Re the torture.. **SPOILERS** The heralds never agreed to be tortured. The fused just found out that they were freed every time a herald broke. So they torture them to be freed. Taln is the one that was alone for thousands of years

Amazing book.I plan to re-read last 300 pages b4 Dawnshard and I will also re-read Rhythm of War b4 Stormlight 5 this year. Sanderson is without a doubt my favourite Fantasy author! 😊

I finished Oathbringer 3 days ago. It was an enjoyable read overall but yes very long and a bit of a slog sometimes. The Sanderlanche was great but didn’t have quite the same effect on me as WOR did. I’ll be taking a few months break before starting ROW.

I loved Shallan during WoR, and I like her again after RoW. Obviously I won't spoil anything from RoW. But my issue with Shallan is that she keeps secrets from the other POV characters for absolutely no reason. It honestly just drove me crazy me how better off everyone would've been if she stopped keeping so many secrets in Oathbringer.

The parts 1-4 are slow, all in different ways. I love part 4, but a lot of people struggle with that one. Part 2 has all the Bridge 4 POVs, and that is great, but also somewhat at the side of it all. I agree that the quality of Sanderlanche in OB is a bit lower than the two first books For the three first books, my order would be WOK, WOR, and then OB. But WOK and WOR are really close, and also a little jump above OB

16:33 *SPOILER* Really funny this bit. My reaction to that was to ask why it happened? Why the Honour abandoned the singers (is it singers? In Spanish is "cantores") ? Why did the spren abandoned the singers? Yes, humanity conquered them, but why? It was really weird that nobody in-universe asked why did humans conquered Roshar, but just rolled with it thinking they were the bad guys.

"The flashbacks are so good" is honestly my problem with the series, nothing in the main timeline is as compelling or dramatic as the past stuff. I have similar feelings to you about Oathbringer, it's still the bottom of the pile for me even below the novellas.

Completely agree with all the critiques you gave... and yet somehow this is probably my favourite SA book currently lol. Curious to see how the reread is gonna hold up. Also, I have forgotten when you learn about who the leader of the Ghostbloods is, but there are definitely answers in one of the SA books. Don't want to spoil it, but if you read RoW and you are still in the dark then you have missed something hahah. Great review! And yes, Shallan supremacy!!!

Great review even if I don't agree exactly with every single thing you say. I don't really understand why people hate Shallan either, and I'm happy that you "kind of understand" where Moash is coming from. I always find it strange when people pretend like he's completely evil and his actions are totally unjustified. Yes, they're wrong, but they're also understandable. That's the point. Somebody else here already did a good job explaining why the heralds get tortured, so I won't repeat that.

I think Rhythm of War is much better paced than Oathbringer. I agree that Oathbringer is so slow, though I did still enjoy it. Shallan is my favorite character too.

I mostly agree with you, but Kaladin remains my fav character, and I think it won't change. For me Oathbringer is a book where caracteres grow a lot in general, and I think although it is the slowest book for me so far in SA, it is necessary. Being so slow it allows the reader to get to know the characters more and love them even more. But that's just my opinion. I won't write any spoiler, but you need to read RoW. Enjoy it!!

It took me over a year to read Oathbringer. Just because I was bored in certain sections. I kind of regretted reading that slowly because by the time I reached the end I forgot a lot of the things that happened in the beginning of the book. On the other hand I loved Rhythm of War.

I realized why Brandon Sanderson’s works and especially Oath Bringer really I just can’t jive with…I’m an aphant. I have aphantasia, and I personally do not like reading descriptions of clothes and scenery over and over again. My kids and husband are hyperphants are love Sanderson because they can see the battle imagery in their minds. I stopped reading the series because I felt like the characters never got anywhere and I really want to revisit the characters but there are just pages and pages I zone out. Plus, too many character stories leaves too long of periods between character stories.

I didn’t like Oathbringer as much as everyone else seems to either. I really didn’t enjoy Rhythm of War either, mostly because of the flashbacks. I dreaded the flashbacks in RoW. I love Kaladin the most of all the characters-mostly because I feel like he needs a hug.

Well, third place for me too, WoR and WoK are better but still this is a very good book that i recommend, i didnt have pace problem but i see a lot of people mention it, so it must be there. Now, Rhythm of War... that's where my problem with pace is. RoW feels like a chore to read, and the flashback character is uninterested AF, thats the book i cant recommend unless your are already a big fan of this series and you need to read it to get to Stormlight 5.

Brandon's had some pacing issues in the last two books, I think 1+2 are the best novels overall, but I think 3+4 have had the highest highs, most memorable and well crafted moments, they've been the most profound reads for me personally, the ones I remember the most. A lot of Shallan just feels... unsupported, unearned? (Even when she's clearly been through/is going through so much.) I don't know how to express it, it feels like she's just going to win or knows better most of the time? We've got a few good moments out of her that make me want to see it through however.

I don't think dalinar is a great character. He committed mass murder, a genocide. I don't understand why people like him
