A native of South London, with Greek and Jamaican parents, La Havas began teaching herself to play piano, write songs, and sing at the age of seven. Her family’s diverse taste was very influential, when she was a child, her grandparents babysat her often: “They’re from Jamaica, so when I was growing up I listened to a lot of religious reggae-almost hymns, but in a reggae style-on cassettes. But at the same time my mother was listening to a lot of '80s and '90s Michael Jackson, and Mary J Blige, who I loved from a very early age. Plus India Arie, Jill Scott and The Fugees”.
Lianne’s biggest hits include “Green and Gold”, “Unstoppable”, “Gone”, as well as an incredible cover of Dionne Warwick's “I Say a Little Prayer”, and a show stopping Tiny Desk performance for NPR Music. Her catalogue also includes the albums “Blood” and “Is Your Love Big Enough”.

I was thinking how she looks somewhat older than the 25/26 she was when this was recorded. I think it's because she doesn't try to match herself to the fashions of her contemporaries. Her eye makeup is very understated, her wardrobe is very mature, lovely without being desperately sexy. It's a visually interesting video but it keeps the focus on her gorgeous voice and beautiful songwriting. Lianne La Havas is the best :)

I saw Lianne today (Sunday) on Channel 4 Sunday Brunch and immediately looked on here to leave a few words. Lianne is a very pretty young lady and appears grounded and seems to know exactly where she's going in her musical career. I really enjoyed hearing this song and will buy it today too. I was watching some boring tv three months ago and switched to the Late Show with Jools Holland...then, appears Lianne La Havas, Unstoppable ! The introduction the pure voice before the band clicks in, and I'm saying "wow, this is quite experimental and very good quality musicians backing vocals, the strings, brass section, who is she !!!" Three months later I have all the Lianne La Havas tracks on ipod iphone etc I listen to it mixed witn other jazz, funk music and I paint in my art studio listening to this amazing talent.
