I think making a system for PvE is easier than PvP. It's harder to balance pvp.

So far this is my favorite episode! Just a lot of cool stuff going on like the fight and the aftermath 👍 SPOILERS: The way you had the assassin described the Death Knight was so cool (and terrifying LOL). Like if Akhom is this scary to encounter, I can’t imagine how terrifying his boss, Mot-Zaroth is gonna be like. The interrogation was just great overall! Veil using magic to find Akhom was awesome and Thragg slapping the assassin was just hilarious 😂

dice pool games should not use dice. if it's a 50% chance for success per dice why not use coins?!

savage worlds is by far the best dice system. you throw a different die depending on your skill. it just feels better

Another great episode! One question (or perhaps a suggestion): MGME2 has a whole slew of tables that are skewed to specific things. In my own solo game I'm finding the locations and city tables particularly useful. Are you planning on using any of these in future installments or are you just going to stick to the main action and description tables?
@MeMyselfandDieRPG5 сағат бұрын
I'll probably get to them eventually, but honestly the main tables provide me with virtually everything I need to riff on events :)

I like the elegance of this system in encapsulating different events in one mechanic. In combat, DC20 has three currencies for combat. The Action Point determines how many things you can do in a round. Stamina points give player options on maneuvers and the strength of the roll determines damage. Your system seems to do all three things using the SL of a roll.

- Well, Simon's was your first foray into solo RPG so it's understandable that you, like him, were reactive to the situation. Also, compared to your other characters, Simon has a goal but doesn't really have any idea on how to achieve that, the goal is too vague and less focused compared to Arn's reaching his home settlements, Edbert's find out why he is stranded (there's a pirate that can point direction) and Veil's reseal the Lich. They know what to do at their moments compared to Simon who just stumble upon a necromancer temple which happens to be where his parents are. - Now I know that it wasn't the case (it was Savage World), I still think that this initiative system is similar to 5 Parsecs From Home, success and you go to quick phase before the enemies, fail and slow phase. - The zone system simplified movement a lot! While counting squares is fun, moving zones using action economy is great! - I haven't got the time to coment on your recent newsletter but I gotta say, I have been adopting your philosophy of dice as an agent of chaos in my sessions, even the one I run. And the failing forward mentality. - And finally, a question. Now that your world is comprised of Savage World, Ironsworn, Dominion Rules, some of Lichdom and now your own system Broken Empire, will Broken Empire become the default "rules of nature" of your world? I mean back in season 1 many people flinging spells easily here and there, but then here in Broken Empire casting a spell is something dangerous. Will you use that even if you revisit Simon, Arn or Edbert?
@MeMyselfandDieRPG6 сағат бұрын
Yes, the magic system's flavor in The Broken Empires RPG will be the default feel of magic regardless of what system I use in the future.

I'm going to check the Livestream VOD after this but I just gotta say, I prefer this kinda initiative, more concrete than the phases from previous version. I wonder if you get the dice initiative system inspired from PbtA rules or even 5 Parsecs from Home, they are pretty similar.

I still really really love Savage Worlds playing card initiative. I'm also very excited for Broken Empire's social encounter system. I think that will be a game changer in soloplay.

Still enjoying this season. With how focused the season is, it's easy to see where things might be going from here, if the dice behave themselves. And for some reason I'm getting future season protagonist vibes from the General. (I do not anticipate the dice behaving themselves)

So a regular game (which is what I was expecting from how you'd been talking about the game generally) but with maybe a "Suggested adjustments for solo play" appendix? (which is unexpected and new information to me - Not normally needed, IMO, but definitely helpful)

You said "simon would never do that because he was reactive, a character that is proactive is better for drama" that is true, but I feel like it can make things a littlw bit rushed. Idk how to explain this, but I fell in love with your channel when Simon had to stay in that cabin in the woods healing himself and just struggling to survive. I never had that experience in a RPG, just the amount of storytelling, it was so compelling and just a great moment. So i guess its a tradeoff. You get a driven character like veil and it is full of action and drama. But it feels rushed somehow. I hope you understand what I mean. Its not a criticism. I love your videos
@MeMyselfandDieRPG12 сағат бұрын
I wouldn’t call it “rushed”. I’d call it “paced”. But yes, there was simple survivalist fun in having Simon deal with a twisted leg in a cabin in the woods. I love those kind of situations too.

It would be cool if when you roll a critical in a Parry you could Riposte, make an attack for free with -20
@MeMyselfandDieRPG13 сағат бұрын
It's only if the attacker fails in the attack, but yes, that exists.
@wilywonky13 сағат бұрын
Wait, if the death knight is just chilling underneath the city then why would the assassins have to use magic to communicate with him?
@MeMyselfandDieRPG13 сағат бұрын
They only know the location of the altar where to perform the ritual to communicate, not his actual location (in Mot Tsaroth's old quarters).

The charge attack made me think ... wouldn't it be super interesting to have some kind of maneuver (a wild attack sort of thing) that reduces the skill of the roll by 10 but then added 2 SLs to it if the roll succeeds anyway? It would be a cool high-risk-high-reward mechanic. Less accurate but more powerful if you will.

There is. It’s called “Aggressive Attack” :)

Good episode. I can't wait for the next one. Also can't wait till your system is out, so I can force my group into playing it. They're getting kind of tired of D&D lately, so shouldn't have to work too hard to get them to try something new.

Late to the party, but just finished Season 1. Wow, Season 2 looks like a big step up in production, and I love the enthusiasm. I think Ironsworn looks like a more interesting system for this. Great stuff, better than most streaming shows at present. I'm looking forward to catching up!
