I do about 80% of my charging at home. When I’m travelling, e.g. from the Northwest to to Southeast I use ultra rapid motorway chargers, usually Gridserve because they are fairly common on the M6 and M1. Yesterday I used the 150kw chargers at Sainsbury’s in Hemel Hempstead. Public rapid chargers are pricey, but the cheaper charging at home (in my case 9p a KWh between midnight and 5 am) makes up for it.
@taefravis2 ай бұрын
As with most things it depends on many factors such as the efficiency of the iCE car, the range and efficiency of the EV etc. As it stands yes this is near enough what it costs to drive an ICE per mile however not all public chargers cost the same. Tesla charges about 35p per kWh which is reasonable in my view. Those who can charge at home can get quite a saving as my brother has an EV and he charges at home which costs him about £5 to drive about 200 miles in 2 days to and from work compared to over £100 in petrol costs. Those who can not change at home may not save as much but I predict that one day soon there will be so many chargers and so much energy that costs will be much cheaper.
@bilko1325Ай бұрын
@xperyskop2475 we've just bought an ev, we can't charge at home and you're right the fuel doesn't save much but between the insurance, service plan, tax and the small savings on fuel, we are saving an average of £100 a month so it's still worth looking at.

@@paulbuckingham15 thank you for that information. I'll certainly look into that. I'm also a octopus customer, so that would be nice to not have to think about payments till the end of the month. I still think I'd use that as a back up method, as from all I read, the Tesla superchargers work more often than not and at full speeds. Iirc the born is 110kw, I don't want to be driving from one to another just to find they are offline or trickle charging. I want a high degree of certainty, it will just work. But I think I'll deffo look into this, when I look into the EV tariffs .though I'm not yet sold on if the EV traffic, only being 4h, then a higher than standard 20h tarrif will work out cheaper than the standard tarrif I'm currently on using I think is sub 40p per kWh. I've not checked in ages. But I'm sure it's 36p. When i first got with them about 8-10 years ago I'm sure it was 21p. I get my gas and electric via them, Monzo banking put me onto them, and I've always paid £79pm and I'm in lads of credit. Last I looked was about three years ago, in COVID I think, and I was about 2k in credit. It may be less now as prices have gone up, but I'm assuming I'm still in credit given they have never upped my £79pm direct debit. I may be in loads of credit and get a ton of free miles out of it. Now that may pull me away from the superchargers. But I'm probably going to be filling up outside the house once a month on average. So I can't see it really being a big deal. But again thank you. I class myself as tech savvy, a bit of a nerd.,I'm the family member and friend that people used to bring their pcs and laptops to sort out, and the one the older family members come to when they need a new phone (usually Moto E is always the answer), but the swap to EV, or my journey so far, is a bit overwhelming. I like the idea of a one card for most chrarge points. I think ZapMap app covers a multitude of providers also, and it's probably my favourite out of all the EV charger apps I've played with. I did select to pay by card rather than bill. That's something I'll look at once I've got a charger installed etc.. I do like the fact than my incoming car can utilise the plug and auto play scheme, so in theory I shouldn't ever need to use the card or tap my phone. That is a really nice feature. Another thing I'll now need to watch some reviews on how it's working ATM. Cheers.

Why have Lidl switched from Pod Point ? Pod Point always worked and very easy to use. Always charged at Lidl Bridlington new installation not working. Also Pod Point we’re at a public car park Bridlington these have been replaced by Mer. Are pod point pulling out of public charging

Why is there a difference in price? A charge is a charge the only difference is time..

You should try visiting / living in Bridlington. There is only 1 x 50kW charger at Lidl (often "offline") or 1 x 60kW GP at Morrisons, THATS IT apart from a dozen or so 7-22kw charge points. How do they expect EV owners to visit the seaside for the day with so few options to charge up. Talk about charger and range anxiety! You have to travel 1hr to Hull / York, or 45 minutes to Scarborough for rapids!. Oh yes, nearly forgot, there are two rapids 50 mins away at MacDonalds Shiptonthorpe, lovely! Please convince me why owning an EV can work in a large and busy area like this, especially with 1000's of daily summer visitors. You should do a video maybe on not spot areas for charge points and how app only charge points can work with poor mobile signals! Brid has some of those too!

The best way to pay would be the same as when you go to Asda petrol station at 1am, you put your card in and put that pin in. Good old chip n pin. Cant go wrong.. Best for the older generation.

