When I saw Hikaru had played a Kalashnikov, I was hoping we would see a video by GM King. I wasn’t disappointed. 🙂

Yes, I will be writing a book on the Anti-Sicilians for Black, but it will take me a little time to get going on it. I will keep everyone posted as to schedule.

Just finished your Kalashnikov Sicilian book (fantastic), and this is a great supplemental "model game" to add to the studies. I wish you could make a KZbin playlist of all the extra Kalashinikov games that couldn't make it into the book!

I would have missed this little gem, had it not been for your video. I haven't been following the American Cup. Very interesting game. Must have been very frustrating for Leinier to face. As always, thanks for the excellent presentation! Enjoyed it thoroughly, as I have both your Kalashnikov and Anti-Sicilian courses on Chessable. I haven't finished going through the Anti-Sicilian course, but every part/opening I add is racking up the wins online. I've been surprised how well the Rossolimo material is doing. Not sure, I've lost a single game yet. Similar situation against the Smith Morra. Few Wing Gambit wins, not many people play it. Tackling the Alapin next. :)

I noticed a long-time ago that Naka prefers knight to bishop in the endgame. But this is another level. Usually 2 bishops are way stronger than 2 knights, but not here. And the position wasn't closed.

On move 44. Dominguez missed Bf4 instead of Qa6, that would have kept him in the game so to speak.

Instructive video about the Kalashnikov but as it’s a black pieces defence perhaps you should consider to switch the board to show the “ black view” of the game

Dig Black's hardworking James Brown. The other funky Knight was very brave, so to be consistent I'll call him Fela Anikulapo Kuti. Fab and groovy. Thank you again, GM King.

Nakamura is very good at playing the ambiguous confusing move even if there is a more solid continuation. Interesting he criticizes Magnus sometimes for playing too proper against sub-2600s instead of creating ambiguity - of course within the limit of playability we can't forget the Sulemanov debacle.

I wouldn't mind trying the Kalashnikov, but the pawn on d6 looks weaker than a straw house in a hurricane.

Danny, did you look at that slightly scandalous g4 move instead of g3 for white that was sort of all the rage on the broadcast?
@PowerPlayChess
@PowerPlayChess Жыл бұрын
Nope. That would be an excellent way for White to inflict chronic kingside weaknesses.

I think, I have to watch this at least three times. I still don't understand everything. Especially the question of king safety isn't really clear to me. The pawns in front of the kings are still symmetrical almost until the end of the game. Well, yes, there is no defending white knight and the white queen is in „Siberia“ and the black rook and queen on the second and third rows are really anoying. All right, when I see the positions of the last few moves at the end, it's obvious, but then still somehow the question remains, how could this happen and how could Nakamura see the possible and actual development of his moves in advance from a absolutely innocent looking position. Maybe one has to be a professional to see the clarity in some of these moves. But anyway, I'm happy, that you're sharing this great content with the word. I really like it and it makes really fun thinking about, even if I'm not good enough to understand everything as good as I wished to.

Let me put it simplistically: with the structure that arises after the exchange on d5, Black has four pawns in front of the king, and White only has three. A typical scenario in the Sicilian which often leads to an attack. Of course, there is a bit more to it than that :) but that is a fundamental difference between the two sides.

Absolutely ZERO players would have moved the f pawn and the length of this thing, I could have watched 3 or 4 or even 5 reviews on Historical Chess Videos with the time I invested here. The length should have made it mistake free, but there were a few. Please answer me this ? why would a busy man watch this lengthy video when much more concise and precise chess reviews are available? Do you enjoy the sound of your own voice?
