I felt like I could follow your advice and be a better person because of it. Making friends in new cities.......totally sucks. Hell, making friends as an adult PERIOD is difficult. Like, "Hey! We're both adults struggling to make our way in the world but, do you wanna hit up the swings with me?!" Don't take those childhood friends for granted. EVER. Also, KUDOS to the people who asked all those questions!! They were PERFECT!!

Okay, I AM EXACTLY THE SAME as JVN when he talked about adopting more cats when he’s grieving from the loss of a cat. I do the same thing, not because I want to replace my loved one but because I’m never done giving my love out, I still have an overwhelming amount of love to give, which makes grieving really really tough but being able to give my love to another kitty does help ease the pain. It does not mean that I miss my ghost kitty any less.
@gglydie42422 жыл бұрын
I am the same with my doggo's! My partner and I have always adopted dogs from shelters and when one of ours passes away, it is painfully sad, but it means there is now room in our home for another dog in need of a loving home. So yes, we go to shelters while we are grieving, but we are filling the cracks in our broken hearts with hope and newfound joy 🥰

I want to say that the advice for finding happiness and a single adult is great advice, even for a married person with a family. We should not only find join with the people in our lives, but with ourselves too. I have been married my entire adult life, I have 3 children who are almost out of the house. If I only found joy in them I would still be very alone. I do find great joy in caring for them and for my husband, but I find my personal joy in Photography, and theater and being an active member of the community that I live in. These are all so important to me and to my happiness! I strongly agree that finding joy in my Fur children is very important too! I love those beautiful little beasts!!

I'll be 30 this year, and finding you, your channel and your virtual presence, has been very reassuring to me. I just wanted you to know, even if this comment never reaches you. It feels good to put it out here and not just feel it, as someone struggling (and slaying through☺️) a lot of childhood and post adolescent trauma myself, in regards to poor one-sided biological bonds, that I don't have the luxury to break. You, make me happy. Thanks for that. 🤗

I can sense your stress when you talk about moving. The moving + being happy alone with yourself are overlapping skills. In my many cities, I have found that making plans and sticking to them - regardless of people flaking out - has helped so much. Exploring that event/park/museum on my own and getting familiar gives me something to talk about in small talk, and helps me know myself. And making friends takes time - people are busy and have full and difficult lives outside of you coming in.

I recommend keeping a gratitude journal to the person who asked about keeping positive! If you go to bed writing five things you’re grateful for, you go to bed feeling positive of those things. You can start the morning by writing 5 more things, and you start day of with gratitude! It sounds not fun or easy, but in doing it, I’ve noticed a change.
@isawhat87122 жыл бұрын
I second a gratitude journal! Although if possible get one with a gratitude prompt a day. Studies show that your brain benefits even more when you can write 2-3 sentences about a thing you're grateful for once a day rather than repeatedly writing 5 things in list format. Supposedly the 5 things list works in the beginning but then your brain gets used to it and the neural pathway development stalls around 2 months in.

Stopping at 11:58: I now have 11 cats! And I work professionally with 🐶🐶🐶! I’ve adopted 2 to take the place of one soulmate. Either littermates or that extra one who looks scared. I kept it at 10 for a long time. Because more than 10 would be weird, right? But in Austin just before the last couple of rounds of freezing temperatures, there was a little black and white kitty eating scraps around the neighborhood. Not on my watch! Borrowed a safe trap, got out a can of tuna, now she’s part of the family, purring on a cushion while there is ice outside. We may not need them but they need us! Carry-on, JVN.

Good way to make friends in a new city if you're into rpgs & tabletops is the visit the local comic shop (or their FB/website) & seeing if anyone's looking for players, or post to see if someone wants to join a game of your own (if you're brave). The best advice I can give *anyone* is being by yourself is always better than hanging with or staying in a toxic/dangerous situation.
