This is one that I wish I had found earlier because it contains a simple walk-through of the action symbols and how to control the layout at the beginning of the video, combined with a simple explanation of their practical application. That saves a lot of time assimilating the logic and limitations of LibreCAD's capabilities, which in turn enables one to not only more completely assimilate what follows, but also imparts the off-hand ability to get what you need for the project you are working on. It's worth going through the entire video because what follows works in alternate methods of accomplishing the same things that are more efficient in a case-by-case basis, as well as some operations that require demonstration to impart the concept such as trimming and filling. I played it at 1.5 times speed because I understand better when things move faster, and I can always hit pause when I want to stop and think how to apply it to what I'm working on. Thanks to RobsGamingNetwork for indexing it so I can return to points in the video efficiently. A couple of default settings I wished I had changed in the beginning are the colors. The black theme and complimentary colors for the grid etc. might be fine for designing, but you don't print on black paper, so the light colors you pick for layers that contrast so well on black are the opposite of what you want when you print on white paper where you need colors that contrast with the paper. Perhaps there is a default template somewhere that has the perfect mix for a white background. If you want to stick with the black background for design, you could always swap light green for dark green etc. when you go to print. One thing I wish and that is that I could print the grid because the grid is sometimes a logical division of the units chosen. For instance, for house plans, if you are working in inches and fractions, it will might show 6 divisions, which is 2 inches, which makes it easier to determine distances that are not foreseen as needed during design time. I got around it by taking a screen snip and printing that, but native would be nice.

It would be much better if it were broken down into smaller units because I am trying to do the example alongside the video and sometimes it goes so fast that I don't pick up on where the instructor picks an item from and have to backtrack the video, which on a video so long is very difficult to do, invariably I go back too far and cannot easily find the bit I want to see again, even if it were only a few seconds earlier.

Hi Adrian McCarthy; a little trick that I use to help relocate specific video segments when viewing all tutorial videos is to "map" the "time" of the important parts that I think I may want to revisit later. By time mapping I can note the particular time of a video segment on a notepad with a heading that describes the video segment and that way I can return to that portion of the video later. I had to stop watching at a time stamp of 1hr 14 minutes as I needed to comment and couldn't watch further. Now for starters I'd like to say that the pace of presentation is appropriate for a beginner. Too many instructional videos purportedly for beginners are presented at such a fast pace that no beginner or novice to a software package or skill can follow. So for that I say Kudos. Now, such as this video was intended for a beginner it would be best to actually show good methodology or technique, and rationale for "why" you're using one line or element over another, keeping in mind what the part is and the purpose of the drawing. Granted your purpose was merely to show how to use the program, not design this bushing. But given that many of these drafters will be using the program to design or possibly make their own parts it might be beneficial to show a drawing methodology consistent with the part's manufacture. The purpose of part drawings are to clearly convey that information necessary to manufacture the part, in this case a bushing. Respectfully I must say your part development and dimensioning it fails. Learning good technique is just as important, if not more so, than just learning which command does what. First off you missed the horizontal line that would denote the bottom of the counter-bore and top of the central bore on the section cut (right hand half of your object's side elevation view). This line would've been a visible line in the drawing. Keep in mind that section views are used to provide enhanced clarity for features which may be difficult to interpret from simple 2D plan views (eg: overlapping hidden lines for complex borings such as o-ring seal grooves, etc). Secondly, dimensions shown should be only those that have meaning for the part's manufacture and be positioned clearly. No one casts or bores holes in parts based on the radius of the hole - you should dimension the bore diameter. As for holes, Radii are typically shown for relative position only (eg: bolt circle dimension). It would be appropriate to dimension radii for features such as fillets or corners, but not holes. Next it might be best in this instance to dimension features starting from the center and working outward on the part. (eg: below the part show the center bore diameter and the major diameter of the cylindrical portion. Next, above the side view, and below the top view, show the counter-bore diameter and the major dimension of the top portion. For vertical dimensions, show either the top thickness or bottom cylinder length (more on this choice later), then the counter-bore depth, and lastly the overall length or height of the bushing. The placement of the counter-bore depth and the cylindrical portion would be placed co-linearly and inside and inside the overall length or height dimension. Dimension nothing else as it would be redundant and possibly confusing). For example: for the machinist manufacturing this part on a lathe or milling machine (vertical or turret) it would be best to show the centerline, the center bore diameter, the diameter of the cylindrical portion, the overall width of the top or square section, the counter-bore diameter and depth, and the overall bushing length. Now you should notice that I've not mentioned the length of the cylindrical portion or the thickness of the top square portion of the bushing, this is because the designer would specify one or the other for dimensioning based on which dimension is critical in the manufacture and end use. If the top section dimension was critical for a part that was to be both axially and radially constrained then that dimension would be shown so the machinist would know that that dimension is critical, conversely if the bottom or cylindrical section was critical for sufficient radial load bearing surface area then that dimension would be specified, but not both. This same reasoning would apply if the part was going to be cast. The tool and die maker who is tasked with making the die for this part would need to know which dimension is the more critical or defining feature. They all might be important but not to the same extent, therefore don't confuse drawings with all these dimensions that don't add clarity. They only clutter and confuse, and that is not good teaching. Teach to "think" not just do - machines can "do" but the person(s) programing the machine need to know how to think. You have a great pace and have a clear speaking voice, please step up your game and take it to the next level for your viewers.

But you can resize all windows by clicking in the corner of the window and holding down the left mouse button and dragging the window to the desired resize. If your problem is the your screen is physically too small and incapable of the resolution that your computer display is currently set at, you can "cheat" the LibreCAD QT application size at the command line when opening LibreCAD with this command: QT_SCALE_FACTOR=1.5 librecad & See here: forum.librecad.org/GUI-scaling-problems-td5720394.html Change the QT_SCALE_FACTOR= SIZE to your desired layout. What's with the stupid, creepy background music? I want to learn how to use the program, not be annoyed and distracted by background noise.

Hi William Wallace; Thank you for attempting to view this video tutorial. Some viewers do find the volume of the background music annoying so I have lowered the background music in a duplicate video. I will put the link here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mqbLn32Dm8aZodE

@@howtopamcom Thanks for the reply and for the tutorial videos. I wish you could understand that for some of us, having background music at any volume is an incredible distraction, and consider providing a version without any music.

Thanks for your effort but you are not an instructional designer or producer of video instruction. Terrible music, you don't have a plan for learning, instruction isn't about talking to yourself, endless 'OKs' when it's not, reference to 'here' when it's not clear where 'here' is. Suggestion: change the cursor to a large arrow and a strong color that shows up. Why does it take 20+ minutes to start a basic drawing? For an introduction we don't give a f**k about the options, the colors, what we can do if we want to. JUST INTRODUCE US TO A SIMPLE DRAWING SO WE KNOW WHERE WE ARE GOING? This should be COMPLETED within 2 minutes of starting. What about some concepts: a drawing area, everything is line. drawings are built from a series of lines as you would when working with pencil and paper. I came to this tutorial expecting to use the mouse to draw quickly. There may be a way but I can't stand the drone any longer. I've been patient but I'm done. BTW, teaching is a professional skill. Having a mouse and a voice recorder does not make a fully qualified teacher.

Why is he using a cholo accent?
@bill11012 жыл бұрын
Very slow; yet fails to mention when pressing the enter key, talks about drawing horizontal lines when in fact he is drawing vertical lines. Seems to just be winging it rather than following a lesson plan. A previous comment praises the slow pace but the viewer has the option of stopping and starting the video so there is no need for such a slow presentation from the student point of view. The student needs a LOT of patience (which I don't have!).
