La Torre del Oro was part of the old defensive city walls. In the other side of the river existed another one La Torre de la Plata (silver tower) it were used to block the river against raiders/invaders. Actually, during the muslim era we had a couple of viking visits. Not very friendly ones.

Haha I had them waxed and tinted. Don't worry they only look like this pre-shower and scrub. I'm not blessed with seeable eyebrows like you Spanish folk :P
