Engle fridges never die - 12 volt and 24. I have a couple that are 35 years old. Better to have two fridges -you lose less air when you open one of them. Put all the stuff in plastic boxes then you don't lose the air in the box either. Very efficient. This also means when you supplies are low you can turn a fridge off. Equally good are the Samsung 255 litre Fridges that have been in many caravans on Australian rough dirt roads for 9 years that are still going well. They chew 39 watts all the time and have a 55 litre freezer in them. Two of those would be awesome - when you get low in food turn one off. If one breaks at least you have the other one. NOBODY goes without good refrigeration to live -at the money you have spent -nor should you.
@carolrichardi64672 ай бұрын
Hard to fix for sure on a boat, I sympathize I’ve been dealing with fridges issues since August. My kitchen is small and requires a 24 inch wide fridge. FYI, I love your channel it is such amazing quality.

The belt as a "fuse" is a very good feature! Glad to see they built it that way. Remember to actually take that shaft apart and loop a new belt over it later, so if you break a belt later you'll still have that backup.

@@Steve-qn8gn Same here. I was thinking a slip clutch instead. You'd want to have a dozen belts onboard in this case.
@LabRatJason2 ай бұрын
@@Maaniic Shear bolts are a pain in the ass to replace, because they shear at the interface between motor and pully. So you'd have to get a drill and an easy-out to remove the broken off section of the bolt. The way the engine is put together you can't access the back-side of where the belt pully is bolted on. In other words, with shear bolts, you need to be able to use a punch to knock out the remainder of the bolt, but you can't do that if it's the threaded part. Really, it would probably be best to go up a step in technology here. The belt pully should probably have a clutch as others here have said. But there is also a non-zero chance that a complex clutch mechanism fails and strands you, and belts are cheap.

I’ve grown up sailing with a family who is very hands on at fixing problems but oh boy am I blown away by the level of issues you are having with this HH boat. I’d never heard of this brand until you ordered your boat and I was so excited for such a beautiful and innovative cat. Sometimes the reality is just so disappointing. The boat is gorgeous and you are both beyond kind and patient with your retrained feedback but I am absolutely blown away with the level of issues you’re having. They seem to be constant and across every part of the boat. I totally understand that there will always be a few issues on an innovative new design and this is at a mind blowing level. On a really fundamental level I really do wonder if you can rely on this boat to keep you safe in dangerous conditions, you need to be able to rely on it. Then on top of things the issues with the warranty work was utterly egregious, damage to the boat by HH workers is just beyond belief. So far the only good thing I’ve seen of HH so far is that they can do an inspiring concept and have some pleasant staff.

Sailing has been and will always be a balance of stress and pleasure. There is no other way. I have sailed a lot with my father delivering boats along the west coast of the US. Admittedly the wind was usually predictable and stable so the conditions that you are in were seldom a problem. I am amazed at the amount of fishing tackle in the water. It is a serious concern to navigate through. I feel for you with all of the new boat problems, they are unfortunately going to happen more often these days because of the complexity of modern boats. Your boat is heavily loaded with technology and you will continue to have issues for a while longer. The trick is to keep moving forward and don’t let them drag you down. I would also like to say that you have handled the problems quite well. You have good skills and experience to keep correcting the situations as they arrive. I personally learned so much from my dad during these deliveries that I have become quite skilled at handling situations well. My father was a master at just about everything that could happen. A pretty good teacher but very hard on the crew, me. Your boat is such a wonderful piece of technology and I am truly amazed at how well it sails. It is also so incredibly beautiful to watch under sail. I really like the color scheme. Best Regards, Your Pal Al

You also may be over stocking your refrigerator/freezer. There should be a induction "full" line inside the bins. If you go past the fill line it would cause a airflow or the "air curtain" issue inside and it won't be able to perform a proper defrost cycle and cause ice to build up. If defrost is still not operating properly then check for bad fuses. Usually there is a dedicated fuse for the defrost

