Towel heaters are great for drying. Not just a warm towel. They’re usually more efficient at ambient heating than blowing systems. Also, if your beds have legs, just buy some inexpensive bed risers (tall “feet”) that will give you more storage space underneath. Ikea makes great under bed, semi-wheeled, enclosed storage bins for under beds. Definitely need covers to keep the dust out. Too bad they didn’t install ceiling light/fans as they double the aircon efficiency and lower your bill!

As much as I can take on my backpack trips to the EU is synthetic "quick dry" clothing that can be washed in the bathroom sink before turning in and dried by morning on the towel heater. We need more of those on this side of the pond!

Towel warmers are also great for drying clothes from the washing machine if you need them in a hurry. I wish ours were usable year round, ours can only be used while we use the heating.

We had the same problem with the new oven, it’s just due to humidity in the coils. So increase the temperature slowly over time so that it can “dry up”, do so such that it doesn’t trip. After that it should be fine, save yourself the cost to engage an electrician.
@ExpatsEverywhere12 күн бұрын
Good call. Funny enough when the technician came (the equipment is new and under warranty), the power didn't go out. The very next time I used the oven with the owner present, it went out. They increased the power and we haven't had the issue in the half dozen time using the oven since. - Josh & Kalie

Congrats on the new place. I think the oven problem is related to the power contract. It works fine untill the heater and refregerator and all other things start working together at same time and turns it down. Try to turn off other strong things like the water heater and and it might solve the problem when using the oven. Or contract more power.😅

You guys should consider getting the beds that lift (they have strong springs and you lift your mattress - like a trunk of a car) and have storage underneath. We did that with our place and o use that big storage for luggage, Xmas stuff and extra pillows and blankets Also what was the large oval hole in your kitchen ceiling, we were curious
@ExpatsEverywhere12 күн бұрын
At the moment, we have our storage solutions solved. The owners bought the bed and we're not sure if we want to buy anything for this apartment like that. But good idea nonetheless. The large oval in our kitchen ceiling is a light! I guess we forgot to turn it on and show it because when we filmed the walk through there was so much light coming through the windows. - Josh & Kalie

Debra here. Can't believe we ran into you on the streets of Porto! My husband thought I was crazy! But it was like seeing an old friend. We are from Santa Monica, CA and seeing people in the public eye, on the hiking trail is not a strange occurrence for us and always give they their privacy and space. But I had to reach out and let you know we are big fans. You have been most helpful over the years. A little background on us...We started our search in summer of '22 and followed most of your vids on where we would want to purchase. Our first trip to Portugal was winter of '23 and found our new home in March of '23 with the help of our now dear friend realtor from House Hunters International. We purchased in Sesimbra, just one beach town away for Setubal. We are very happy there but decided that getting residency was to restrictive for us. This was our first trip to Porto and have really enjoyed! All our best, Debra and Bradley

Indeed. I found it odd that someone explained to me that in Austria and Germany, renters usually must purchase modular kitchen cabinets and take them from apartment to apartment if they move. The apartment looks quite nice. How far is it to your old neighbourhood? I'm not at all surprised to see the bidet in the full 'bath'room, that is where they usually are - and where the adults would normally be. Kalie, I'm curious about the Malo Clinic. I just had a look at their website and I'm thinking it would be a good idea to see someone. My teeth have been shifting the past couple of years (really notably, especially in the upper front teeth) and I'd love to find an affordable way to fix them. By any chance do you recall the cost for the initial consultation and roughly what it's costing you to go through the process? They don't have any prices listed. Obrigada ~
