Are you up for the challenge??? Keep track of everything you spend in a week you could be in for a surprise! I felt like we didn't spend much but then when you add it all up I was a bit shocked.

This is in Hong Kong. Excluding vacations, parents/relatives spendings, health insurance because these vary widely from one person to another. Monthly expenses for 2 living in self-own flat and adopting a dog (just paying for all expenses, not living together) is about US$2876. I would say dog expenses is abt US$120/mo or less.

When we lived in Nanjing it was much cheaper too but we had also just got back from traveling and were in debt so were a lot more careful with our money. What on earth am I doing still here in the UK!! That's insane that the total cost for you both doesn't even come close to the cost of just my rent (that I pay for on my own).. Cost of living in the UK (sth London) is way way too high 😞... As soon as this ridiculousness is over, I'm definitely going to be relocating, it's too unbalanced. Thank you so much for your video, really helped 👏🏻

We used to live in Nottingham and the rent was much cheaper than here but everything else was way more expensive. I feel if you were living in London then it would be so high. We can live pretty comfortably here like you saw in the video we aren't trying to be frugal but also we are not huge spenders and so we can still save as well. Good luck, I hope you can relocate soon!

Nihao! Your prices are very accurate and very similar to my costs in Changzhou, near Nanjing. I was very surprised at your rent I expected Beijing to be much higher. Mine was 1800 a month for a furnished 2 bedroom at about 75 meters in an older building. The local food is super cheap. Breakfast is usually dumplings (6 rmb), steamed buns (3 rmb) or egg & chicken wraps for 10 rmb. Dinners were usually at the local fast food cafeteria, a meat, a vegetable, rice and water for about 20 rmb. Laowei meals were Western prices at 100-200 without a bunch of drinks. My scooter was the best thing I bought there. Super convenient and easy to get around on. Just be careful walking because you don't hear them coming. They are fun and surprisingly quick. I hope you are enjoying your stay. It is a great place and the people were very nice. Xi xi,

Great video. I spent a total of 13,500 last month with rent and everything. This is in Beijing with me having my own apartment that is about the same price as yours. I am very thrifty though and could certainly be considered a penny pincher (every penny counts! 😄). I also don’t live in the center of the city so food and such is prob a bit cheaper. It is very very easy for that number to go up with alcohol and western food and such. Keep making great videos 🙂

So total per week is around 3,375 yuan. So you are each spending less per person. I don’t cook at all though so that’s prob part of it. And not splitting rent. Oh well, I love it here and save enough to be quite content 😌
@Nicofilms
@Nicofilms 4 жыл бұрын
Sounds about right then. I think the rent is pretty pricy here and like you say if you have a meal out and some drinks that is easily about ¥500 for 2 people. I don't think we are very frugal but we also don't spend like crazy. If we didn't have to pay for my physio and we weren't learning Chinese then we would only really spend money on food. Me too! I can live a decent life and save where as I felt the whole of my 20's were spent scrimping so now I can live a better life. Thanks for sharing your spends I think it is really interesting when you really think about it all.

This summer I am going to move back to Beijing and start to work in Sanyuanqiao area, if everything goes well, no large COVID outbreak again. I am wandering what is the WeChat housing group? How could I find such a descent place like what you have? all the apartments I am looking at are rather expensive.

Beijing is more expensive than Stockholm in Sweden. I have lived in both, be careful people. I thought China would be cheap before I moved there but I ended up spending 20k rmb/month just on rent/food/alcohol and I didn't own a car or buy any clothes, I think I lived pretty frugally compared to in Sweden......but I mostly cooked western food or ate western food in restaurants which is EXPENSIVE! I tried to eat Chinese food but didn't like it unfortunately.

That really depends on what you do that day and how expensive your tastes are. If you were to get a taxi across town, get a bowl of noodles and go to a museum it would be about ¥100 but if you wanted to eat at a more Western restaurant then the price would be a lot more.
