Simple, Thailand is #1. I've been to 60 countries so far and many of the countries multiple times, Thailand being one of them. I have also lived in Europe, South-America and the US, and the place for us to retire (early) in a couple of years will be Thailand. My wife being Thai, from Chiang Mai, obviously made our choice so much easier. We'll slow travel around SE Asia and Europe for several years until settling down to Chiang Mai, though spending smoky season anywhere south of Hua Hin is in the plan as well. WE ❤♥THAILAND, no better place in the world. Can't wait for your house building series! Love your talks!

I don't speak Thai, although I grew up eating Thai food as I lived at the border of Thailand and Malaysia. I always feel home when I am in Thailand. I don't know how to describe it but it is just comfortable and homey

Thailand has been developing very fast too. Can’t wait to see what BKK looks like in 5 years, if Thailand can fix the air quality issue and make BKK walkable/bike friendly, it’d be 1000x

Hello, Flora & P'Note! Thank you so much for another interesting and fun video! Since I first discovered your episode on being child-free when it has just been uploaded for a day, I have been thinking of both of you and have been watching your videos in this channel, even though I haven't watched you main channel before. Now, I've watched all of your videos in this channel and want to say that I am SO GRATEFUL to both of you! 😊❤😄 Both of you are so genuine, and I love the deep understanding and respect you share between each other. It makes me feel like I am listening to a meaningful conversation of someone I have known for a long time. As a Chinese Thai living in Chengdu who used to live in Malaysia and the US, I find many of your stories and perspectives very relatable - all the thoughts on long-term relationships, cultural differences, alternative definition of wealth, and the arts of content creation. It seems to me that Flora has tried so many different careers. I'd guess that P'Note has tried several careers as well. Could you do a video on career exploration and how you would define whether a job is good or bad for you? I am planning to change to another career several years after this, once I've completed my scholarship bond. I'd love to learn from both of you how you navigate career changes during different periods of your life. I'm also curious if you have any advice to someone like me who is looking forward to switching to a new job but isn't in a position where that is affordable yet. Like--- What can we do to make our daily life more fulfilling when our job itself doesn't fulfill us?

I am so enjoying your pod casts. I subscribed to your channel after Patty Doyle introduced you guys during the pandemic when I was locked down in Canada and missing Thailand. Now that I am retired I am spending much more time here. My son lives and works in Bangkok so I am testing out Bangkok this winter. Am thinking that a move here is in the cards in the next few years.

I am in Chiang Mai and usually stay on north Thailand ( beautiful mountains) for 2-3 month before I move to other country. I have to admit I never be in Bangkok only in airport. Try to void big cities….

Ah, to be young😊, I remember when being young decisions were so much easier to make as you do not think in terms of TIME😊. I wanted so much to move to Thailand a few years ago. The traffic was really scary to me. The place I would choose to have lived would be Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai. I have friends all over Thailand. When I was very young I was married to a Thai/Chinese man. When married to him we did not go to Thailand. I can tell you I would get headaches from hearing all Thai being spoken 😂. He loved playing cards and cockfights. Down south in Louisiana \Mississippi many non Thais do this. We even raised rosters/chickens!! As much as I love animals I cannot believe I got into that🙀. I too learned all the bad words. He taught me to cook. We remained kind to one another after divorce as we have a daughter. He has since died. Thank you for sharing. 🙏

Laos might not be comfortable if you have to go to the hospital. I would retire in Thailand because the medical system is much better even than in Silicon Valley where I’m living now. I really miss Thailand.

Hi Flora & Note me and my wife Noi have been Loving your videos We have been married for over 19 years now and we Bought a ready built house in Ang Sila Chon Buri province about 18 years ago And we both love Spending five weeks every year for the last 18 years in Thailand I’m from the UK and Noi is from Thailand Noi is the Owner of the house and the land of course because she is Thai and I am a lifetime manager of the house and land we went to a Lawyer and made his agreement in writing so if we did get divorced I would always be a Manager of the house and land I don’t think this will ever happen. I’m 55 and she’s 56 and we still love each other We both live And work in the UK Noi has Dual nationality she has two passports and we both looking forward to retiring in Thailand We both hope you two keep loving each other And keep loving living your lives in Thailand And keep loving traveling the world together All the best from Richard and Noi XX

Hi Flora. I love your videos. I found out that you used to be a flight attendant. I used to be like you since I used to have no fear of flying. But that all changed when I was on a flight that crashed. I survived that crash, but it left me with a fear of flying. Have you ever felt scared during a flight?

