Amazing video Nico! I had been waiting for this one. I am glad you covered almost everything here. One thing that I wanted to ask. Is it like we can find fruits and vegetables and other grocery items cheaper in one district of Beijing than the other? Because many people have told me that you have to hunt the cheap places because otherwise groceries are pretty expensive, especially near the major universities. And I was also told that wudaokou is expensive but you said beer is cheap there so I don't know what to believe xD
@Nicofilms5 жыл бұрын
Thank you I'm pleased you found it helpful! To be honest I haven't really shopped for groceries in other districts only near where I live. Most fruit and vegetables near me are pretty reasonable especially if you shop in season. Everything is comparable though I am happy to spend money on these and cook as I enjoy that but a lot of the time people just eat out as you can get noodles for ¥10. Wudaokou is a student area so there might be some expensive parts but there are many student bars where you can get beer for pretty cheap. It all boils down to where you are from and what you are used to. Beijing is a capital city so it is of course more expensive, but I'm from the UK and London is so much more expensive then here. Do you know where you will be living when you come to Beijing?
@simranchawla65 жыл бұрын
@@Nicofilms I'd be living either in PKU dorms or in wudaokou from September this year. And I am from India, from the capital but we still get things really cheap here so I don't know how expensive it is going to be for me in Beijing. On top of that, I am vegetarian xD So, since I'd be doing a hell lot of cooking myself so grocery expense is a real worry for me.

How do you deal with the air quality variation? I here many people wear a mask. Great quality video I really enjoyed it.
@Nicofilms5 жыл бұрын
Hi Julie, yes many people wear masks on bad days but the pollution is not as bad as everyone thinks. You can see on your AQI on your phone if its bad and take precautions. It's a bit like weather some days are bad and some are not. I actually feel it is better here in Beijing than when I lived in Nanjing last year. We also have an air filter in our house which keeps the air clean.
@comradestrawberry18765 жыл бұрын
The trick is 3 letters: N95 :p N95 is an industrial standard mask grade made by 3M that can filter 80nm+ non-oil based pollutants at 95% efficiency, and it's very cheap as well. Honestly though, these years (after 2012-ish) the pollutions aren't that bad. Maybe a few bad days in the winter.

@Nicofilms5 жыл бұрын
It really depends on where you are from originally to compare it to. I am from the UK and it is far cheaper in comparison only the rent is more expensive but if I lived in London then Beijing would be cheaper for rent. I also share with my boyfriend so rent/bills/food etc would essentially be half as we share. We are still able to save money but we also have two incomes coming in which makes it easier. I know lots of people who don't live with a partner though in shared housing which are saving just fine. It also depends on what sort of social life you have. If you only eat western food and drink craft beer then chances are you wouldn't save much.
