They're up against The Mummy. Complete with a deathknight protector, an ancient order of assassins, Egyptian aesthetics, and an inscrutable dream-god theme. At the heart of it all, a plane-shifting city at the center of all realities. Perhaps instead of splitting his soul into several components he instead splits his alchemically protected body as such, storing his vital organs within glyph-laden urns.

You need to put Norkarth on your Mythic Locations list! I would love nothing more than to see the heroes investigating this multidimensional city. Of course, only the dice will decide if Norkarth becomes a focus on Me Myself and Die!

Using another solo system to establish the background of a character is a great way to build them. And by creating the villain first we as viewer and especially you as player will care more about them compared to instantly generated one. Although with your skill on delivering narrative even an instant one can become memorable (ie. Carlos)

So excited for Season 4!!! I finished Season 2 yesterday and haven't had the time to start S3 yet, so when you mentioned Cherylin I instantly though "she is going to be the new main character? Oh a prequel!!" but what you came up with was even more interesting. You've been a big inspiration in giving me the final push to start solo-play and show me the vast posibilities of it, that it isn't simply "roll on table for random, ok next". With all those Lovecraft influence, season 4 definetely must have a madness mechanic in the system and... random mutations if we go the Warhammer path Edbert upon hearing that there's another undead problem linked to his clingy ex: 'God damn it, woman!' More rambling from a GM below: Golem holding a knowledge of how to be alive and sentinent makes sense for a guy who is soon to be technically, a sentinent flesh golem or... it can keep a secret of how to detach golem's body from it's soul... Nor-Kath really became the Kadath for Mot-Zorath I believe he can use the truth of a body AND the truth of shattering soul, narrative speaking, by either growing additional organs in his body via alchemy or putting the pieces of his soul in different parts of his body akin to Egiptian mummies... And a failed lich makes it an even more interesting adversary, since you can now have a sub-plot where a lich can try once more and finish the ritual and makes him vulnerable to a low-level but smart enough character...

I don't use Xanathar or many of the 'source' books anymore since I got the Gamemaster's Book of Astounding Random Tables. No character name generators but rolling on the Secret Society or Tavern name generator has provided some great inspirations like Shining Griffin can become Shiffin or Shi (an awesome comic book character, no less) or just Sue the Shining Griffin.

Trevor, your passion and creativity are an inspiration, and your enthusiasm is contagious. Fantastic work. Now we have a villain with a very strong motivation. Funny how his failure to become a lich actually makes him a more interesting character for me. I don't know if you've already revealed our protagonist for next season, but I think it's gonna be Veil. Unless you're planing to make a new character, or have a different idea in mind. In any case, season 4 cannot come soon enough (but no pressure, take your time!).

I finally got around to watching this today, after watching S4E1 the other day. I know it PROBABLY won't be the case, but it would be an amazing piece of reintegration if Mot-Zaroth was the Husk from S2, and he needed Ulvatan to complete his ritual to achieve full lichdom. (And apologies if I've given away the end goal!)

During part one, a spell-casting failure resulted in losing 1 resolve. One circle was "X"ed to indicate the loss of resolve. In this episode, an epic win occurred, while saying "plus 1 to resolve" another circle was "X"ed out instead of erasing the previously lost point of resolve. In the bid for Lychdom, +2 was awarded to the villain because of the perceived 2 points of resolve, instead of the four points the villain should have had. Would a 13 have changed the outcome ? Really enjoyed watching the process. This idea could be a fun way to produce player characters as well.

I like to think that it was the curse. He had everything going his way. From essentially nothing he came, attached himself to power, pulled strings, manipulated an entire city, bound powers far beyond anything he will ever achieve to his cause, maneuvered the terrible scope of arcane realms and escaped serious repercussions all the time. In time he hardly spend time even considering the mundane realm anymore, instead traveling the world in a crazed pursue of more and more arcane truths. Those plots against him? They were not overlooked, never, it's not that simple to best him. But he misjudged the true nature. Mundane plots, how quaint. How boring. Mercantile quarrels, feuding royalty, it's so bland and uninteresting, entirely beneath Mot-Zaroth at this point. An adventurer for hire? Ridiculous! It *was* weird that Oone met him in his dreams though. Surprising even. Not a threat. Of course not. But unexpected. This mundanity had a subtle arcane undercurrent, something he could not immediately decipher. It made him nervous. He felt like, for the first time, it was not the mundane world that was after him - he could handle that. He felt the uneasy grip of an arcane plot tightening. He felt threatened. He felt time ticking. He felt rushed. He felt cursed. Not that it matters. Not really. After all, it was swiftly dealt with and forgotten. Forgotten especially due to him finding another great and arcane Truth so soon after. Forgotten so much that he did not notice the parallel. Forgotten was the assault in his dream. What is forgotten, you can not recognize. Recognize that this new discovery was encountered in a dream as well. In truth, Oone, while easily removed, still left a mark. A gift even: This unexpected Truth. Mot-Zaroth was blind to this. Exhileration he felt over finally ascending. Blind and ignorant he was of how this seeming Truth contradicted what he already knew about Lichdom. Relieved he felt over escaping this crushing dread that recently unnerved him so. Blind and ignorant and naive he was to think he could ignore this new Truth and make due with just what he already knew before. Blind he was, ignorant, and naive. And Overconfident. The curse upon him was fear. Fear that snaked it's way up his body, gripping his chest tightly, taking his breath and whispering in his ear. That he was ready, that he should do it now, that he was prepared. Confident he felt. Wrong he was. This third Truth, it was worthless. A false Truth dreamed up, put into his head by adversity he did not understand. When he so needed strength, it gave him only weakness. The curse worked it's effect. His ritual failed. I like to think it was a last resort. An act of spite from a fallen adventurer who was better prepared then the great Mot-Zaroth ever expected.

Okay. This is gonna sound loco but... The order of the purifying flame HAS to be involved in some way in s4. If Sherlyn or Cherilyn or however you spelled it, sealed ol lichy pants away.... then as haters of undead and undead type stuff, they'll likely wanna help since ol ghosty pants is gone ALSO either Edbert or Nikola are going to come in play in some way because the lizard men have an isle buuuuuut likely the lizardman Edbert fostered will have to be an asset in finding the island and getting the lizardmen to help fight against lichy pants. FINALLY! The island of the lizardmen should likely be the finale. That's where Nor Careth will show up right? So ol lichy pants wants to... basically be fully immortal and believes Nor Careth holds that secret but ol Nor, only pops up on Lizardman isle soooooooo. Travel! Maybe our hero comes from the red wastes buuuuuuut eventually hooks up w/Nikola at some point to not only find Lich busters but to get to lizardman isle orrrrrrr, wasn't the lizard dude w/Nikola? So maybe.... it guides everyone back to the isle or something????
