nigel Benn in with Steve Collins was a much diminished fighter. Personally I don't begrudge him a last pay day. But, to be fair, I didn't pay for a ticket. On the bigger picture, very few fighters gave as much to the game, and the public, as Nigel Benn. Legend.

Nobody would have been. He said as soon as McClellan landed on him in the knockdown in the first round that he felt tendons in his neck tear.
@stuartwilkie4887
@stuartwilkie4887 Жыл бұрын
@@u4ea70 I'm not sure people realise how good McClellan was. Even Ben said he thought the Americans had sent him over to bust him up. The thing McClellan had was physical mobility and the power to finish most of his opponents quickly. He was so concentrated, he seemed to not have any technical style at all. He just just got in there and beat people up quickly. Once the fight dragged on, he seemed to be in unchartered territory.
@u4ea70
@u4ea70 Жыл бұрын
@@stuartwilkie4887 I think McClellan is hugely overrated, probably the most overrated boxer of the last 30 years. He was certainly powerful and dangerous but he is more myth than anything else. There are famed stories of his sparring with Hearns at Kronk and Manny Steward gushing with praise for him but the fact of the matter is he never put in performances to back it up. He lost twice back-to-back early in his career on points. His 3 best wins were an ancient Mugabi (who had been blown out in 1 round by Norris a year earlier) and the two Jackson wins. Jackson is great to watch but not a great fighter and a former jnr MW. Even then he gave McClellan hell in the first fight that almost certainly left him with brain damage. The return match was a blowout, proved nothing - he got Jackson again before Jackson got him. Against Benn, he had huge early success (Benn technically should have been counted out in the first) but after that really just got punched about the ring, aside from the 2nd knockdown in the 8th. He struggled to win a round after the first. If McClellan could get offense going and land clean, then you were looking at getting stopped. But, if he couldn't blow you out, he just wasn't very good at winning rounds.

This guy and bens family should have told Nigel, the money Nigel needed would have been pointless if he had died. also I do not feel sorry for Nigel as I can remember him when he was still fighting and he said he wanted to make enough money to where he could retire and be able to spend something like 10 grand a month. also this guy saying Nigel wanted him to go to court and wanted him to say something about somebody but not giving much details ( is it true what he would have been saying about that somebody or was Nigel outright asking him to lie ) this makes Nigel Benn look very shady at the worse possible time with all the controversy around conor Benn and his very expensive legal team (paid for by Nigel )winning a legal case over jurisdiction but they have still not gone through due process by going before the bbboc.

Nigel Benn had to go to America win world championship away from home dugg dewit was the world champion he had to do the same for his second world title in Italy forgot his name but Benn won on a serious cut. Beat Iran Barkley he was a proper champion Eubanks won the 1s fight but Benn was robbed in second fight. Benn was a great explosive world champion.

Collins decent fighter but not in the same league as benn or Eubank. Benn was a completely shot fighter after the McClellan fight and Eubank let him off a cold knock out in round 10 I believe. The 2nd fight could have gone either way and although Collins got the verdict was never the same again. Eubank retired collins as he seem to break down in training for the calzaghe fight and Eubank stepped in at short notice and lost on points in a fight calzaghe would later say was the hardest fight in his unbeaten career. Collins fought both well after their peak.

Jeez what's a guy got to do, he beat the both of them twice each and was reigning super middleweight champion, defending it successfully 7 times. I truly think Collins was a great fighter the equal of a prime Eubank and Benn if not better, not only a very tough guy but skilful boxer too. The first Benn fight they were both in good shape and good form, it was a very tough fight. Eubank also went the full 12 rounds with him both times and couldn't win, and had 8 fights after his first with Collins. Neither Benn nor Eubank were that far past their prime. That's what I think anyway.

Eubank came off a career great performance against Henry warton yet in his next fight he was shot against Collins 👍😁