We bought a condo in Bangkok after my wife and I retired because we traveled to Thailand 2-3 times yearly. We stay about one month for every trip. We spend a lot of money renting from Airbnb. This is the reason why we decided to buy a condo. But after we bought our condo and finished build-in furniture, that's when the pedantic started! It was tough to have a condo, but I can't go there! It's worse when I watch my security camera, see my condo from my balcony, and see empty roads with no traffic! We did visit Thailand about two years later! Here is my experience buying our condo. It was easy since I am Thai. I want to have my wife as a co-owner, but the process is complicated. The condo management suggested using only my name, which is the easiest and fastest! I can add my wife as a co-owner later on. I heard that buying land is different. You must be a Thai to purchase land, as you already have experience. Our opinion on Thailand: My wife and I love Thai food and fruits, but we don't like hot and humid weather! We will stay longer during winter but 30 days at maximum! We think that when we don't need to take care of our dad in the future, we probably stay longer than 30 days! Thanks for sharing your experience with Thailand, and see you on your next podcast!

I just moved to CM from wellington nz, and I am SO overwhelmed. Spending a lot of time at home and taking small steps at independence, my partner is less overwhelmed so he deals w grab nd other stuff, but I know I have to learn myself. I want to learn conversational thai but overwhelmed w choices.

That’s a tough one because we move around so much that we can’t really compare how bad the pollution is. We avoid the North during smokey season (Jan-Mar) but we know it also gets bad in Bangkok too. We love Samui because generally the air quality is pretty good there.

3-5000$ a month is more than in our expencive Norway. Whilst we have much higher wages than in Thailand, people still struggle here. How can people in Thailand afford the daily life with this prices?

Hi. It always depends on with where you compare to, but I feel Thailand is every year more expensive. Cheap compare to Montréal , but Vietnam seems cheaper. I will know in 1 month.

Agree with @Hammocktravel above. At the end is money. I don't find much difference living in city centers of Canada, US, Hong Kong, Thailakd, Malaysia, Japan, Korea, Europe. For the KZbin demographics who needs to live their life now then all of the countries are just as expensive eating out at a normal restaurants right down to McDonald's, KFCs. Eating out in Europe is often more expensive if I have to start doing conversions too. Sometimes I think we don't have enough representations from opposite view point too. Cost wise, of course aside from buying a home in major city center, I found average cost for living the life I live in my home country cost not so different. But hey, I can only afford Pier 21 food only even in my home country so what can I say.

HI guys, Glad to see you are back in "The Kingdom"! I dont know why you would ever want to go back to Canada, especially now. With the new gov't in the US starting soon & our horrible choices for next years federal election, i'd say settle in & start building your place in Samui. You're really missing nothing here in Canada. Everyone is so on edge & opinionated about the gov't of both countries, find your happiness elsewhere! Wish I was there in Thailand too!

Note do you have a place in Pai? Your mom's old house? You guys aren't interested in hanging out in Pai? We just were there hippy Central no shoes required, no matter how hot the back top 555. Not sure it is for us. Pai is overcrowded for us. I think your land plot in Samui is good. It's on level land. Mine is on a very steep hill. As for Thai families selling land without permission... it happens all the time. We were in Koh Chang last month a Thai American told us his neighbor built a guest house 20 meters onto his land. A friend of ours uncle sold his land when he was on an overseas work assignment for 2 years. When he got back there were two houses on his land. Still not resolved 3 years later. It happens everywhere on vacant land. Russians and Chinese are buying property all over Samui and Phuket. I have no idea what schemes they are using to do that. We have two monstrosity homes going up next to us in Samui, one Russian and one Chinese. The Chinese guy told me he decided to use my private road for construction. We had to hire a security guard to block the construction trucks. So make sure someone is checking on your lot.
