I don’t know if you have done this video or talked about this before, but what is it like being black in Cairo or Egypt in general. Also what resources did you use to learn Arabic and what dialect(s) do you use?

It’s a bit weird in Egypt tbh. I haven’t experienced racism in Egypt where people call me a slave or the n word. The only thing I’ve experienced is people making racist jokes without them knowing that it’s actually racist. After I try to explain that they shouldn’t make jokes like that some are convinced while others aren’t and they think it’s an innocent joke. It’s obvious that those people don’t know what racism actually is so it’s a matter of education. Egyptians aren’t inherently racist and love foreigners generally speaking regardless of where they’re from. I’ve received a lot of love and hospitality since moving here. My black friends from the U.K., America, Nigeria etc. have also said the same. In saying that, you can still find a minority who are racists especially towards darker skinned people and from my experience, I haven’t met any of them (racists) thankfully. I didn’t take any lessons in Egyptian Arabic because it’s pretty easy to pick up and understand. For the Modern Standard Arabic I take private lessons because it’s a lot harder. I was very inconsistent but I’ve started again and so far so good.

If you can speak Arabic then maybe but foreigners don’t normally work in those settings. You normally find them working as teachers and if you’re American you can definitely get a job as a teacher.