No use to me. Use my local Lidl quite regularly but my usual visit time is less than ten minutes. 😮

As an EV driver, I'm finding your commentary more and more disingenuous, of course it takes a couple of seconds to plug that's not representative of the whole charging experience. I charge a lot due to work and continually see drivers sitting in their cars whilst charging as I do. Some drivers are charging enroute and IMHO EV drivers accept this, but to suggest people have other things to tootle off and do whilst their cars are charging is infuriating to hear, especially your analogy about shopping and filling your car in less than 30 seconds.

I had enough of the Lidl charge app and found the Austrian charging company managing their chargers and billing and ordered a charging FOB card from them. Guess what, the FOB worked, however it considered me an Austrian on holiday and made of money, so found it perfectly alright to charge EUR 1.5 per kWh! I cut up the card when I got home. So I'm toiling with the app still. -and true, Lidl chargers are never occupied.

When carmakers stop selling cars outright and instead offer them as subscriptions they will tout it as a FEATURE. And some people (I wonder who) will salivate over this dystopian prospect. Skip a payment and the car will drive itself to the dealer and notify your bank at the same time. "Driver Assist" was just the begining.

The one at Lidle brighouse w yorks, used to work but i tried to get it to work under the new Lidle pump and it's total crap it pretends to work then fails! I went up the road to the shell garage that pump was just dead. I tried the evengi now called Genie point that pretended to work while it locked £30 on my bank account for 10 days! The two genie pumps in Elland do the same! But while still in Brighouse I called at the Tesco pump only 7kw one was charging a car but the other didn't work and just waisted another 15 minutes of my life! Total crap!! How the hell are we going all electric in 2030????

I thought the government had passed a legislation. Which said all public charge points had to have contactless payment as well.
@CW-om2qq2 ай бұрын
Apparently you can pay by contactless, but it costs more. Contactless itself is a fraud problem. Prefer to have some means of authentication (virtual PIN keypad) if necessary.

Can pay full price rapid charge 74p using Electroverse without anything else. Or use the Lidl plus and give up your data to get it for 62p - no different to anything else discounted in store. Accept it or lose out. Should still be cheaper though especially if probably shopping there too and they should build out more chargers for local people in excess parking bays that can’t charge at home for under 40p.

Just a few thoughts... I've used our local Lidl charger (Brighton Street, Hull) since getting my Dolphin in July without a problem. Until recently the chargers at Lidl were operated by Pod Point through the Pod Point app which you had to top up first, then it worked through your balance. So add say £30 to the app first, plug in to charge and it would halt when you disconnected or when it had used up your balance. In this sense the new Lidl app charging method is far better (and more in line with the competition). The price has also dropped - it was 65p per kwh. I had no problems in charging, getting around 47-48kwh charging in the real world. Also, just wondering if your ficticious date of birth could be causing an issue when it trys to pre authorise your card? Either way, as someone else commented, you can now use the Electroverse card / app with the Lidl chargers, so problem solved!!! (This was never an option with Pod Point). All in all I'm very happy with the changes. I agree that in this day and age there should be more than one charger tho!!!

😂 I cannot remember the last time I had a power cut, but for the record i have a UPS and a diesel generator should i ever need it, and yes, my truck can power my freezer and TV during a powet cut - if i ever have one. I can fill up in. 5 minutes, not hours, at a wide choice if places all within minutes of where I live, and i can keep going for almost double your 300 miles between 5 minute fill ups, not have to pay double the price like. EV drivers do if they have to charge away from home, and the cost of your EV far outweighs any potential savings on fuel. That's without the almost endless and still growing must of other issues associated with them so yes, I will and do enjoy my proper car very much indeed thank you.

I have one experience of electric car and it is bad the car was a 2 year old trade in.When we arrived with his new diesel car he said he was sick of his electric car and couldn’t wait to get rid of it.When set off for home with it took charge when it hit 50 miles range charge I charged it next I needed charge went to service and it wouldn’t charge at any of the charges so had .to push on next stop I had 6 miles left and it wouldn’t charge and their was a tech there working on a charger and couldn’t get my car to charge on any station so had to be recovered.After it went to the dealership and they said it was ok I will never drive electric again.

I'm also new to public charging, had a home charger so much easier, but I now have to use public charging. what I've been experiencing is chargers not working, too many apps and anything under 50 KW a waste of time for me also why so expensive, I thought the government are trying to make us use ev cars. I'm going to have to go back to petrol so much easier. Shame as I love the electric car it's just the UK isn't ready for them.
