I've been made redundant this month, like you taking time to reassess things, looking for new job in new year. On the plus side will be able to cycle when I want👍

Well Paul. I'm 80 new yrs eve. And still doing bits ofwork I've had my own business for 45yrs The last 30 restoration of real wood floors. I've thoroughly enjoyed it & still do.a little for friends & family Done many floors for 2 Dukes. There stately homes. Which has been an immense privilege. We had a caravan on seasonal pitch in Peak District for 15yrs. But my wife passed away 3yrs ago. Didn't enjoy it any more So bought a van & converted to Campervan. Which I now thoroughly enjoy. Joined camping club for singles & go all over country. And next yr France and Spain

People that deeply care about their work ethic, and the quality of work they do take one hell of an emotional hit when they are turned loose. It has happened to me, devastatingly so but the job I got later on I never would’ve gotten if it hadn’t happened so hang in there I’m 62 myself and I’m praying that I can hang on for three more years love your channel

Such trials of life are tough, Paul, especially when we age, as we are less resilient. Now you are getting over the shock, you, of all people, will grasp this as an opportunity. Working for others is always a challenge when you are an innovator. There are many, especially in local authorities, who just want to preserve their cosy existence and will resist change - something you know all about. I was fortunate to work with a highly innovative company that saw the value of positive change and didn’t have the word ‘no’ in their vocabulary. As you know, I retired at 58 when I was at my peak. - my accountant thought me mad. I did find it hard in the beginning, especially as the company didn’t collapse without me involved 😀 and my brain was refusing to slow down. Now, 15 years on, it was the best thing I ever did, as I can use my energy elsewhere. The more invested you are in a career the harder retirement can be. You still have more years of work in you but, unfortunately, there is only one boss who will fully respect and encourage what you are capable of - you…. I won’t wish you luck as you don’t need it 😀

Unfortunately for me. I had to finish work seven years ago. Long story I nearly died but recovered from pancreatitus jaundice. (gallbladder burst onto pancreas) but was left with suffering from M. E. (chronic fatigue). Keep plodding on Paul something will turn up and try to stay healthy 🚴🚴🚴

Retired just recently, probably lucky I had a safe and boring government job and could choose my time. I think you've got the get up and go attitude to make things happen. Cycling, good friends and hobbies help. All the best

Retired at 50. I was lucky that my pension was protected from the new changes which increased it to 60. Had a part time job too which then became my only job. Stopped that last year at 55. I’d be open to another part time but it would have to intrest me. Good luck looking, it seems to be a good time for employment unlike the 80s.

Worked a civil service job 34 years and mostly disliked it. It was certainly not my calling, but a thick skin and patience carried me through. I retired a bit early with a good pension. I tightened nuts, but not the ones you'd think of first!

I retired at 55 and was rather fortunate to qualify for early retirement and voluntary redundancy at the same time. I always said I wouldn’t work beyond the age of 55 😀 Been nine years since I escaped the rat race and I don’t regret it one bit. 👍

Sorry to hear that Paul. Sounds like a business in the area of coffee (roaster, trainer, equipment supplier) might be your thing. I’ve had a hell of a year with health. Made me decide that it’s a good idea to do retirement as early as possible. We all overestimate how much we need. Good luck.
