I understand that sentiment; I felt the same about Elden Ring, because of the amount of bullshit they threw into the boss fights. But when I played Lies of P, despite having more trouble than almost any other game I've played, I really enjoyed it. Maybe I'm crazy (I'm autistic, possibly bipolar, probably borderline, and definitely a weirdo), but the fact this game pushed me to my limit so many times in what felt like a fair way, made me absolutely adore it. This game is insanely difficult. But I don't see a problem with that; as long as there are plenty of other games that are more accessible and enjoyable, then why not have some games that are hard as balls so masochists like myself can feel like they're actually accomplishing something meaningful in their lives? Even if it's only proving to themselves that they can improve and overcome challenges in a particular leisure activity? Also, FYI, you have the option to summon for all major boss fights (except for one optional fight). That's the easy mode, because regular enemies are almost embarrassingly easy to kill, and elite enemies are difficult but easily avoided. TLDR; there's nothing wrong with not liking these kind of games. Any loser that calls you a "casual" for not subjecting yourself to the learning curve is someone not worth talking to. But these games do appeal to certain types of people. And this game is so freaking good, in so many ways, that I am glad it is the way it is.

I think there's something you didn't fully take into account. The game *doesn't* require the perfect guard. Especially for the Archbishop. Dodging is equally viable. You have plenty of s and you're supposed to mix it up depending on what works for you.
@SuperJumpReviews
@SuperJumpReviews 8 ай бұрын
well I mean I did mention the dodge move. I just didn't mention it during the archbishop part. I've seen someone defeat the archbishop with just dodging so it is possible but for the average gamer its just not very easy. Knowing the perfect guard really does help. just my opinion. But yeah, I get what you mean.

@SuperJumpReviews the dodge is legit more forgiving than the parry all day. Blocking and then attacking, followed by running from red attacks will win every fight every time if you get your health back at the right times.

Soulsborne games are unforgiving. Lies of P is DEMANDING. You can't just rely on reaction time and pattern memorization; a few of the harder bosses require strategy as well. FromSoft bosses that require you to use critical thinking are largely gimmick fights; once you figure out the gimmick, the fight is barely engaging at all. But several lies of P bosses have mini-gimmicks in addition to challenging movesets, so you need to develop a counter-strategy to what seems to be unfairly difficult situations while also putting your normal soulslike skill set to work. While I don't think it's as hard as Bloodborne's DLC or Dark Souls 3's DLCs, I do believe it is easily harder than any of FromSoft's base games (apart from Elden Ring, but fuck the Fire Giant and fuck Malenia). This game kicked my ass six ways to Sunday. It pushed me to my limit in a way I haven't been since The Old Hunters. One boss killed me 35 times. Yet, I can only think of one or two boss attacks that felt unfair; everything else felt well balanced but, well, demanding. I just felt I didn't play well enough, so I stuck with it and persevered. This game is definitely not for everyone. And that's okay. I personally like the fact that it's so ridiculously difficult (for me; I'm not good at these games) that I felt the need to be at the top of my game to beat the bosses. I died a crap-ton, and I loved every minute of it. I'm also autistic, so that probably helped in me becoming obsessed with this game and sticking through to the end. This game has surpassed Dark Souls 3 as far as how much I enjoyed the single player experience, so it is my third favorite game of all time (behind Silent Hill 2 and Bloodborne). And if you absolutely hate it, that's totally cool; it's just a video game, after all. Edit: For the record, the Archbishop fight is one of my favorites in the game. Obviously, you hated it, so I'm not going to try to change your mind. I'm just saying it's not nearly as bad to other people as it is to you. That's not me trying to insult you or being an arrogant asshole; obviously everyone struggles with different things.

