Yes! As an RMIT Design ✨A✨L✨U✨M✨N✨I ✨ your experience seems pretty consistent with mine. It's funny because in creative fields pretty much all the skills can be learnt online, the biggest thing the course teaches you is the discipline to *actually* learn the stuff as well as how to work with deadlines. In our course they were very big on the fact that they're "teaching us to teach ourselves" how to do things, which is probably accurate. Also, I'm biased but my advice for people doing 3D is learn Cinema 4D and demand that the teacher let you use that instead of Maya. They won't be able to help you as much but the program is easier to learn and probably more applicable for the project application. There's so much online to help as well. Also, Cinema 4D has direct After Effects integration which makes things easier for video.

This is a cute video. I'm an RMIT animation alumni myself (graduated in 2012, I know, I'm old lol) and while I never became a pro animator, I've no regrets. I utilise a lot of the skill set I developed from those days in my day-job as a freelance video editor and in my spare time drawing comics. Best of luck with the rest of your time and hopefully you don't have a massive anxiety in the middle of producing your 3rd year thesis film like I did :^P

I wanna become an animator and I was wondering: do you already have to know how to draw before you go to an animation school, or do they just teach you there? My problem is that I can draw things I see perfectly, but when it comes to drawing things from memory or imagination, weeell... yeah... (I really need to learn anatomy...)
@leiiscribs6 ай бұрын
specifically for rmit, they dont teach you drawing fundamentals or other technical skills like that. imo you should at least have some understanding of anatomy, perspective, etc at a basic level. you dont have to be an expert at drawing to get in to rmit, but the more skilled you are the higher your chances would be into getting into an art school. especially schools that do portfolio reviews :p if you are a couple of years away from going to uni i suggest building your fundamentals now so you'll have an easier journey in uni. hope this helps ^^

Hi! What videos/resources would you recommend to learn animation? :D
@leiiscribs6 ай бұрын
this video by alen becker, it's like the top suggestion when you look for animation principles. even my teacher showed us clipd of this in class. its quick, precise and informative. there's a playlist version if you got monkey brain like me and don't want to watch this for 24 minutes :9 kzbin.info/www/bejne/q3XUm3yafpmVfJYsi=W7tKHeD9ZA5TbMYp as for resources, an easy and free program to start with if your not sure about animation is flip a clip. its very user friendly and it gives you an understanding of how much work is needed even for really simple animations. for apple products i know there are a good number of free animation programs but i used android for a long while so im only really familiar with flip a clip as a good animation option. if your getting more serious about animation and have an ipad, you could try toonsquid, which is like if procreate and adobe animate had a baby. unfortunately its not free but it is a very good program. hope this helps :D

@leiiscribs6 ай бұрын
i've joined a couple clubs and events and overall everyone is nice and friendly, imo the most important thing is to do your best and put yourself out there. not everyone is going to come up to you to ask how you are, so do your best to ask people how they are and who knows, you might meet someone worth knowing ^^ shoot for the moon, at least you'll land among the stars you know?
