Edit To see my most recent video on this stove after two winters of use, please go here. • Life in a Tiny House c... . I attempt to answer many of the questions I've received in that one.
A few minutes after getting my new wood stove hooked up, here's the first fire! Along with info on the installation and how I made my tiny house wood stove safe. I'm really enjoying the warm and (now) free heat in my house. I'm looking forward to how much less propane I will need as well as the decreased electrical use thanks to the fan that runs with my propane heater almost never coming on now. Yay for burning up dead trees and reducing the wildfire danger around the property, independence and self sufficiency, and the ability to relax and watch the flames through the glass.
*****************************************************************
If you are new to my channel and Fy Nyth in general, welcome! I'm Ariel. I live off grid (as in no physical connection to public utilities) in a tiny house on wheels in the mountains of western Wyoming. I've been living this lifestyle for the past three years now and love it! What will you find if you follow my channel and watch my videos?
Real life here. I try to show the good and the bad. The ups and the downs. What works, and what doesn't. The parts I love (most of it!), and the things that suck. Not just the showroom version of a tiny house, but everyday life in a tiny house. Not just the romantic idea of "homesteading" or off grid life, but the everyday details of this lifestyle. I split my own wood for heat, carry my water by hand, and attempt to grow as much of my own food as I can between the weather and wildlife here. I hope to help others learn from my mistakes and make life just a little easier for anyone else interested in pursuing a similar lifestyle.
I live in a somewhat harsh and cold climate, but enjoy the stunning sceanery and wildlife that I am surrounded by on a daily basis. You'll also see videos of of the nature and wildlife around my home. If you are interested in my photography or purchasing a photo, I'd love if you follow that over at Facebook.com/ArielCelestePhotography or ArielCelestePhotography.zenfolio.com!
For a bit of my background, as a child, I was fortunate enough to be able to spend much of my free time exploring and playing in the woods. Little has changed now that I'm older I suppose. I moved to a place with a bigger woods and still enjoy spending my time outside gardening, hiking, exploring, and photographing the natural world around me. As the eldest of seven children who grew up in a homeschooling family, I had the opportunity, not always appreciated at the time, to learn to do quite a bit of work. I've enjoyed a wide range of jobs, everything from greenhouses and flower arranging to wilderness therapy with teens, to milking cows. Mostly, I enjoy doing the kinds of things that I think provide a real service or value to others. Some of my other hobbies include backpacking, hosting people, cooking, preserving food, anything to do with nutrition, reading, journalling, and sitting around a fire and talking to my close friends.
Check out a few of the videos below to catch up on what goes on here!

I like the idea of the heat shield behind the stove, will also act as a radiator, very smart

Some sort of coiled copper pipe would be awesome. I'm sure all that radiant heat would warm a hot water tank pretty well.

Creosote is caused by incomplete combustion. Pine is fine to burn. Pitch pine is even nicer with snaps & crackles and spurts of flame. Creosote forms when chimney temperatures drop and the vapours can condense and plate out on the chimney. Neat house!

We have a small two bedroom house with a gas fireplace. I miss my mom's woodburning stove but I'm glad I still have the ability to light a fire when I feel like it. :) Nothing more homey than a fire for some reason. So comforting and cheery on a cold day.

For my cabin that we are starting in March I'm getting a cooking wood burning stove with a back boiler. I am a confirmed fan of them since I lived in a tiny cottage with one of those old fashioned open fire ranges that had 3 oven doors at the side and trivets you could cook on (but over an open fire you end up with soot everywhere so I prefer the enclosed stoves with the oven and hotplates. I have been loving your videos and showing them to everyone because your tiny house is like the one I have always had in my mind. Of course I don't need the wheels as it is miles from anywhere on my families property (my sister and I and our teenage sons being the only family left...my oldest son got a cottage and a couple of acres gifted to him before my parents died so he's not included ....zhat sounds bad but it's all ok!) Thanks for posting these wonderful videos and although I am not much of a gardener I'm going to have some raised beds and I want chickens and goats (they make good company for the horse who is my transport between my cabin and my sister's house Lol..thats just an excuse for not carrying bags of shopping from the Landrover at her house to my cabin!! And he's good company albeit a bit of a burglar as I haven't seen a door he cant open....I just had a mental picture of the horse and I sitting by the wood burning stove watching Movies on my laptop! Keep doing the videos they are brilliant. x

Adriel I would consider putting a clean out at the bend outside as you will get alot of suit and creosote falling down in this area and will choke off your stove if you find the smoke coming in the house this is your problem and clean your chimney once a month this cuts the risk of chimney fire to zero when the chimney pipe outside is not insulated the difference of temperature from the pipe to the outside temp causes flaking but frequent cleaning solves that and it takes no time to do once a month! I learned by experience!

Many years ago a friend of mine lived on a houseboat. She had a tiny little stove very much like that to help heat it in the cold weather. A plastic bin of wood lasted a long time. I spent some very cozy evenings visiting with her in front of that wood stove. In time the moorage became too expensive so she sold the houseboat and bought a used fifth wheel. There was no room in the trailer for a wood stove and she said she really missed it.

The problem with the tiny woodstove is it goes out every few hours so you have to get up in the middle of the night a few times to get it going if the stove is your only heat source., blizzards your running it full tilt.
