You guys were right by my house! I love mi colonia San Antonio. Yep, that is my fruteria. You are so right about the real small-town vibe in the little neighborhoods. San Miguel is busy and full of tourists but the real Mexico/traditional life is all around the centro and you can have it!

A REALLY NICE special little video! Every time you let us see the real Mexico/ people you hit a home run. For me, this is what I enjoy seeing more than anything else. Life is all about relationships. Some are longtime relationships and other are brief encounters. Thank you for everyone today from the owner of the restuarant, the woman you traded a Coke for something she had, to the artist that gave his view of the town in 2 sentences. All were special and meaningful!

guys, you are doing a better videos everyday, sometimes I feel I'm looking a BBC or National Geographic specials. keep it up. I'm 50 years old and I grew up in Monterrey on the 70's and 80's, watching this video you brought me beautiful memories of my younger years, those tienditas y abarrotes were part of our daily lives. it was tienditas around our schools were we used to hang around after class, a tiendita practically across the street or around the corner of our houses or parks were we used to play soccer or baseball. after school when we were ready to eat lunch in our house I used to cross the street where my neighbor had a tiendita and have our cokes and bimbo with the lunch. usually they used to give you credit so every time we need anything like sodas or snacks or soap, etc. we used to go to those tienditas and get what we needed it, our moms on payday used to pay the debts where they used to keep the purchases we made in a notebook and a page withe the credits were noted by family name. when I say "we" I mean most of our neighbors used to used this kind of credit with just to say "me lo apunta" (write it down) because our parents always pay it once a week. thank you to bring me back my memories.
@armandochapa97435 жыл бұрын
adding more to those days. back in the 80's our neighborhoods used to be self-police(ing) very rare they used to call the police for little things. when we used to have visits from uncles, compadres or neighbors to dinner, our parents used to send us to buy a case of beer from the tienditas, we were 13,14 or 15 years old but they used to sell us the beer or cigarretes for our parents or older brothers. if we go to another tiendita farther down, they used to call our houses to confirm that the beer or cigarretes were for them, simple as that, they never sell you just to make a quick buck. and it was not illegal to sell a minor beer or cigarretes as long they know you parents and make sure that those "vices" were for our parents.

This is why San Miguel de Allende, in the Central Highlands of Mexico, has repeatedly been voted the best city in the world: it's not just the fact that it is the "Florence of the Americas", a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the cultural capital of the Americas, or the amazing beauty, architecture, colours, history, heritage, culture, music, arts, writers' community, literary festival, music festival, markets, restaurants, food, diversity, vibrancy, vitality, aliveness, or cultural richness of this small city - it's all of that and more, combined with the best part of all: which is the tranquil, safe, friendly, welcoming and warm, small town feel. To my knowledge, there is no place like it in the world. San Miguel is pure magic. Not even my beloved Florence can match it. San Miguel, I would say, is in a league of its own. Maybe nearby Guanajuato, its sister city, can match its charm - I don't know, since I haven't been there yet - but San Miguel, is simply amazing.
