@Shasvin Puvanesvaran nergi has a two star rating for poison so while chameleos poison would likely hurt nergi, I doubt it’d be enough to let chameleos win a physical brawl. In order to beat nergi, chameleos would have to stay invisible and keep hitting him with poison, but for that work it would need nergigante to not have a very good sense of smell or hearing, and while they aren’t strong enough to be affected be dung pods or sonic bombs, the fact that nergigante is an active predator would imply that they are decent at least. This and the fact that elder dragons are all considered to be intelligent creatures means nergi is able to locate and kill chameleos, and once this battle turns close quarters, chameleos is done for

You know, Chameleos could have a fun mechanic in world. When it steals your consumable items, it can use them to assist itself. Think about it, if it steals you mega-potions it heals itself, your steaks give it back stamina, max/ancient potions will fully top off its stamina and restore only 200 health (full health would be to much). This could also be applied to mushrooms should you be running Mushroomancer, blue regular potion level heal, toadstool gives it temporary health regeneration/increased poison potency, para/nitroshrooms give it defense and attack up respectively (same if it were to steal armor skin and demon drug respectively), Devilblight gives it full stamina and makes it harder to exhaust, Mandragora works like a max potion (restore 200 health), and exciteshroom give all of the above mushroom abilities. On the other hand should it steal barrel bombs they explode in his mouth dealing damage, and form of tainted meats will inflict their specific ailments (example tinged meat inflicts paralysis). Antidotes making it unable to use its poison temporarily. Other items that could give it interesting effects are cool drinks reducing fire based damage to it (if warm drinks are ever introduced then it'll give it ice damage resistance), screamer pods giving it one earplug piercing roar. If it steals a flash pod it can use it to stun players when you hit Chameleos with a flash pod. Also would be a hilarious way to reintroduce deodorant as if it eats a dung pod it can inflict that one status that prevents you from using consumable items. I know what I've posted above all sounds absurd as Chameleos never really have shown this level of intellect but think about it. This gives more control to the player (especially in solo play) to how hard/easy you can make this monster. Do you want an easier time? Just have antidotes in your arsenal to prevent him from spamming poison breathe, barrel bombs to just let him detonate himself, and special ailment meats. Want a harder time? Bring all sorts of mushrooms, armor skins/demon drugs, screamer pods, ect. This would also make for a grand time with friends if your bored. Just have everyone bring stuff in and have a good old game of monster hunter item roulette. What has Chameleos stolen and from who? What buffs or debuffs has it consumed from you or your friends. To me that level of randomness would be a welcomed change, just that little bit of choice in extra or less challenge while of course keeping Chameleos the same in his classic aspects (as in the way he fights).

Potions healing for 50 dmg don't amount to anything for the monster though, when one True Charge deals upwards of 300 damage (or 500+ with a proper build).

@Overlord IV While you are 100% correct, the point of this mechanic is to give Chameleos something extra special. When compared to an explosive lion and a tornado generating metallic dragon, Chameleos feels just a tad lack luster when it comes to destructive force. Sure spitting poison and turning invisible is cool and all but let's give this elder dragon something that would make hunters even more fearful. Besides next to nobody runs regular potions in world, and even if they did the fact Chameleos usually steals things left and right means those potions stack up quickly (example Chameleos hits three players and manages to steal three regular potions, that's 150 health). Also I've seen some truely skilled great sword players but with the ability to turn invisible I'm not sure how many true charges you would be able to hit Chameleos with. Edit: think about what they COULD do with this mechanic in world if they made Chameleos arch-tempered. Instead of making him a health Sponge they can buff him in a meaningful way. Instead of one or two new moves and more damage they can increase the amount of items it can steal at once. Combined this with with a buff to double the amount of healing items effects. Sure no extra health but that player who just lost 3-5 mega-potions because they failed to dodge its tongue just set your team back some massive amount of damage. I run Mushroomancer myself, I get hit and lose 3-5 mandragoras not only did I lose some my life line but I just gave Chameleos 600-1000 health back (1200-2000 if arch-tempered Chameleos gains a double healing buff). This would make Chameleos a more skilled based arch-tempered punishing players for not dodging rather than a cheap health sponge with a cheap and easy kill gimmick (see Lunastra and extreme behemoth).

