This is the new reincarnation of the Caribbean airline LIAT.
The CEO of LIAT 2020 has set August as the target timeframe for the airline to recommence operations.
Hafsah Abdulsalam, in an interview with the Antigua and Barbuda Broadcasting station, stated, “We will start with immediacy once we finalize the addition of the ERJ, the jets, the ERJ145 onto our operational specification. At the moment we've been approved to fly the ATR500s, but I believe everyone's aware that we've got two jets sitting pretty at the airport waiting to be flown. So, we're working this week with the CAA to bring this aircraft into our OpSpec.
“As soon as we have that finalized, we're open for business. We've started to apply for landing permits. We'll be seeking to offer charter flights immediately and obviously launch scheduled operations before August.”
Abdulsalam also mentioned that the airline will initially employ about 200 staff members and will provide same-day connections from the northern to the southern regions of the Caribbean.
Just recently, Prime Minister Gaston Browne disclosed that the government finally received the requisite Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC).
The LIAT 2020 airline is being formed in partnership with Air Peace, a private Nigerian airline founded in 2013.
