I find this series fascinating, but I am a Petroffs man, boring but effective, more of a Stoke City than a Man City. This was a fine game though. I would have played Be6 without the provocation. Thanks Daniel and keep up the good work.

But can they do it on a cold rainy night at Stoke? 😀 Stoke and Petroff, what a great comparison!

@@dilejjja Thanks, it is right effective dull not much threat but can do the business given the chance.

@@joseraulcapablanca8564 Actually, it can produce some quite interesting positions. On amateur level, of course.

@@dilejjja indeed, have played Petroffs since I was a young boy, some great games out of it, but compared to my favourite as white the kings gambit it is boring.

Thank you for analysing this game! Very interesting move order indeed! I finally bought your book, even though it's not part of my repertoire, or shall I say: not yet...😉😁👌

Another great game to go over...Liberation station, when this happens in most games, the opening comes alive but.I like the trojan horse, who couldnt resist playing a chess opening called the Kalashnikov and moves like the trojan horse.Buy the book version as well, its just as good plus a little bit more in it than the chessable but i grabbed that as well lol.

every time i see this variation, i ask myself why white wants to go on the walkabout with the king's knight...a total of six moves in the opening to get to e3. why not just go back to its favorite square on f3 in one move? thanks for your coaching/teaching/entertainment, daniel. you're my go-to chess channel.

If the knight goes back to f3, Black equalises very easily...

To my understanding, it's a trade off : giving time for a superior structure and putting the pieces on optimal squares for that specific structure. But it does give black the time to get space and play on his own. When I started chess, my sympathy was with white but now I'm not so sure.

When my opponents start playing d4 so that I can get a change to try the Kalashnikov, I might consider buying the book.

On lichess d4 the first choice by far, being played about 50% of the time (after 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6). The c3 line, that annoys so many people is played only 10% of the times. Or course you should have some anti-anti-Sicilian ideas there. It's not like the London or KID where you play the first four moves regardless of what your opponent does, but it's pretty common you can get the Kalashnikov on the board, no?

These Sicilian lines are very dangerous for white. At first glance pawn on d6 looks awful but as you show game after game Mr. King, well-prepared black player will often triumph. In this line, if white does not exploit the d6 pawn somehow, maybe by castling on the queenside first, then black's strategy seems justified. As soon as I face Sicilian as white, I just improvise, do some gambit(Smith-Morra) and generally have good results with it. I never enter into these theoretical lines.

The backward d-pawn doesn't look awful to me! In so many Sicilian variations it is quite normal: Kalashnikov, Sveshnikov, Najdorf. In fact Black's sound kingside pawn structure in the Sicilian is often such an asset.
