Wonderful and informative video. I spent a bit of time there outside of Manila last year and I fell in love with the people and the culture. Here in the west the people are cold and distant for the most part. But there in Philippines it's a polar opposite, some of the warmest and most loving people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and it was a very humbling experience.

She didn't go around much. Flax seeds are available in Middle Eastern stores in Manila, cheaper than the US. Chia seeds the same, although might cost more. Also, cost of living in Manila is NOT very low at all. It's actually very high considering the salaries. Also, you are paying for it by sitting in traffic for hours. North America is absurdly expensive but they're more of an exception. Plenty of places in Europe have comparable cost of living...

Sounds greedy to me, also look at Hawaii I don’t seem to see any problems going on there, also to point out on the “people” who has trouble claiming land there are actual videos on KZbin showing foreigners gratitude towards the Filipino community by doing a food drive, some even show there gratitude by buying some land to share with those who can’t afford any. Example would be my sister who’d claimed a piece of land somewhere on the southern part of Philippines for a family we’d met during our travels there.

300 to 600 USD will get you a fully furnished condo (middle class) at a nice area. If you want cheaper, places can go as low as 100 but those are either with roommates or just an "unsafe" apartment at bad location. Some residential houses are about the same range or cheaper, depending on where to decide to live. So don't let the 800 to 1000 rent (she mentioned) scare you. But yeah, you'd probably want at least four to five grand handy if you decide to try living there.

Nowadays, there are a lot of opportunities too in Business Process Outsourcing companies for foreigners speaking European languages i.e. German, French, Portuguese, etc.. The salaries could range from $24,000- $30,000 annually- this may not be a lot in the States but if you live in the Philippines and you have this salary, two third of it you could save for the future due to the low cost of living like there are decent condominiums that you could rent for $400- $600 monthly. I don't agree though that it's not safe and you cannot travel alone by yourself- locals or foreign tourists travel alone by themselves, there are pickpockets yes but are there no pickpockets in Europe, the States, and other countries? It's not like a local will pickpocket a foreigner because it's the holidays, they pickpocket because they are criminals (not because they are locals) but these are isolated incidents- it's not like someone will be pickpocketed before the public and the people don't care, it's not like that at all because people care. It's also not true that locals usually only earn $11,000 annually- it depends on what you do in life, some people earn that, some below that while some earn way above that and put into consideration the low cost of living. She mentioned the rent to be around $800- $1,000- I say if you look around, there are great options for half the price and these options are just walking distance to your work and if you live outside the business districts for example, you'll find even cheaper properties.

I would like to correct, what she really mean is in Philippine Peso. Apartment rental in the rate usually from 10k up to 25k in Pesos (City Rate). Higher than that will defend on the location, facility and the structure of the building. Are there no pickpockets in the USA? Why my friend who has been doing her daily walk in the park was also attacked in the US and was badly hurt? Why many school boys as young as 14 are gunning down innocent students? My friend was a victim of pick pocket in the US and the attacker is not a poor person like how you portray the poor people in the Philippines. My point here - the attacker in the US are not hungry people but are well fed and yet they can still do this kinds of crazy idea. She had a live in maid and it's true she live like a queen, lol. My salary as a bilingual customer service was PHP 80,000/month and my partner's salary was PHP 150,000/month as a bilingual customer service manager. All salaries were nett. Our condo rental was php 25,000 for a fully furnished studio at Ortigas. So you sir will have a comfortable life there with that income.

From what we know of the international schools in Manila, it's very realistic if not low. ISM if one of most coveted schools to be teaching at in SEA.

The international airport was terrible; no drinking fountains and the waiting area for arrivals was (hot/crowded) outdoors with squatters watching all across a fence or wall.

The philippines has been portrayed as a nation full of pickpockets, at least that is the impression one gets by watching this video and the other video where she talks about safety issues in the Philippines. Nothing can be farther from the truth. She has been pretty much holed up in the school where she worked, she said so herself, even during weekends where she also did some coaching. She has not really been immersed in Philippine life outside of her very peaceful school. She cant even cite one instance where she or somebody she knows who encountered or experience the said crime . Its just probably stories she heard from somebody. And it became so big to her. And also those who engage in pickpocketing do so not because they are poor. There are a lot of poor Filipinos who are content with what they have. There are also pickpokets in Canada and those people are not poor. I should know, because I lived there for a while.

Neptali, there is no way we can hide what was going on in the Philippines. We have problems with pickpockets, salisi gang, scamers, snatchers, budol-budol, carnapers and akyat bahay. It’s all over the news, KZbin’s . It’s an embarrassing truth that we can not cover up. And the root of the problem is poverty which I will not use to justify those crime. We need to eliminate corruption, we need to stop govt official from stealing for their own benefits, which is one of the reason for poverty in the Philippines.

Thank you for being honest about the Philippines, they're painfully true. Philippines is a small third world country populated by pickpockets, crooks, thieves and plunderers. You can encounter people who takes advantage of just anything if they have the opportunity to do so. But to me it is still one of the most beautiful countries on planet earth. Palawan is just one of those mystical places, there are more down south untouched by human civilization.

My advise for Foreigners who wants to live in the Philippines is that, don't bring the kind of living lifestyle you are used to when moving to the Philippines. If you have a limited retirement resources, live in the rural area, buy a small piece of land where you can do some farming hobby, believe me you will never worry about running out of money. Otherwise forget about moving there, because you will just end up going back to where you came from without a penny.

depends on what kind of job. back in 1989, as a sales manager w/ a college degree can get a PhP 25,000 basic pay per month in Makati, plus full health insurance coverage, company car, monthly gas allowance, car insurance, monthly sales representation. commissions. Around the same time, a bank cashier can earn Php 20,000/month, A bank teller (w/ a 4 year college degree) basic pay was Php 15,000/month.

Guys, remember: any interview is highly subjective. She may be right for some people. She may be wrong for some people. Like, nobody - even right - minded males - would dare to walk the streets of ANY major city at the dead of night, unless they REALLY have to. And so, though she mentioned how one should not walk alone, or at least without a male companion, at night in the Philippines, what she meant was at least in Metro Manila, which is THE majorly congested area of the country, where crimes occur - just like in your everyday major Western city. Same thing goes for pickpocketters. You just don't go around flashing your wallet/purse for everyone to easily see and snatch. You safely tuck it in your pocket or bag. You'd be careful because you're especially in a big city. The reason people get pickpocketted is because they've lacked common sense of not properly tucking away their wallets/purses. Maybe it does happen more so during the Christmas Season ..... but doesn't it everywhere?

Sorry, Hank. We didn't have a ton of b-roll on the Philippines. How long did you watch? Our interviews are very much based around information over entertainment as an alternative to reading someone answer these questions. Sorry this video fell short of your expectations.
