Wow. What a find on You Tube! A Russian born US citizen analysing Indian music! World can't get smaller than this ! I am grateful to you for your interest on and analysis of Ilayaraja's (the Isaignani - musical genius) music. Your way of explanation - the counterpoint etc..is too good.

@@LidiaKotlovaPianoStudio My intent is not to belittle others, but I encountered many people outrightly criticizing Ilayaraja. I undergo extreme agony when people criticize Ilayaraja without tasting his music properly. My words originated from this agony. I am extremely sorry if my words were offending. I clearly know that word is not a thing, still I would like to express my deepest gratitude for your efforts to share the depth of raja to the world more technically. I wish, your work would bring more light on Raja's genius to the more people, especially to the critiques.

There is an actual fugal composition in the album How To Name It. It's called Mad Mod Mood Fugue. I cannot say if it is technically a fugue as I am musically illiterate, but it has some characteristics of it, I guess. It's mislabeled as You Cannot Be Free on this upload (on his official channel!)! Starts at 15:22: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2e5p3uaqa6EftU

Hatsoff to your explanation. Just an info about this album. When he was in flight, suddenly he stopped is conversation, and started to write in a piece of paper.,Afrer few weeks,he finished the recording ,along with a movie recordings. This piece was not in cassete ,those days, when kamalhasan heard this piece inspired and composed a tamil song "valaiyosai "from movie "sathya". IR said in so many interviews,he never thinks and writes, just a flash,.he writes so fast before the flash moves out from memory. Generally 7am to 1pm and 2 to 8 pm,are recording slots, two songs will be recorded.Tunes will be finalised in previous sittings, during this recording, by 7 am to 7.15 scores sheets will be written for musicians, upto 9 am,rehersals ,by part by part, then singers will start their notes,it will be written as swaram notation form. By 11.30 am,rehersal will be conducted to gether,by 12.30 full live recording is done. No mixing of tracks those days. All live performances. Even one musician go wrong ,one more take will go fully. Similarly 2 to 8 pm.next song. Once written,no corrections and additions,or deletions.mostly.This pattern was followed from 1977 to 2000, By one week time a movie with 5 to 6 songs and bgm will be completed. Yearly 50 films ,for five contionous years. 1985 to 1990. This period only how to name it was flashed in his mind during a flight journey.

Days are passing, weeks are passing, months are passing but still I am listening with the same interest, so I realised that, that it why it was named as HOW TO NAME IT, the feeling that carries along with our soul, beyond time, in the form of a musical expression. thanks for your explanation regarding this monument of sound. and this is first time i am watching your channel, if you didn't do any video about the old film named "the sound of music", if possible please share your comments on that film, at your free time. thanks again.
