My question for 2LT Rothmeyer is if he knows anything about the process of going from a med services officer to a medical corps officer like becoming a Clinical Psychologist through the USUSH program or through HPSP?

“The overlap isn't huge. Being medical services doesn't directly give you a way into HPSP or USUSH. But it does leave useful opportunities significantly closer to you so that you don't have to work as hard to find those opportunities. The prime examples are: you will work closely with physicians who you might be able to shadow or who could potentially give you a letter of recommendation, you will get a very broad understanding of the apparatus around Army medicine that better equips you to speak intelligently about how you'll contribute to the army and the broader world as an army provider, you will be better prepared for the multitude of tasks (especially leadership related) that will fall on you as a future army provider, and you will also be relatively involved with medical training and discussions which will certainly help prepare you for some technical details related to being an army provider (this last one is certainly the least important in my opinion).”
