Beautiful and touching to see so many lovely little places in the South slowly being emptied of people. There's lots of places like this in Sicily too. So beautiful, but just not sustainable in the modern age, no work, not enough people left to keep up a community. It really touches me! Thank you for taking us along!

There are quite a few abandoned towns throughout Italy. Some foreigners are buying property very cheap if they promise to renovate it. The hope is to someday have people move back in to these small villages.

Thank you so much for this very personal and intimate video showing the everyday life in southern Calabria. These (nearly) abondoned places can also be found further north - e.g. in central Umbria (earthquake region), Marche (Apennines) and southern Tuscany (e.g. the Tuffo cities). I totally agree with your Dad - these places are very special but they have a charm of its own. I like beeing there and as an old man I would also live there. I read there are a lot of abandoned villages in Italy, 6000 or so. Lack of facilities, I think they lacked basic facilities like running water and had to use wells even up until the late 20th C.