The reason why Athlal Ka isn't an Elder Dragon is because it's an Neopteron, an insect which means it can't have Elder Dragon blood which is a very important thing to qualify as Elder Dragon. Thats the reason why Monsters like Akantor, Ukanlos and the Lavientes aswell as Duremudira aren't Elder Dragons. They don't have pure enough blood. This might also be the reason why Gore Magala isnt classed an Elder Dragon. The Metamorphosis might be the thing that purifies its blood.

Well we have monsters like Shagaru Magala, Dire Miralis, Zorah Magdaros, I THINK Dalamadur, that are classed as EDs but don’t drop Elder Dragon blood (and Behemoth if you want to count him). I was always under the impression that elder dragon blood was simply any type of blood drawn from anything classed as an ED, not some universal substance that all EDs shared. Plus lets be honest, it kind of de-mystifies the elder dragons in a midichlorian type of way when you say they’re only classed as EDs because of their blood type, not based on their strange abilities and traits, their rarity, or their destructive nature,

Tyler MacGregor Actually, Frontier imply that their powers and strenght is directly connected to their blood ( a natural and mysterious source of power). With World it's highly possible that the blue bioenergy is caused by their blood as well. That idea also is supported by the fact that Elder are related only to other Elders in the official ecological tree. Behemoth doesn't come from the MH world so it make sense it doesn't have ED blood. Kirin didn't drop ED blood untill Stories and World... So I guess that some Elder don't have that drop gameplay-wise due to balance of drops but have them lore-wise. King of flames The ecological tree is clear though, Gore is an Elder... The ??? Class was just a placeholder.

One of my favourite monsters that I also really hope to see in MHW at some point. Also, back in 4U, his G-Rank armour just was godlike. It was so easy to get high level Earplugs, Sharpness +1 (and for you people who are new to the series: Handicraft used to give you all the bonus sharpness with a single tier so it was really one of the best skills out there) Wind Resist High, Status Attack +2 and Crit Status on there... I don't have my 3DS right now but I think I even managed to get critical eye +1 in there as well (that's 10% free affinity with a single tier btw).... I mean, it made you awfully weak to fire and dragon but it really was one of the best full sets in the entire game imo (especially if we are talking vanilla without the star knight event quest stuff which simply was broken af, like it made the Drachen Set look like a piece of Junk). Man, 4U was such a good game....

I always have this love-hate relationship with Chameleos. I love him and I think he fights uniquely compared to other elder dragons but I friggin hate his tounge stealing attack. The mist is really something I'd love to have in World. Like in general Chameleos would work well in World but I mean the mist specifically. We don't really have anything besides day and night when it comes to scenery. Strong differences in the weather sadly only occur when you are on a quest to hunt Kirin or Kushala... Mist doesn't exist at all, rain only exist on Kushala hunts in the Ancient Forest I believe and thunderstorms only exist on Kirin hunts in the Coral Highlands. Also with World's graphics and art design, a swamp with mangroves in a deeper part of the forest would look really really cool and atmospheric

Most elder dragons give off an imposing air, but Chameleos feels totally different. This bug-eyed reptile just wants to spend the entire time messing with you and making it such a pain to even touch him that you just cart from exasperation of the highest order. He'll poison you and steal your antidotes and potions, and he'll look so *smug* about it as he just keeps doing his careful little slow walk around (making sure to mix it in with wildly fast maneuvers to throw you off further). I mean, he gassed the place and then just *left*, hoping you'd stay for a while trying to find out where he was. A masterful prankster dragon.
