It was so shocking to know that one of our great teachers, especially expert in teaching mathematics to us in the Government Boys School in Gulmit, Hunza, passed away in the Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH), Karachi, on December 30, 2021. May God bless his soul with eternal peace and rest and confer patience to his immediate family members and all relatives.
Born in 1948 in Gulmmit, he received his primary level education from his hometown and pursued his middle level education (up to Grade 8) from the Government School, Baltit while residing in the house of late Ghulam Muhammad Beg of Hayderabad (a highly respectable, an educated personality of his time and a societal reformer well-known in the entire region).In the aftermath, he left for Karachi and studied up to his matriculation (secondary level education) With the course of time, during his employment as a competent teacher, he did advance in his education, studied and got his intermediate and bachelor’s level education.
Late Ustad Muhammad Ajayib was also a highly invaluable expett in the local history. He had a multilingual personality. Apart from his mother tongue as Wakhi, late Ustad Muhammad Ajayib was fluent in Burushaski, Urdu and Persian and had a functional knowledge of English. He had a deep knowledge of the society in hand in addition to his study of the available literatures in Persian and Urdu.
Besides, late Ustad Muhammad Ajayib was also a great political figure, especially chose the field in 1972 and remained proactive up to 1974 before getting employment as a school teacher. Even during and after his employment, he tried his level best to contribute his positive part in political domain to push the society towards a reformation.
In voluntary capacity, he also contributed significantly in social development field such as the women organization (Gulmit Center), gulmit Educational and Social Welfare Society, especially the Board of Governors of Al-Amyn Model School, Gulmit, Aga Khan Volunteer corp, Ismaili Local Council and many more. Currently, he was a true advisor of Gulmit Organization for Local Development (GOLD).