I don't think anyone reads these comments. But a fouled prop on a cat can usually be cleared with a knife lashed to the end of a boat hook from the dinghy along side. It's a touch method. You can trace the prop and shaft with the tip of the blade. I was doing this on a cat when the GoPro clip we just shot showed that the fishing line had already fallen off. So proof of concept, but wasn't actually needed. We were in very cold water so there wasn't any safe way to get into the water. (I had a drysuit, but if I put on enough insulating layers, there'd be so much air in it that I'd never be able to submerge. And re: the fridge. Sail Oceans a Polish sailing channel has a Keen 50. During a refit they lowered part of the galley floor a couple of inches so they could fit in a regular consumer home refrigerator. It was cheaper, larger and far more reliable and efficient than any custom boat fridge. After all if you are going to make a million of them, you're going to make sure they're reliable or they are all coming back. This is generally the case, whatever item is mass produced in the greatest numbers is almost always more reliable than a specialty (short run) or custom item. I learned from architects that all those amazing Sub Zero units in the kitchens of millionaires? They aren't efficient or reliable and the parts are often back ordered. But they look great. Of course on most boats there isn't room for a full height refrigerator.

Wera and Knipex make high-quality tools, and they, plus Wiha screwdrivers, occupy my own tool chest. I'm with Jason - always protect your nuts! (and screws & bolts)

We saw similar behaviour with activities off the south coast of England ... it felt like some of the local people just wanted to be awkward like your fishing vessel and just plain mess with us. No communication, no adherence to the NOTAMS we had set up, knowing how to abuse the COLREGs, just ... setting up potential collisions. Thank you for another update, it's a wonderful thing to be able to have a look into your world :-)

I can honestly tell that you will be so glad that you covered up so much. I am 60 years old, and when I tell people they just get a look of complete shock. I have been told I look barely 30. I am not a sun worshipper, and I cover up well when I go outside. My sis has gone through 3 + bouts of skin cancer and they finally switched from a speed boat to a speed pontoon boat that is covered. We are 4.5 years apart and people ask if she is my mom. My daughter's friends often ask her about her sister, she isn't sure if that is a compliment to me or an insult to her. My sis gets insulted when people mistake her for my mom.

I knew a lady that was a Surfer her entire life, and she is a lot older than you so people just didn't wear sun screen. She talked about how it aged her skin, and I asked her if she had to do it again, would she give up the surfing. She said "ABSOLUTELY not. It's better to live than worry constantly about your looks". Your sister lives, and has lived her life well. You should tell her that when people are shallow fools.

My group of friends ruined our skin---no spf when we were worshipping our tans in HS & college. Most important is kids protection for their later skin.

Hi kids, the challenges you face now are the stories you’ll tell later. So keep your optimism and joy in the moment and thanks for sharing the difficulties and realities of an adventurous life. Would it be a good idea to get a hand held spotlight for night journeys, spotting mooring buoys and (Persiodon forbid) search and rescue? Something that you can recharge and point where your looking not where Curiosity is pointing. Just an idea from a kitchen chair sailor…

Thank god you made it safely to the marina. I hope they figure out what happened and how to prevent it. One admonition: make sure you have a full set of PPE on board - for one, a better face mask to protect yourself from toxic fumes.

You cannot just go to sleep in the Pacific Ocean..no, you can end up capsized...don't follow..depends on the terrain and the month of travel..each travel is different.. stay safe, and keep your eye open..weather also changes anytime.

100% I would love to see all your tools and how you optimized them. What problems can you address mechanically and what is impossible. What is in between?

Try lightly coating okra with olive oil, then sprinkling on a little garlic powder and grill them. Works with eggplant as well.

Those Knipex tools are essential. Reduce your tool roll size to 10% of what you'd need without them.

Would be worthwhile putting several spare belts over the shaft so that you have more time before you have to split the shaft coupling. Those rope strippers on the shaft don't cope with weed very well!

I thought the same thing. I would have about 5 or 6 if they break that easily.
