I know John Green is kind of reserved in presenting his Christian faith yet I find it kind of interesting how he tackles such topics from a simple unbiased viewpoint, unshaken in his beliefs. Respect for you on that Mr. Green.

I love it. "I don't know" is the only honest answer and all speculation has to be qualified. If you take anything from this video, it must be that "I don't know" can be used to answer a question. If that's the truth, it is the correct answer and you should proudly say it.

In which ***** and John Green teach you about life on Earth. They won't be giving advice on how life should be lived, because this is a history series. Instead, they'll teach you about the earliest forms of life on Earth, and some of the ways that they developed into the types of life we know, love, and sometimes don't love so much (I'm looking at you here, opossums). You'll learn about prokaryotes, eukaryotes, panspermia, reproduction, a little about DNA, and even a thing or two about trees. Maybe. If you find what created energy you'll find what created life, because energy created matter as in that there would be no matter without ernergy. We all function by energy as well (our brains) and in every cell our mitchochondria, produces or works with energy. The big bang was a explosion of energy and the "God" that created our universe was this explosion of energy (or as some would like to say it was the proces he used to create our universe). That's why nuclear fission produces energy. Our body is just a vessel to contain our energy and when it dies our soul (our energy) goes back to form something else (this theory includes "heaven"and "reincarnation"). Now i need to copyright this theory, but you guys can have a go with this, i developped it when trying to figure out what God is and energy is the result, something that's in literally everything.

In undergrad my genetics professor made the point that RNA can replicate itself, RNA can mutate, any time DNA is used it has to be transcribed into RNA, RNA binds to other RNA molecules that are attached to amino acids, those amino acids are ordered based on the sequence in the original RNA molecule copied from DNA, those amino acids are then bound together to make the building blocks of cells. He said the best argument for the RNA world hypothesis is that we are still RNA organisms more than we are DNA organisms even 3.5 billion years later.

I finished watching this amazing video and when I scroll down the first thing I see is somebody mixing Science with God. Hey! If you think it is impossible for you to respect people who trust in research and tangible proof you should not be making comments about neither Bible nor God here. But don't troll others that doesn't share your way of thinking.

Hey I'm being polite. The bible presents a loving and caring God but just and who can't lie. Since he promise something that's what will be. If he promises wrath that's what will happen. If his people do what he says he promise love. That's it... Remember, religion is used to control masses. If you don't present a loving god who will punish you if you don't comply with what he says, how can you expect people to follow that specific belief?

Panspermia is a non-answer. Like god. Saying we came from an asteroid just moves the question a step back and begs the question, ok, and how did it develop on that asteroid/planet/comet/whatever?
@Alexaflohr10 жыл бұрын
It is, but it does open up the possibility that life can emerge in some other chemical setup than primordial Earth. If panspermia is true, then we're more free to experiment with a bunch of wacky situations from which living molecules may emerge. It's probably not that though. There is even less evidence to life starting (or even existing) beyond Earth than life starting here.
@DrQuak10 жыл бұрын
It isn't really though, as it is an umbrella for several theories, one of which is that some of the complex molecules, that became life, may have formed in the hard vacuum of space, or under the flux of cosmic rays.
@unvergebeneid10 жыл бұрын
Panspermia open up more time and space for the freak occurrence of molecules just randomly assembling themselves into a simple self-copying machine. Life showed up so quickly on earth that it's really hard to see how something like that happened in that short time span. Not that I'm really a panspermia advocate but I see its merits.
@flaviusclaudius751010 жыл бұрын
The thing that makes panspermia at all useful is that it challenges the assumption that the conditions on primordial Earth were suitable for the creation of life - it may not have been. It is often seen as a 'cop-out' answer, but it is important to examine one's assumptions.
@Grokford10 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say that god is a non-answer. If there is a god, in the traditional sense of the word i.e. all-powerful, omnipotent, omnipresent ect., than it takes no stretch of the imagination to think that such a being could create life. If there is a god then it would be far more likely that he created life because of the sheer complexity of life.

I do admit that panspermia would in fact be an awesome discovery! But the thing is if natural forces cannot create life on earth, then how can we expect them to be created else were? Theyve gone so far as to code the entire alphabet, the names of 46 researchers on the project, and a secret email address into the genome of their synthetic bacteria.

I like this format of crashcourse better, alternating between John and Hank. It gives the show a little more punctuation and makes it easier to follow and teach from.

Props for not just saying "Watson and Crick" but adding on Morris Wilkins and Rosalind Franklin. In high school I was told "Watson and Crick discovered the structure of dna" so many times that I never really committed to memory some of the other significant scientists who also studied dna.

I was raised as a Christian and held on as long as I could but Science actually answered my questions while religion just left me empty. Religion is quickly dying because it doesn't really help people make good decisions in modern life. Give it time and it will die. I can't wait.

I think it's a bit more complicated than that. Especially for Catholics since the Bible isn't the end all be all in that case.

The Bible (and preferably the new testament) is more a set of moral guidelines presented in figurative stories one can bounce ideas off of before acting, which also enforces the act of thinking before acting. It's not a literal manual on how things must be done or interpreted at all times for all things.

I hope no one starts arguing about science and religion. Oh wait. They already are! What the hell guys?! Who cares? Think what you want, but don't suppress other people's thoughts. If you just start up a debate, you're just wasting time. There WILL always be someone that will say otherwise. So be tolerant and don't start things that will end up with you being pissed off at words on a screen. If you want to argue, just do it somewhere else. This video is for learning, not for people to argue. No matter how much you work to change the status quo, someone will ALWAYS be there to say "No, you're wrong and I'm right." SO DONT WASTE YOUR TIME ARGUING ABOUT THIS!

Andrew Obejero exactly. if there is a God or isn't, it shouldn't really make a huge difference to our lives cos either way we are still on our own.

Rumi Ahmed When religions create laws that deny your rights or punish you based on their beliefs then it does affect your life. This is a common occurrence here in the US.
@rumiahmed14949 жыл бұрын
isn't the US like the most liberated country?
@MrRJPE9 жыл бұрын
Rumi Ahmed No. There are still extreme social stigmas about gender, sexuality, morality, education, and supernatural beliefs. Since the majority of the population are religious it's not surprising that many of the politicians are religious. Some then use this power to spread and promote their beliefs and even enforce them as laws. It was only just last month that homosexuals were allowed to marry in all 50 states. When that happened, 13 states still had laws banning same sex marriage. There are actually some states with laws prohibiting atheists from serving in public office. These are obviously not enforced because the government can not have a religious test, but it still shows you what the religious want the country to look like: a theocracy.
@rumiahmed14949 жыл бұрын
depends though. I mean there are a few religious people like that, that are extremely homophobic and love to throw their beliefs in others' faces, but there are other religious people as well as that. There are people that believe in what they want and don't preach it to the rest of the world. Also people that are religious, half the time its cos their family members are and they just follow on without thinking anything of it. Religion and culture is times mixed up and if you think about it, religious people who DO preach there believes to everyone else genually believe they are doing the right thing, its hard to judge someone from doing the wrong thing when they are doing it thinking they are doing good.