The archbishop fight didn't feel THAT bad, and I happen to be an average at best gamer. I managed to rely mostly on dodging and got through the first phase after a while. The second form was also fine once I fought its 'butt', since fighting that part is virtually the same as fighting the first phase. I personally find certain mini bosses and later bosses like the green monster to be more frustrating. As far as the health nerfs go, that barely did anything to the boss fights, if at all. The real notable change was adding hyper armor to three bar fable arts, and summons being tough enough to at least get through the first phase better. Waiting for the patch to make rising dodge the default ability as opposed to an unlockable skill. Also, thanks to a comment I read, one of the things that did help regarding the perfect guard is to actually remember it is a GUARD and not a parry. In other words, hold the button down longer as opposed to tapping it. I wondered why I managed getting those fluke perfect guards despite thinking I pressed the button a little early, and in all of those times I held the button down to block. Still requires timing, and enemies with fast combos still trouble me, but I got them a tad more often as a result of learning this.
@SuperJumpReviews

Yeah you’re right about holding down the guard. I was doing that the whole time but subconsciously not realizing I was holding it. I guess I was just in the zone. Then there were times when I would just tap the guard and would get destroyed haha. Then I realized I had to hold it down

Honestly I didn't think Arch Bishop was that hard. His first phase if you just learn the timings of his attacks he's incredibly predictable with parrying his attacks. And second phase, just face his "butt" (the first phase side). Because he mainly does the same attacks with slight alterations. That being said: yes, you HAVE to learn to perfect parry if you want to have a good time with the game. If you don't, it's going to be a struggle. My first playthrough I used Spectres and while I'm no elitist and would say my run is "invalid" because I used summons (as I believe anything that's in the game by default counts), I am now replaying for a bigger challenge without Spectres and it's surprising how much faster you learn without having a Spectre take all the aggro. I genuinely recommend not using them, as it means the boss is solely focused on you and means you have a better chance at learning their attacks. My most difficult boss was the Puppet Devouring Swamp Monster, on my first playthrough I genuinely had to quit for a while to just refresh my mind and go in with a different strategy. Now on my second playthrough I beat him 7th try on my own, with most attempts having me well within the second phase doing well. Game of the Year from me. It'll not earn it sadly because too many bozos will vote for Spider-Man 2 (which isn't a bad game by any stretch but context matters imo... Neowiz their FIRST outing as a Souls-like with this much quality, to the level of FromSoftware, compared to a sequel to a game with huge funding behind it that's mostly the same of what we already got)

You we're baited by the summons! I swear they put these in these games to "make things easier" but I can tell you, they hamper your learning process and make reliably understanding and predicting boss attacks nearly impossible. If you summon, you will likely hit a wall later in the game because you aren't truly learning the bosses, you're just learning to take advantage of opportunistic moments usually created by the extra damage or distractions of your summon. If you want the "enjoyment" that the fans of these type of games crave and that the game is designed for, you should stop summoning (although, some people just don't have that skill). The secret sauce that good souls-likes and even the masters at FROMSOFT know all too well is that very difficult but fair boss fights with a high skill ceiling lead to tremendous satisfaction when mastered, that you can't get from other video games. Personally I struggle with this game more that almost any other souls like I've played. There were times of frustration, but nothing compares to being able to walk in to a boss fight like Archbishop/King of Puppets/Laxasia/Manus/Nameless Puppet who used to wipe the floor with my ass, only to turn the tables and make them look like a bitch..........soooooooooooooooo addictive!!!!!
@SuperJumpReviews
@SuperJumpReviews 8 ай бұрын
Dude, I totally agree with you on this one. Summons are good but like you said it really does hamper the learning process. I don't think I truly started to appreciate the game until I defeated the archbishop. Out of all the bosses I killed up to that point, the archbishop was the most satisfying. Mainly because he was the one that wiped the floor with me the hardest up until that point.

Not every game is for everyone is what I always say. Games don't owe you anything (like easy modes etc...) even if you paid for them, they are a luxury anyway. I never let a game win over me personally, perseverance is almost always rewarded in video games and giving up just is not my style. Also, it's not based on the Disney film, it's based on "Le Avventure di Pinocchio", the original source.

The game has so much pitential and the devs are incredibly talented, but they had no idea what they wanted to do in this game. When it works, Lies of P works. When it fails because of piss-poor decisions by the devs, then it fails hard.

Arch bishop took me 2 tries. Parry really is not that hard once you know enemy movesets and that coming from someone who never played Sekiro and i never parry in souls games
