I remember Hollywoods as a kid: surface glamour, filthy underbelly. It was an effort getting in the gaff (young black lads, full of energy) but we were seriously on point dancers and it was good for the club, our light tripping, so they kindly let us in eventually. Violence was the fiat currency. The atmosphere was always jolly and high until the kite came down, then it became ancient medieval rituals and spilt teeth. I grew up in Bow and Stratford so when I escaped to university, I never looked back but some of my mates were all part of the Pills and Spills era. It was honestly, hard and horrible.

Lee Chapman said he saw Roy Shaw one night crouched behind a bin, and he was picked up by the police and he was in possession of a hammer 🔨 Fighting is all he knew I reckon, and being told he can't go in a club is seen as people taking a liberty which doesn't go down well with a certain breed of human beings.

Friend of mine played piano in a club called Bugattis in Brentwood years ago, around 82? Haw turned up one night and wouldn’t leave at closing time 2am, still drinking at the bar. 6 “bouncers” twiddling their thumbs. Police were called, Roy agreed to leave then went the plod left he changed his mind and wouldn’t leave till 6am. Nobody challenged him lol. And people say he wasn’t a trouble maker?

Thing with Roy Shaw that may be getting overlooked with regards to his perceived mood swings was that Shaw died of dementia, the onset of which could have been making issues for him at a younger age than many might believe. There are photos of Shaw walking about social events and just from these it is horribly obvious he was being ravaged by the illness (rheumy eyes, signs of incontinence, weight loss). Could Shaw have been in effect a dementia patient even at this time? Possibly. It has also been said that contrary to his fitness regimen, he was also fond of a bag of beak here and there.

Wasn't Mr Shaw in Broadmoor ? So definitely he was not all there. You only have to see him in interviews, he's a twitchy, terrifying guy. Like you said, Roy Shaw is not a god. But it's no great feat for a professional bouncer of 6-6 to sucker punch a pensioner of 5-8. And then only go public with the story 12 years after Shaw's death too.

If it had of been a 35 year old Roy they where dealing with he would've annihilated them. He was in his late 50s when this happened and was showing signs of early onset dementia. Sadly what they did to him in Broadmoor fried his brain. They pumped him full of lygactyl (liquid kosh) to keep him heavily sedated and doing the lygactyl shuffle as it's called, as you can only shuffle when on it instead of walk, that caused the dementia. Still though when he got out he was hugely successful and became a self made millionaire. The man had skills that pay the bills. He deserved some respect from those door man they were nothing compared to Roy just a bunch of cowards in their little pack.

My husband was in a pub in the late 80’s and he met a fella who was a painter & decorator who swore he was in a huge house in London painting a loft conversion or something like that anyway there was a room at the end of the hallway that was always locked but after the third week on the job this fella noticed the door was not actually locked but was in fact being kept closed by a hoover which had obviously fallen on its side. It seemed like a case of someone forgetting to place the vacuum hose back in its housing. I guess we’ll never know but this video really reminded me of that incident for some reason.

In fact a parcel arrived to my home one rainy day in April, it was wrapped tightly in brown paper with the the address placed perfectly in the middle. On closer inspection my suspicions were confirmed that the delivery was actually from Amazon. Even now I tremble at the memory of slowly opening that parcel only to reveal inside what was a box & inside this box were…. Epsom salts. I had ordered them the previous day, apparently they help with sore muscles when added to a warm bath. That's character nothing could keep the man down and he even beat Lenny McClean in an unlicensed boxing match. You have to weigh up what he went through and what he achieved. The liquid bullet productionz interview with David Kelly's a belter. Why? David Kelly is a very humble man. He carries NO "big I am" persona. It should also be pointed out, unlike many other people doing podcasts, writing books, making films etc, he (along with David Cawston) actually knew Tony Tucker. Both admitt they have no knowledge of what the Rettendon murders were about. However, both men are able to give an honest & accurate account of Tony Tuckers real life character. It needs to be pointed out, in real life & according to both men, Tony Tucker was NOTHING like his portrayal in the film's. So much so, he's probably turning in his grave over his portrayal in the films.....

Lee chapman was always fair as a doorman and comes across as a straight up fella. I did the security for the ricky hatton fight at the excel centre back in the day and roy shaw was there with his pals and even at that age his eyes were bulging at people. Another fella Dave Cornwell from east london who did a few doors around east London was a very very hard man.
