"BUCKAROO" written by Bob Morris. (not Don Rich) I believe he played with the early Buckaroos. maybe bass prior to Doyle Holly. Buckaroo only country instrumental to reach No1 for 16 weeks 1965. Not bad for a simply country tune, right! mosrite60
@tonkinkid5 жыл бұрын
First instrumental of all genres , to go to No 1, Floyd Cramer's last date from 1961 made it to NO 2 and yes Bob did play bass before Doyle

Merle Haggard played bass before Doyle aswell

@@reeceblinman7469 Merle also played bass for the Wynn Stewart band. During his early years he sort of floated around Bakersfield with other bands before he started the Strangers. Interesting background.

Bob Morris played bass with Buck on sessions in the studio when recording. I don't believe he ever went on tour with him? You will also see Bob on a couple of Buck"s Ranch tv shows from the mid-60's before HEE HAW. Bob then also worked for Buck in Bakersfield running his recording studio in the late 60's and also ran Buck's publishing company dealing with copyrights and such. To my knowledge BUCKAROO remains the only country INSTRUMENTAL to ever hit Number one on the charts. I was blessed to work for Buck at one of his Country radio stations.
@mosrite603 жыл бұрын
@@jimwest6571 yes, Bob played bass on recording sessions. Buck preferred him to Doyle for some reason. Buck was funny that way. He also asked James Burton to play lead on "Let The Good Times Roll". Don was okay with it. Buck had the best musicians with Buckaroos. No debate .

It does sound great but its not the new standard. Buck and Don set the standard. These guys are only doing a fair cover.
@mosrite6011 жыл бұрын
Lightnin Hopkins oh agree. Don and Buck set the standard for \'tele" sounds. Don and James B are the "Kings" of the tele. Back in the 60's this was remarkable. BTW what model Gibson do you play? New Year 2014
@SuperOlds8811 жыл бұрын
mosrite60 That's a good one. Though I do wish I owned an older jumbo Gibson. I don't own ANY expensive guitars. Mostly companies cheaper copies, like Squires and Epiphones. Can't afford anything. I take that back, I own one decent guitar but its a resonator and its not old, but its made by National.

I played a '54 Tele with a bender my very good friend put in it for me in 1974. Without being too stuck up I can say that I can play the piss out of a bender. Yeah, it's not as fast as Clarence's version but it has a pretty good tone to it and the harmony guitar is cookin'. Why not relax a little and stop calling people names?

Buck presented Don’s Telecaster to Marty at a ceremony at the Crystal Palace. A couple weeks later Buck called Marty up and asked for it back. Don’t know if it found it’s way back to Marty. Marty does own many of Luther Perkins’ guitars, as well. The D-45 Marty plays is a 1941 , acquired from Johnny Cash, who got it in a trade from Hank Jr.

Marty, Since you are playing Clarence White's Sunburst Tele you really got to find and listen to a recording of Clarence playing "Buckaroo" and on the same Tele! Hate to break it to you buddy, but Clarence White plays it much better. He's plays it more snappy, but with a quick light touch. White, inventor of the Tele b-bender is the master and guitar genius

Hey Marty, Clarence White's tele has a unique unmistakable soft yet bright voice of it's own. Clarence's playing of Buckaroo was fantastic, but now in this recording the tele has more of a brash metallic sound, what have you done? Clarence's spirit came through in his playing, but don't mess with the perfection of that one of a kind guitar. It's like altering a Stratavrious

Come on Marty, your playing Buckaroo on the same guitar that genius Clarence White used to play this exact same song, but was a thousand times better than you. Your version doesn't even come close. Clarence's lively fingers danced and pranced through that song, but you play it like your bored to tears. A tired dragging march through an otherwise happy song. Go listen to the master CW's version and learn to play it right, even better than Buck Owens ever did. I will say Clarence would appreciate the way you play Hummingbyrd on his Sunburst Tele.
